He hadn't, exactly, been trying to bring a gemstone back to life.

Ember had, instead, been working his forge: cleaning it up a bit, bringing in fresh materials he'd been gathering, and overall focusing on various tasks he assigned himself to keep busy. He wanted to get back to smithing, to enchanting what he made, too. But he'd been sleeping, mostly, lazing the days away, unable to help himself when basking in warm sun. More often than not, he wasn't here. He'd spent time in Monoceros, or even take a few days to soak up the rays in Leo.

Heat was nice.

He'd had this sort of thought in mind when he'd picked up the sharp chunk of Obsidian. It wasn't all that large, but its flat shine had interested him, so he'd bundled it in with the other abandoned bits of gemstone that he'd found and brought it back under the mental tickbox of "jewelry materials."

Maybe it could be shaped, polished, and fitted into the pommel of a sword. Or maybe it could be formed into the focal piece of a ring or necklace. He'd been turning it over in one almost-thumbed, clawed hand, and then felt a bit of regret that it couldn't be more. Just a little piece of rock: not something that would come to life. Not something like another GembOh. The spark had come so unexpectedly: a flicker of magicka from he to the rock, and "...Oh no," he breathed, eyes widening.

Not that it was a bad thing he'd accidentally just granted life to what he'd assumed would be a necklace, and not a child.

But... he hadn't planned for this, that's all.

"I gotta find Dad-!" Either dad would do... anyone who'd know more about how to handle this than he would. He'd only ever raised one child. He absolutely still did not feel prepared for another.

He ensured it was safely tucked away, hidden from prying eyes, and then took wing: flailing and flapping away in a panic, even as the obsidian began to fuse to the rock behind him.
