In the forests of Pegasus, hanging from a branch unassuming, was a chrysalis, Ruby and stark red against the quiet greens. within it lie a creature sleeping, sleeping, sleeping.

Until now, atleast.

The bat inside woke with a stir, squirming within the damp and dark confinement of his chrysalis, squeaking, and then promptly choking on the fluids within.

After a bit of wild wing flapping, and the disturbance of literally every other animal in the vicinity, the chrysalis fell from the treebranch, crashing to the forest floor with a loud CRRRACK

The bat inside tumbles out, thrown to the floor in a sea of broken gem fragments and fluid, slid out of his chrysalis broken remains.

He blinked his eyes open, making confused whimpers at all the light, staring at the wreckage.

He suddenly became very aware of how close he was to grievous injury, and also how much his body currently ached. he look at his wings, yelping at the sight of torn flesh. he felt bruised and battered and now one of his wings was practically drenched in blood, pain shooting up his arm from the various places shards of ruby and crumbs of dirt and rocks now nestled horribly in his skin.

he let out a shriek, more like a wailing sob if anything, not having the words to ask for help.

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!"

Action. Thought. "Speech."

Forgraves had been spending the last hour within the forest, gathering plants he desperately needed to refill on, when he heard a loud crash from further within.

The fox moved as fast as he could trying oh so desperately not to drop anything, flinching hard and gasping in fright when he heard the sound of a child wailing, looking around frantically until he eventually stopped at the sight of the broken ruby chrysalis, and the poor little bat child currently wailing and bleeding on the floor.

he rushed forward, cooing softly, the boy looking up teary eyed at him, desperate for any attention. "hey! hey, hey, it's okay, you're alright! we'll get you fixed up, okay? everything's okay!" he said, trying to be comforting but he also sounded completely terrified.

luckily the child hadn't developed the ability to tell the difference yet, though, so his dignity was spared.

carefully, trying not to hurt the kid and flinching at the whines when fluffy paws pressed into sore bones, he picked up the bat and nestled him in the basket, deciding that plant-picking can wait for now.
