They thought about their decision for a couple days after the visit to the wishing stone. They spent most of the time wandering. It wasn't exactly deliberation- they knew this was exactly what they wanted to do, that it seemed like the only option- but, simply put, they were afraid. It was the primal sort of fear, the fear of the dark and the night. Assistant had never been afraid of the dark, but they were afraid of this. It was hard to get over the fact that this would be the
They finished their wandering. They grabbed the skull. They steeled their resolve, and they returned to Polaris. They visited the wishing stone once more- not to wish for anything, but to say thank you, and goodbye.
And then. The Spire.
The air around it radiated with magic like heat off a fire. This was enough to make the fur along their spine raise involuntarily. They had no idea what would happen, and they had no way of knowing what the result of this would be, except a new life. They desperately hoped that they wouldn't turn out
And then they walked into the spire, together.

The crackle of magic became a burn. A lightning flash, a sear of incandescent fire that lashed out, latched onto Assistant's magic, and pulled. It was quick, at least: a merciful searing away of everything the feline had once been: flesh and magic and bone, gone in a flare of crackling blue.
Would anyone remember them? Would anyone remember the one who had once borne the Cerussite that they had carried into the Spire, now that they were gone?
And truthfully, did it matter? They had lived their lives; wasn't it only important to live for oneself, to experience life to the fullest?
There was no one here to answer that; just the hiss and pop of fading magic, and the strange scraping sound as--suddenly--Cerussite and Hematite began to pull together, and to fuse.
The stone that was spat from the Spire moments later, as if rejected, took root. It would have been beautiful even without the Spire's touch: streaks of black striped with white, glistening as though polished. But the Spire had imbued it with threads of rainbow turquoise in startling flashes of color. Already, this chrysalis was growing. In one cycle's time, a new life would be born from the one just torn away.
A new child will hatch on the seventh of June. This child will be a hybrid of Assistant and Researcher, with a gemstone that is a combination of Hematite, Cerussite and the Spire's rainbow turquoise. The gemstone will be located on an extremity, where the Cerussite will not pose much threat. The child will bear the Electricity element.
Notably, this child will bear two heads, with two distinct personalities. These will be played by the roleplayers of the now-deceased Assistant and Researcher. They may choose to cooperate in designing the child, or ask a GM to randomize the design.
