Bentley considered, tail sweeping the rug excitedly. "-No!" he barked, at last. "If you make it you are giving the knowledge! So if you know something. You can write it! Like this!" He tried to gesture, his paw coming down on the chalkboard way too hard, flipping it. He gave a woof of surprise, hastening to upright it and replace it between his forelegs. "-Sorry!"
"But yes! It is a letter! The sounds are letters! And then if you do this-!"
He lifted the chalk in his teeth, and--tail still wagging rapidly--began to studiously apply it to the board. It gently scraped out an A, an M, Y, E, and L. SAMYEL. Close enough, maybe-? He then spit out the chalk, and pointed his nose at the board, lips curled into a doggish smile. "Those are the letters--S for sss! A for ahhh! M for mmmm! Y for yyy! E for ehhh and L for llll! Those are the letter-sounds! Together they say, Samyel! That is a word! A lot of letters together with all their sounds make a word! They're like the words we say, but they are here!"
He then turned, nodding toward the book he'd had propped open. "When there are lots of them, and you can sound them out, it is like hearing someone talk! But by reading off of paper!"
Judging by the sheer excitement in every word, reading was Bentley's passion. He looked to Samael afterward, eyes lit up with joy, hoping the fairy grub would understand.
