With the crashing falls, dumping gallons of water down into the deep lagoon of the Pisces cave. The room was thick with mist and just the temperature to give anything a chill down their spine. Laying on a little ledge was an odd shaped stone. Rough around the edges, seeming to be very heavy in weigh since it has been very still all this time and not even the water from the falls caused the stone to budge. Or has it? A little tremble went over the stone, causing it to slightly rock right out of the slop it was pinned in. Darkness. It was not the rock itself that had stirred, but what was curled up inside. Something struggled in the cramped quarters, small and new. With another shake, the rock began to roll down closer to the lagoon. So dark. It did not take long before the rock was at the edge, dancing with fate to fall in. Oh how cramped the little life felt in its safe darkness. No more, no more! The little life struggled, and with each struggle the closer to freedom they felt. Each struggle caused the rock to shake and rumble. A crack formed on the side of the gagged rock, letting out a hissing noise. The mist from the room leaked into the crack and reached the little life that was curled inside. This somehow encouraged the shaking the grow stronger and the crack grew larger. Suddenly, the crack went all the way around the rock slitting it into two. Out rolled a small little creature, covered in reddish-brown fur and a bright blue stone on the end of its nose. The little life struggled to stand, almost falling into the clear waters of the lagoon. So weak and confused, round eyes blinking furiously as they tried to make out what was around her. It wasn't so dark out here. She fell back down onto her rump, glancing at the halves of the rock she had crawled from. It was dark in there. "So dark . . ." Little mouth formed those words, but nodded when she felt they sounded right. Yes, it was dark in there but it was so cold out here. The little life shivered as she started to look over at the large waterfall that filled the lagoon she woke up next to. |

It hadn't been long that she herself had emerged from her egg-like chrysalis to meet her first friend Leon. He was such a nice bear and she was glad to have had someone near when she was hatching. Now as she wandered through the cave the thought occurred to her that she might not be alone here... If she had hatched what if other gembounds were around and hatching as well. The thought sent a thrill of excitement through her. Oh, new hatchlings meant new potential friends! She loved those. It meant she could learn even more about the different creatures here.
As she walked through the cave the sound of rushing water reached her ears and the ground underfoot became slippery and wet. The lioness had to extend her claws to keep from sliding around. The sparse light dimmed even further and even with her feline sight it was difficult to see very well. The chill in the air was also not very nice. She loved the warm and she was finding out slowly that her fur was ill-equipped to deal with the sometimes cool conditions of the cave.
"So dark..." Her ears twitched as a tiny voice reached them. It was a new voice, experimental almost. Was that a new hatchling? Perhaps it was. Poor thing, all alone in the cold and dark cave. The lioness' jaws parted as she tasted the air, attempting to locate the source of the smell. She followed the scent all the way to a lagoon where she could just make out the shape of a strange-looking animal. The female put on a comforting grin as she slowly approached. "Hello. Is dark. But dark can be better with friends." Her voice was kind as she approached the younger gembound. Remembering Leon's first words to her when she'd hatched she offered, "You cold?" She laid down on her side on the slippery ground. She wasn't as big as a bear but she could offer some warmth.

The little rodent shivered, eyes opened wide as she looked around while trying to make out all the shapes. Next to her lay the half of the stone she has crawled out of, it was a vivid blue swirling with so many shades. Matching the very stone that grew from the bridge of her nose. She twisted around at the sound of patters of the wet cave floor. Was someone there? Before she could call out to ask, the voice was so close to her. "Hello. Is dark. But dark can be better with friends." The little life gasped in awe at so many words. Instead of leaping away, she scooted closer to try and get abetter look at the figure behind the voice. Clearing her throat, "Better with friends . . ." Head titled a tad, shifting her weight to sit on her hind legs and hold her front close to her chest to softly sniff at the fuzzy face of the other. "You a friend?" Carrie asked softly, liking the sound of the word and very much liking the feeling of this one's fur. Moving down, she circled once around the other, legs still wobbly but she tried her best before making it back to their face. The sound of rushing water echoed this cave, seeming so load at first but it sort of faded into the background, not bothering the little female to much any longer. "You cold?" Was she cold, taking in the feelings around her, but quickly nodded. "Yes, cold . . . and wet" With a little shake, some of the water flew off her but she would stay damp for now. Taking note of this other's soft form and quickly scooted closer. "Not cold." Inferring that their fur wasn't cold, but very warm. Carrie smiled a little, pressing herself closer to them before a thought crossed her mind. "Carrie . . . that is me." It sounded right, maybe it was her name? |

