Galleon realized her mistake when the bundle of feathers and fury that was Shrike started lashing out. Galleon has positioned herself perfectly to get hit in the face. She shuttered her eyes. And get hit she did. One good batter of the wing, and Galleon was suddenly awash in diziness and disorientation, a sensation that only grew worse as Shrike followed up with more hits.

She flopped backwards heavily and shoved with her forelimbs blindly, trying to push Shrike away. Being blind was an obvious hindrance. If it was hard before for her to get her forelimbs in with how Shrike was flailing when she could see, doing it blind was impossible. Instead she turned her face away as best she could, attempting to shake out the awful sensations. "Not smart," she muttered to herself.

Wait, it worked?

That was--unexpected. Her mindless flailing had caused Galleon to pull her face away just a little--so Shrike tried to take the opportunity, attempting to do what she'd thought of before and sort of slide-wiggle out from under her like the half-worm she was. It helped that the sandfish was trying to shove her away, but getting free and into the air was imperative. (Shrike had no idea how long the fight had gone, or whether it was nearly over.)

She made an attempt, then, to turn and yank herself away, probably losing feathers in the process--and if she could, leap for the air.
