The voice, it called to her. Spoke to her. It was feminine soft, but firm. Gentle but with authority. The little one in the green cocoon listened to this voice, embraced it, cradled it. She would do as it asked. Live... She was already living. Her heartbeat a steady rhythm within the shell. She had grown as well... That task was down.
Emerge... Emerge and learn about the world around you
Her eyes snapped open. Green and within darkness. Darkness was no good, she needed the light that the outside promised. With a kick she was freed of her shell and out to the outside world she fell. The little one landed on her back, green eyes staring up at the great white shape before her. It... It was amazing. Through her body she could feel the breezes, could feel life. It was all around her! It rushed over her senses and into her nose and through her ears. Everything was alive! It was beautiful!
A tear came to the little one's eye as she beheld the majesty of the plant life. How had she been so lucky as to have been born in this wonderful place? What did it all mean? Subconsciously she delved into her magic and felt the plants. Felt them breathing, felt them living. They were like her just bigger, older, perhaps intelligent in their own way. The one above her... She could hardly sense it at all. It was impassive and mysterious. Why could she not sense it any longer? Was it because she had hatched and no longer had a link to it? The darkness while scary was also not bad... it helped you connect with... Who was this? This impassive white tree that towered above the others? The one who had spoken to her in her womb.
"Mother...?" Her first word and it seemed right. This one had helped her to hatch. She was magic and mysterious and loving and a teacher... She was everything. "Mother!" The little mewl from the happy kit was excited this time, less questioning as she bolted forward and nuzzled her head into its white base.
This one, did it see through the plants? With its infinite knowledge it probably had helped them all to grow and emerge as well... Did she make everything grow and emerge? Yes. She had to. It made perfect sense.
"Krakaw!" The sound. It was deep, croaky, and new to her newborn ears. The little one stirred from the mushroom but she was unafraid. The Mother wouldn't hurt her. The Mother was kind. What the child could not see was a large raven perched high up in the branches of a tree preening its feathers. The raven could not see her and as it finished preening let out another throaty call, "Krak Krak!" Then it was gone but not before sending a feather fluttering to the ground.
The dark feather had a purple-ish sheen to it as it landed at the feline's paws. What did it mean? Was The Mother pleased for the cat showing her love? Yes... Yes that was it! Now that she was emerged into the world the All Mother couldn't speak directly to her. She had to use signs and this was a sign. "Thank-you, Mother." The feline crouched over the feather and studied it. Quit entranced by its beauty.

It was the sound of a raven's throaty cry that caused the gembound to open her eyes. For a moment, she thought she imagined it, until it came again. She slowly shifted, sluggish, almost tired, and so did the jade prison that trapped her.
Was she in danger? Perhaps the croaking bird outside was looking to attack her.
Out. Out. I have to get out. Escape. Emerge. Push.
The words rang through her mind, and she subconsciously lifted her paws and began to push against the stone walls around her. But nothing. No matter how hard she pushed, nothing happened - not even the slightest crack in the jade walls.
Claustrophobic. Trapped. Stuck. Help. Help.
She continued pushing; the green chrysalis rocking a little.

She could sense life inside. It wanted to emerge too! Excited the young kitten trotted up to the cocoon and sat her feather down so that she could touch the surface. Whatever was inside, she wanted to greet it. Perhaps that was why she had hatched first, to help this one. "Come out! Come out so you can Emerge and Learn." She said softly to the creature within. This one needed to learn about the Mother of All as well.
The tiny feline turned to the Monarch and on impulse lifted her head and let out a yowl, "All Mother! We need your help... just like you helped me... She pleaded with the giant mushroom. The feline lowered her head and closed her eyes, praying to the giant thing.

A voice. It spoke of a mother and of emergence. It didn't seem to help much, as the kit was still stuck inside the rock.
She shifted, at length, and pushed again - but there was something wrong. A surge of pain jolted down her forelegs and she drew her paws away. Do the caves have miscarriages, stones that lie around the caves but will never hatch?

"I understand, All Mother... It must Emerge on its own..." She bowed her head, completely understanding of Her way. "If it does not Emerge it will return to you and be one." It all made so much sense. Either way would be a happy ending, so she would wait.

Maybe she wasn't ready. Was there something missing? She couldn't see through this blackness. Surely she mustn't be incomplete, if her eyes are open. There was silence, stillness for a moment, before the kitten began flailing inside the chrysalis.
She was silent again. There was light in her prison when she went still. She turned to it, and saw a crack in the wall. It was too bright to see whatever was outside, but she knew what she had to do in order to make her escape from the jade chrysalis.
She put her paws against the crack, and pushed.
Seconds later the kitten came tumbling out, shards of glinting jade strewn across the mossy cave floor. While most gembounds didn't look too bad once emerging, this one looked awful and it was due to the long hair hanging off her body.
It was wet. Dripping. Completely soaked through. The kit shivered in instinct, green eyes searching around until her gaze fell on a pair of grey paws. Slowly, she looked up at the stranger which had been praying in front of her prison.

The kitten watched as the other creature plopped right out of the cocoon in a soggy heap with dripping fur that clung in a messy rag. Oh... That poor thing! But still, she hadn't sunk back into the blackness so that was something! It showed that... she was strong! And ready for life! Yeah! That was it! "Hello! Welcome!" Her voice was an excited mewl. The little feline crouched down and began to groom the other one's fur. "I'm glad that you Emerged! The All Mother is proud of you!" Well, the little kitten didn't know for sure but she was certain that she was. Why else would she allow her to hatch?
As she groomed the little one her green eyes landed upon the feather. Oh! How had she forgotten about it? "I'm sorry, I have to-- present... from the All Mother!" With that she trotted over to the black feather and picked it up in her maw then she walked back over to the newborn and sat down in front of her with the feather proudly clasped in her mouth. For a moment she just sat with it happily before dropping it on the ground with one paw over it protectively. This was her special present... She was never going to lose it.

The other cat seemed happy, mewing. Welcoming her. She slowly lifted her head a little more, peering at the forest they had emerged into. The kit slowly began to sit up, feeling a little better once she'd been groomed.
She watched the other kit grab a feather, tilting her head - but she decided to ignore it for now. "Who is mother?" squeaked the newborn. She looked around a little more before noticing the giant white mushroom, blinking.

"I prayed to Mother and she helped you to Emerge. Mother also gave me this as a gift for hatching," Here she pointed down with a paw to the dark feather. "I think... it might mean something." The kitten said thoughtfully as she peered down at the feather. Since they no longer were in the blackness they could speak directly with Mother so she had to send signs. "But I don't know what yet..."

The ball of fluff watched the other cat for a long moment. The words didn't mean much to her, for she simply just didn't understand them. She scooted a little closer with pricked ears to peer at the feather.
"... Did you ask mother?"" the kitten mewed curiously. She didn't touch the feather because it was someone else's property, instead she lifted her paw to lick at her toes thoughtfully. "...An identity?"
