Cardan followed slowly behind her pawsteps. But as they padded down the dark hallways, the echoes in his ears began to get louder. The beats he heard prior came back at him. But louder this time. Echoes of thumping pounded in his ears. Yet he tried his best to hide his whimpers.

Cardan seemed to have calmed down when he heard the coughing and spitting up of his.. hatchling friend. Eyes blinked slowly at her. Cautiously as if he was asking if she was alright. A dry swallow of his throat.

All the sounds embedded into his mind. Nearly clawing, if sounds could attack, he certainly felt like they were. And he didn't understand why! There he stood, hind leg favored waiting for his friend to stop hacking up her water so they could move forward.

The heartbeats came softly, the sense expanding outward and pinging more of them over a few seconds' time.

Nearby, maybe fifty yards away, a soft, slow thud that likely belonged to a Cave Deer was paused by the water's edge. Drinking?

Farther on, higher, a number of smaller heartbeats echoed from the tunnel ceiling. Bats, perhaps, but whether the dangerous variety or not wasn't clear as yet.

A few similarly-sized creatures were huddled in the foliage of bushes farther on, along the tunnel wall: rabbits of some kind? And scattered around, few and tiny, were the heartbeats of Red Mice and Molemice in their underground burrows.

She lowered herself to the ground, moving to shift beside Cardan, her fur barely brushing against his, though she didn't seem to notice it very much, her mind on other things. Right now, her eyes were on the creatures in front of them, specifically the deer. They were still small and young, but she thought that, by working together, they might be able to do it. And if they couldn't? Well it wouldn't be such a big deal either. The deer would run off and they could reconvene.

Glancing over at him, she gently pushed into his shoulder to get his attention before pointing with her nose to the deer at the water's edge. I'm down if you are. I'm sure we can do it. And I can cook us up something delicious afterwards. She smiled warmly as she whispered to him, her curled tail waving over her back, happy and excited.

The interest popped in as soon as he saw the larger creature at the waters. A few options were upon him, a larger prey and a few small ones.. No idea how to even kill them. How to take something larger than himself down. Not to mention he is so much slower.

A push made him turn his head gently towards the female. It turns out she already made a decision! It felt gutwrenching to him. While she was excited for food, he was worried about the damages those hooves could cause.. A dry swallow.

"Uhm.. okay.. How?"

Something he wasn't certain of. His instinct wasn't as sharp as others. Cardan knows he can't run fast, so he hasn't even tried larger prey yet. His voice but a whisper.

She smiled warmly at him, cocking her head to the side for a moment as she thought about it. Well, if we come at it from two different ways, work together to keep it dizzy. I'm sure we can do it. She was hopeful and gentle in her urging, truly believing that they could do it if they worked together. She didn't want this to turn into a privation for them, and wanted both of them to come out on top. It just meant they would have to work together.

She nodded slightly as she pointed with her nose to one side and then the other. I can go over there, and you can hide there. If you want, you can send it my way, attack its back end and I'll keep it from running. She turned to look at him. And if we work together, we should be able to keep nipping at its heels, keep it from turning on one of us. At least she hoped so.

@Cardan

The answer was simple enough. To chase it, wear it down. Working together would be nice. He nodded, purple eyes following the locations she pointed out. The brown wolf figured he could hide well. So long as he could keep his bad leg hidden. Maybe not even running on it would be better.

"Okay.." Though the prey might outrun him. He'd like to try it. Hunger could creep upwards towards him.

Gently he crept his way over towards the spot she pointed out. He'd try, but he didn't feel comfortable doing it. Like it wouldn't work. Cardan wouldn't doubt her though.

She nodded her head slightly, a warm smile on her face before she turned to head to the area she designated for herself as well. She would glance over at the creature they were hunting, taking a deep breath as she steadied herself. She really hoped this was quick and easy. She was a carnivore yes, she loved to hunt and to eat meat, but that didn't mean she wanted to make the creature feel more pain than needed, and she hated the idea of having to desecrate it. She just wanted this to be as swift as possible.

She put herself into position and waited, hoping that the boy was able to do his job, just like she hoped she could do hers. They could work together, she believed in them, togther.
