While once the chrysalis of yellow sphene may have once been a cozy resting place for the little life within, it had grown uncomfortably small even for this tiny creature.
He tried to wriggle within the confines of the space, but he could barely move. He needed out.
Though he could barely move, he could move enough. Enough to throw himself forward at the chrysalis.
CRACK!
And so he tumbled out of the chrysalis. Freedom!
Another being, recently hatched, paused at the sound of the nearby crack. They were not surprised, for destruction was everywhere, they knew innately. Still, they turned their head towards the sound. They were curious what was causing destruction this time.
The lamb tilted their head as they gazed upon a broken chrysalis, a little lizard tumbling out. Every being caused destruction, they realized, as even the method in which beings entered the world was innately destructive.
One could not exist without destruction.
They moved towards the lizard, staring at intently with their one functioning eye. Yet they did not act, only watched. There was something about their revelation that drew them towards the lizard.
There was a brief moment where the fresh gembound relished in his newfound freedom. Then the little lizard registered a noise, the sound of hooves, though he knew not what hooves were until he saw them.
Hooves, he realized, as he gazed upon them, could so easily step upon him. This was a paralyzing realization, that brought with it a great deal of fear.
Instincts told him to curl up, to make himself a smaller target in the face of danger, but there was a clarity that overcome those instincts, that just because he was a smaller target didn't make him less of a target.
There had to be a way to make himself not a target... Or at least cease the approach of this hooved being.
While he reached inside for an idea initially, what he stumbled upon was his magic. He tugged upon it.
He pulled on his internal fire, but it went wrong, horribly wrong, suddenly he was hissing and there was a burning inside, and it hurt, it was a mistake, and he was even more scared.
Finally, when the pain passed enough to even act, he gave into his instincts and just curled up, holding his tail in his mouth.
