"Hello old friend," Edeltraud said. She approached the rift with slow steps, her hooves clicking softly. She sighed, and laid down before it as if carrying a great weight, tucking her legs beneath her. "I am afraid that I come to you in dire straits, friend. I am alone. Sad isn't it? I have lost both my pretty dolls, leaving me alone. Rather like the last time I visited you though, hmm...?" She chuckled.

"It is like I have gone in a circle, ending up here again. The last time I visited you in such a situation, you left me something pretty. Would you do that for me again, sweet? Even though I may be much larger than I once was? Maybe you'll even inspire me to regrow my collection."
Somewhere distant, a man was holding something in front of him, staring at it with a mixed expression of disbelief and disgust. "But why a doll?" he asked.

There was no one there to answer. No one to explain that it had been a gift from a child; that, despite its eerie appearance, it was beloved as a sign of gratitude. To him, it was just gross: a little dirty, absolutely creepy to look at, and--

...He looked around. Nobody was looking. Nobody would know. He tossed it, and-

...From the Rift, an item flew. It tumbled out, landing limply at Edeltraud's hooves.

It was a dyed, soft leather lanyard, light purple and grey. The lanyard was meant for a human's neck, or a Witch's one; it was decorated with a few little hanging bones and teeth of various, unknown, and small species, along with a few dark turquoise and gray beads. Two things dangled from it. The first was a skeleton key--one that could theoretically open any old lock created with that key type in mind--made of slightly tarnished wrought iron. This key glowed softly, enchanted with a Bauble-type spell strong enough to give off just enough light to see by in the dark, the silvery-white color of moonlight.

The other item was a small, cute, brown-gray ragdoll: just a head about three inches tall, round, with dark button eyes, and a sewn smiley face with a sewn tongue ticking down out of one side. It had a body--a rounded torso and four limbs--with no discernable features, and it had no hair. Some--like the gentleman who'd surreptitiously hurled it into the Rift--might have considered it creepy. Others, endearing.

Either way, it was just a little dirty.