The girl was pleased that the little gembound wasn't afraid of her. Better yet she seemed to pick up talking quite quickly. The other little creature sat up on her hind legs and extended her nose forward. The lioness did the same and gave a quick experimental sniff of the order. Her scent was not unlike that of water but mixed with it was the smell of the little creatures she'd seen scampering around but it was still slightly masked by her newborn scent. Interesting.
Makyna watched with some amusement as the other circled her with wobbly legs. Had this been what she was like? Wobbly and curious about everything. Truth be told she was still curious about things but not so much wobbly, not anymore since she'd gotten used to her legs. "Yes! I is friend. You is friend. We are friends." That was how you made friends, right? She was still relatively new to this whole thing but this was how she had made friends before.
"Yes, cold . . . and wet" Of course she was cold and wet. The two predominating feelings in this area. It was an unfortunate place to hatch. Speaking of wet and cold lying on the slick ground was starting to get to her. For now she would be alright but she didn't want to be in this area too long. Plus, she was sure that the other would want to explore as soon as she got her land-legs. "No. I is warm." The talk made by the hatchling was relatively easy for her to understand. After all her own speech was still rather stilted.
Carrie? That must have been her name. Makyna nodded her head encouragingly. "Yes, yes. You is Carrie." She pointed a paw at Carrie then turned it around and pointed at herself. "I is Makyna." Then she sat the paw on the ground as she continued to look at female with her smile. "Those is names. Carrie, you. Makyna, I." She explained in her words.
Now she scooted closer to the capybara, sharing her warmth further. With the shared heat of the other gembound the cool floor and air wasn't too bad anymore. Her tufted tail flicked to and fro as she listened to the strange sound of running water, it was oddly soothing. A different rhythm of the cave that she wasn't used to. Flowing water in a stream, she'd seen that before when her friend Fisher had nearly drowned but the standing pool that they lay beside was different. "Falling water is nice. Sounds good on ears..." She mused aloud, voicing her thoughts.

The young capybara relax as she pressed close to the other gembound, very pleased with the warmth that they provided. She took note in the differences between her and the other that found her. Not only was the other larger then her, but her fur was soft to he touch. Carrie noticed that her own fur was rough, short and reddish. Hmmm, it caused her to think about if there were others around this place. How big was this place? Her mind began to trail off as the ideas came to her. Yet, the voice of the larger gembound pulled her back. "Yes! I is friend. You is friend. We are friends." So they were friends? Liking the sound of that, a smile crawled over the little newborns face. "Yes, yes. You is Carrie. I is Makyna. Those is names. Carrie, you. Makyna, I." All the new information washed over the young rodent but she seemed to absorb the words right in. "You are Makyna." Testing the word on her tongue. "Makyna." It was a nice name for sure. As they laid next to calm lagoon, the capybara looked around the room now that her eyes had come more into focus. This place was so fascinating, so large and beautiful. Was this all of the world she came into . . . or is there more? Once again, her mind drifted away into wonder. Little webbed toes curled before she wiggled to pressed closer to Makyna, lifting her head so it pressed under their chin. "It makes my nose tickle." Probably referring to the stone on her snout, which seemed to thrive with all the moister in this room. The stone egg she came from still laid in the shallow pool, a glowing swirled blue stone. It shimmered with each ripple from the falls and reflected the glow of the fungus that covered the corners around them. "Is this . . . everything?" Curiosity touched on her words, noting there were openings on ether side of the room. |

The lioness nodded her head as the younger gembound tested the word on her tongue. Quick learner she was. Makyna approved wholeheartedly of quick learning! It felt nice to be able to teach someone something new! Now she and her new friend settled into a comfortable silence both seemingly lost in their own thoughts next to the calm pool of water.
Makyna found her ears strangely liked the sound of rushing water. She didn't know why she enjoyed it, she just did. Now as she listened she wondered where the water came from. As she glanced up with her sharp eyes she noticed that it seemed to flow from the top of nowhere or rather to her it seemed like nowhere since the darkness of the roof was too much for even her to see. To her childish mind it seemed that it was quite possible for the water to flow from some mysterious unknown height without beginning. Perhaps when she grew older she would realize that it had to have some source but for now she was content with her own answer.
With Carrie wriggling closer to her and tucking her head up under Makyna's chin she was distracted from her thoughts. She didn't mind though, it was fun when she got to interact with the new hatchling. "Makyna fur make Carrie nose tickle?" With her different stone placement and different power imbued into the gem she couldn't feel the moisture the same way as the capybara so it was natural that she thought Carrie was referring to her fur. Her head was underneath her chin, after all, so that's where she drew the conclusion from.
Ky lowered her head and bumped it against Carrie in the typical cat-like fashion. Her two rounded ears perked with interest at her companion's next question. "No no no, many other things. Large cave, much to see!" She squeaked excitedly. Blue eyes shown with wonder as she explained further. "Glowy moss, glowy stones, other creatures!" She grew even more excited as she thought of a specific "other creature". "And Leon! He big big friend but nice friend! Makyna like him lots! Carrie should meet him and see other things!" Yes! That would be perfect. Leon knew even more than her and he could help her explain the world to his newcomer.

