'Cause I'm having a good time

Mocha had heard a rumor. He was easily swayed, both through the trusting nature of his youth and his experience in the caves. He had yet to be steered wrong, and so he followed others faithfully, wandering into this cave and that one. This time was a place called Gemini, filled with shiny crystals that stretched his mirrored image into weird shapes, with a seemingly endless ceiling. It made him wonder what it would be like to fly.

But that wasn't why he was here. It would be cool, yes, but Mocha did not wish for the unattainable. He was young, and his mind was always running off towards the next thought with little consideration for the last one. Today's idea was treasure. Treasure made good gifts, he had decided, and if nothing else, Mocha was a collector of friends.

"Hello Rift!" He chirped, staring up into the alcove he was told to wait in. "Do you give gifts?" He called into the distance, having to sit to be able to look up high enough to see the shimmering he was told to look out for. He knew it did not always drop things, but when it did, they were special. Well, everything was special to the hybrid. Things, gembound, lessers... They all had something! Would the Rift have something for him?

It was not uncommon to find Sair here, visiting the esoteric Rift and awaiting its daily decision. Not that she was here daily, given how busy she was running about in other caves. There was always something to find, something to research, or someone to meet. She hadn't thought that meeting others would prove such an important part of learning about the caves, but given the knowledge many of them held, she was quickly proven wrong. She still had yet to meet the master she had been told about, come to think of it.

"Oh, hello there." Someone was here today. She supposed it couldn't be helped, there were bound to be others that found interest in the gifts that the Rift had to offer. "Are you looking for it to drop something too? Are you a collector, or a researcher?" She walked closer, coming to settle beside the little one to wait. Her voice was gentle, in case the other would be nervous in such a small space. Were they still young, or just small? It was hard to tell sometimes, especially if they were more than a cycle or two old.

"Speaking." Thinking. Doing.

The Rift remained quiet. Not silent; it held a soft hum, as always, the shimmer of its colors a promise. But that promise was not for today.

It was not the Rift who answered, but instead something else. Someone else, given that the stranger did not hesitate to make themself known. "Hi!" He returned the greeting as he always did, with the biggest, brightest, strangest smile known to the caves. Well, Diem did give them a run for that prize, but that's what made them both awesome! "Treasures make good gifts!" He told the horse of his earlier thoughts, not at all hiding his interest in their mismatched legs. Another hybrid! Oh, but he knew this one already, didn't he?

"Sair, right?! Is Trill with you?!" He remembered the horse from the games. He was still finding confetti everywhere to this day, despite how much time he spent underwater. Thankfully the alcove was just by a waterfall, so Mocha's skin was happy as could be for a while, and he had water nearby if he needed it. "Nori is close, too! He doesn't like to go far." As if on cue, the little lizard (now armoured, thanks to Nemean) popped his head out from a gap between two crystals.

The two seemed to recognize each other in the same moment, familiar strangers from a recent event. "You remember right!" She confirmed, glad to have been a memorable challenger. "I heard that you won the battle section with your lizard! Mocha and Nori, right? An impressive win against a difficult opponent." She congratulated him with a cheery smile, nodding towards the sleepy-looking lizard nearby. "Trill likes to wander, but she's never gone long." She paused, pensively staring into the shimmering rift before continuing. "She was getting a snack, I think." She guessed, considering the emotions coming through their link. "Oh, but I'm getting ahead of myself! Treasures for gifts? Who are they for?" Maybe if she helped look, given the rift's lack of response, the little... dog-thing? Would let her hindsight their findings before leaving? It was better than nothing.

"Thank you!" Mocha accepted the praise wholeheartedly, waddling over to offer Nori some much deserved affection in turn. "Nori did all the work! Didn't you? And now he's got something to keep him safe while I'm swimming!" He spoke half to Sair and half to his familiar, allowing the lizard to perch as usual on his back before walking back over. He nodded at her explanation for Trill, and let the subject change without complaint.

"Friends! Everyone! New friends, old friends. I like to see them smile." He explained as if it was obvious, as if it was the only possible thing that one could ever do with treasure. Mocha's definition of treasure was a little different than Sair's, but neither of them knew that yet. "What do you do with it?" He questioned, hoping for some insight into the whole 'researcher' thing.
