Tap, tap, tap! went the sound of gem on gem, the littlest of them pushing with her skull until finally something gave. She was the last to emerge; the slowest, too, languidly worming her muzzle through the opening and huffing her first breath of air. And she was supposed to do more of that? Grimacing minuscule teeth, the little hybrid pulled back and clawed at the shards, tugging them into the drying chrysalis.
With an unceremonious flop, she'd squirmed her way to the floor. A defeated, tired sigh slowly breathed out of her as she eyed either sibling. What is this..? Baring her teeth again, the child lurched herself to her feet and started to shake off the residue of birth, fur spiking with how violently she rattled herself.
Better. The last bit was a single shake of her head and an insistent wiping down of her snout, her gaze uneasily lingering on the Shapers before them. Who were they? Who is she? So many things, and the child kept her ears flat, uncertain and damn near ready to bolt at the next sudden movement.

"EYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!" came the first, crowing voice.
The Shaper present in the barracks at that moment--like all Shapers, essentially a black-furred fox-monster with glowing purple eyes--threw his arms wide in welcome. "YOU'RE FINALLY F-" (cough) "-FINALLY AWAKE! Good to see you. Cool. Okay. Uhh--HEY GUYS, GET IN HERE!"
The Shaper strode past the three new hatches, setting the mugs he'd been carrying onto a nearby countertop carved straight from the stone. Then he paced over, rolling his shoulders and hiking up the old camo pants he wore, tugging upwards on a workman's belt. "You kids got names yet?" he asked, grinning widely, far too many long, sharp teeth visible.
Behind him, two more Shapers trotted in, and had much the same reaction as the first.
"EYYYY!"
"Oh, no way, they HATCHED?! Shit, I thought we were just gonna have giant furniture in here for-"
"LANGUAGE, jeez! -Hey, you guys want some beers? I mean, welcome to the world! -But you want some beers?"
A couple more Shapers piled in, and soon there was a small crowd of them: cheerful fox-monster surrogate parents, grinning expectantly as they offered their newly hatched adult monster children alcohol.
@Cernunnos @Reid @Waker (I'm not sure if you guys have a posting order, sorry!)
Curiousity startled her even more. Fur lifting as she raised herself higher, Reid stared back at Cerunnos, then again to the beings that were already in the room—
Larger than her and loud, the Shaper moved past while Reid dropped her body, gaze flicking between every one of them. Language? ... Talking. Things clicked into place like she'd started to wake up, some distant look in her eye sharpening while she fixed her stance. They certainly were excited. Because of them? And does she have a name? Overwhelmed by all this newness, Reid's voice started before halting, waiting, frowning. What did her name sound like? Something like "Reid?" like 'read'ing a book, maybe, if she knew what that was.
Reid's tail flicked to and fro, that excitement simultaneously overwhelming yet welcoming. "I... want beers." Whatever a beers was, they were excited to give some to her, her curiosity winning over and chasing out any bit of fear left in her. "What's a beers?"
She could've asked that first, but damn, she was two seconds old. Everything was new. Of course she'd take something if it was given to her with such enthusiasm.
@Waker
The shapers came in for handshakes, high-fives and even hugs, and sure enough, someone at the back grabbed the beers. They weren't in something like branded cans or even bottles; instead, cork-top flasks had been filled with home-brewed yeasty goodness, near barrels at the other end of the room. These were uncorked, swigged from, and handed off toward the new hatches.
Meanwhile the names were repeated, often crowed. "EYY! Cernunnos? Did I get that right? Good sh--stuff. Good stuff. Real impressive, like!" and "Read? --Sure, okay! Cool. Good name. Solid."
When Waker reached for a toolbelt, the Shaper laughed and tried to press an opened flask into the tentacle. "That's my tools, hey! They're no good for you. Not yet, but maybe you wanna learn?"
At this, the Shapers exchanged glances, then grinned at the three children. "I mean, you could go your own way," said one, with a shrug. "And you'll always be welcome back here!" said another. "BUT! If you wanna learn how to Shape, like us, we could teach you!" added a third.
Most of them were now standing around, cheerfully drinking from their flasks. Another was shuffling a deck of cards, glancing at the table--probably considering a game.
