He'd meet Rajani's eyes, clearly trying to think himself. "Hmmm... I'm not sure how to explain it..." and that was the problem. There wasn't really any measure of time, beyond the dimming and brightening of the cave lights. And that was often irregular, and in some caves the difference was difficult to tell.
But it was the best Izote had, beyond the internal clock that Rajani hadn't quite gotten in touch with. "Well, you see the ceiling? This cave usually stays dim overall, but in all caves they go between brighter and darker. Some more obvious than others. A bunch of those light-to-dark-to-lights make a cycle. Probably."
I'm doing a horrible job. Sorry little guy.
@Rajani
He can tell from the look on Rajani's face that he is thinking. What those thoughts are, whether simply storing of thoughts or a Man, this guy sucks at explaining, Izote couldn't tell. But there's no point in fretting over the cub's opinion.
But then Rajani changes the topic of the conversation, from just life to square on him. The inostrancevia blinks for a moment. "Oh, me?" He wasn't exactly the most interesting of folks - another loner who did wish for some company, but really hadn't made the move to rectify that. "Most of the time, yeah. It's quiet. Sometimes I head out elsewhere too - but I don't exactly have many to talk to."
Well, the amount of people he has had a chat with, including Rajani, is small enough to count on one paw...
But that's my own damn fault.
