The dragon shouldered his way slowly through the strange crystals of Tunnel L. This place did not suit him, and already, he disliked it. Had his irritation with the overbearing morality of his parents not driven him to leave--to take a break from them, if not to depart forever--he would not be here; but he was seeking someplace more suited to his preferred aesthetic.
The problem was, Vastator did not yet know what that aesthetic was. Had he happened upon the beautiful rot of Canis, he might have declared it "home" and set to fighting for ownership of the entirety of the swamp at once. As it was, he had passed through only a large cave of labyrinthine crystals and now this--a tunnel of much the same.
He paused, oversized form (yet still gangly with awkward youth) twisting as he regarded, with a baleful flash of glowing eyes, some of the ancient drawings scratched into the surface of the stones. He could not make out their purpose, nor their subject, so wind-worn were they by time; and so a sneer of frustrated impatience took him and he mentally declared them
But this place?
If everywhere else in the caves were this... shining, and purple, he might have to change his mind about that. It was impossible for his fibrous, dark body to hide in this mystical locale.
It had taken a while for Rayet to re-emerge from its chrysalis. While now, it definitely felt less horrifically nauseous, the weakness still seeped into its bones.
Why it had turned away from the dusty room of Orion, it couldn't be quite sure, but it was here now, limping through the tunnel. Had it realized its time was ticking, that it only had so long to make its mark on these caves if no twist of fate saved it?
Probably not. At least, not yet.
But the invisible cloud settling through the tunnel at Vastator's command was more than enough for Wolf-Rayet to devolve into a sneezing fit. Its weakened immune system didn't exactly help its case either.
@Vastator
His head snapped back around, many eyes blinking at the sound of sneezing back behind him. The cloud he'd left--let to settle all around, one that would do little more than irritate--had sounded an alarm, it would seem.
Finding the crystals pressed too closely for his wings to comfortably spread, Vastator instead cursed his luck as he waddled overly fast back through the cave. And--
The young dragon paused, drawing himself up. After another moment of staring (head tilting this way and that) he could still not recognize what this other creature was. Was it Lesser? Greater?
@Wolf-Rayet
Luckily, the culpeo seemed to manage to halt the sneezing, but it was too late to escape unnoticed. Snorting one last time to clear its snout, it'd paw at its face, before noticing the big set of acid-green eyes jeering down on it.
It freezes, eyes locked on Vastator's. A rough squeak of acknowledgement precedes an attempt to respond to the dragon-beast's comment. "I don't think so?" comes its meek chirp, not exactly how to respond to the question. It doesn't think it's food? Should it be food? If it is food, why does it feel so icky? Would the ickiness be passed on to whatever ate it?
Though maybe trying not to be food was a more important issue then deliberating on what makes good food.
@Vastator
Vastator's head flung back in annoyance.
His head swung back down, eyes narrowing as they looked the culpeo over.
@Wolf-rayet
It yips, scampering back a few feet at Vastator's shouting. "Not food! Not food!" it decides with far more conviction this time.
Shaking itself off again, Rayet looks back up at the much larger dragon. "I am... I'm Wolf-Rayet," is its answer, not quite sure how else to answer. "It was dusty. Like in the star cave. Tickles my nose, and then that happens."
@Vastator
Something about the other Gembound's fear pleases him: placates him, even as it draws a malicious eye. Yes. He likes that. He wants more of that: of others cowering from him. Whatever it was, it had somewhat soothed his frustration here.
Vastator drew himself up higher, a huff of sulfurous breath rushing from his nostrils.
He wasn't sure if he liked it or not. It was-... extreme.
@Wolf-Rayet
It's hard enough for Rayet to read the dragon's face, the twists of bark-like scales hiding any meaning. But he at least seemed to agree that it wasn't on the menu.
"Sneeze. Yes, sneeze," it agrees, having not exactly known the words to put the sensation together before. Vastator was right - the culpeo had had no one to guide it.
"King?" it parrots. Well, looking up and down Vastator, it could definitely see the power. Definitely a lot more than Wolf-Rayet's own sickly sway to its walk. "I've been alone... there was this cat there when I hatched, and she gave me gifts... but she left just as quickly. I made a den, in the star cave... but I needed to get out. Tired of seeing the same thing." Its words a bit rickety, from both a lack of use and the sickness taking hold of it. "Is... is there something the King needs?"
@Vastator
He listened with all the air of a dictator currently benevolent (but dictators ever changed).
From a practical standpoint? Vastator wavered a beat before adding:
Honestly, he really had no idea what that meant, bar the vaguest ideas of power and worship at his feet. But damned if it didn't sound appealing.
@Wolf-Rayet
Even so, Wolf-Rayet wasn't exactly thinking about forcing a king to bow to it. It was still learning itself, even if it was adult in body. Mismatched eyes stare up at Vastator as he looms over it.
"Food. Boredom. Felt cooped up," it agrees, nodding. Maybe Rayet was his first subject, the way it went along with Vastator's words. It didn't mind, since it meant it at least wasn't getting eaten.
As it listens, it thinks. The culpeo would have really loved to see the 'crystal cave' Vastator was from, but protection is alluring. "Can do that. Just have to avoid the eyes," it says. The 'eyes' weren't something specific, just that feeling of being watched it had felt moving through Canis. It did not know what Order was, but it could feel its gaze.
Maybe food would be somewhere else than there...