Little ears twitched at all the sounds, it was calming to listen to everything around. Silence was no fun for sure, darkness was even worse. "Makyna fur make Carrie nose tickle?" Was that was it was? The little one rubbed her nose over the felines fur. Hmmm. She shook her head a little, that wasn't what it was. This sort of tickle was different, it confused the little thing. Maybe she will better understand the feeling again later, she was to new to take in that deep question. "No no no, many other things. Large cave, much to see!" Now that caught her interest tho! Perking up, looking the other gembound in the eyes. "Really?" There was more to this world, so much to see? Little heart fluttered in her chest, was this excitement, joy, the eagerness the know? Whatever it was, it made Carrie very happy to hear such news. It already seemed like an adventure to soon discover every inch of this wet place but to know more was out there. The capybara scooted over to face the lion better, eager to hear more. "There is more like Carrie and Makyna?" A spark danced in her eyes, and what was moss? edit for roll The gem on the bridge of her nose glowed a little, unknowingly doing something she would learn more about later in life. Even tho she was wet from the moist air in the room, the young rodent had yet to drink from the lagoon. So maybe it was her body subconsciously needing to hydrate itself or maybe it was a flook. For some of the mist around them pulled closer to Carrie and disappeared into her little form. Leaving her feeling refreshed and more awake then before. "Can Carrie meet Leon?" It took her a second to feel a change, but not much was minded of it since her friend was telling her about their other gembound friend and the little female wanted to know more! |

Life is precious.
At her question the little creature shook her head in a negative. Makyna was at a loss. If her fur wasn't making her nose tickle then what was? There were no little bugs or little mice and the thought of the air itself making her nose feel that way was silly to the lioness. So, she just settled with the explanation of the capybara's nose being sensitive to all the new smells in the air. Had her nose tickled when she first came out? No. It had been just fine. Oh well, it wasn't as if the feeling was causing the little one great discomfort so it was alright.
Besides, there were other things to discuss!
"Really, really!" She confirmed happily. Carrie was excited now but just wait until she got outside of the cave and was able to see all the new others! The little gembound wouldn't know what to do with all of her excitement! "There are others but some like us but some not like us. Many different kinds! Some big, some small, some with no fur at all!" She'd seen a snake once and it was the most interesting thing to find a gembound with no fur but instead smooth scales. Every day was a learning experience.
The lioness became distracted when the gem on the end of Carrie's nose began to glow slightly. "Hu--?" Her head tilted slightly to the side as she watched with curiosity. The slow moving mist wasn't enough for Ky to notice, it was all too subtle of an act. Plus, the glowing on the capybara's nose captured all of her attention. It took a full moment before she registered the next question and was able to respond accordingly. "We can meet Leon! We has to leave here first. Other areas to explore. Leon will be in other rooms." She nodded her head resolutely as if finding Leon was the most important task ever. "If Carrie wants to, Makyna can take her to other rooms!" She didn't know how well the little one's legs worked yet, perhaps she'd want to wait a little longer.
With the thoughts of the other rooms and catching back up with her bear friend she forgot to ask Carrie about the glowing. Perhaps she would remember sooner or later but for now her childish mind was preoccupied with other exciting things.

Feeling a bit refreshed, the little rodent was now standing on all fours in front of Makyna. "We can meet Leon! We has to leave here first. Other areas to explore. Leon will be in other rooms." Just the idea of meeting others turns the wheels of curiosity for Carrie. They would get to leave this cold wet place and see new things, which made her try and image those sort of things could be? More rocks, more water falling from high? Well, when all you ever seen was the room she was standing in there wasn't much else to think of. Which just made her thrilled at the idea now. "Carrie is glad that Makyna found me." Titling her head a bit to the side before glancing over at something that caught her attention. Legs were still on the wobbly side but which each step, the capybara was getting a better idea on how to use them. What caught her eye was some glowing moss that filled the cracks of the rocks near a tiny stream of water that flowed away from the clear lagoon. Now that her eyes had adjusted to the light she could see better. Even if it was still dark in these caves. "Water move ever place here?" Touching her front foot in the little stream for a moment before looking back over to the lion. "If Carrie wants to, Makyna can take her to other rooms!" And this is when the little gembound figured out she could move pretty quickly. Rushing back over to the other and nodded quickly. "Oh please please. I wants to see more!" She wondered what Leon would be like, and the other gembounds she spoke of. They said everyone looked different from each other; would that mean she might not find others like herself? How exciting! Maybe she was being to eager to everything, but the young thing didn't know any better since she wasn't even a day old. So much needed to be learned and she wanted to learn it all! |

Life is precious.
Makyna gave a toothy grin at the little critter before her. "Makyna is glad she found Carrie." It was true. This new friend was great to be around and it was fun educating her about the world they lived in. She was like an older sister or a tutor or something like that, though the little lioness didn't know those words yet.
She watched quietly as the other went to investigate some moss. For fun the feline concentrated hard on the moss and attempted to break some of it off so Carrie could have some if she so wanted. Her attempt ended with a bit of moss breaking from the main part and landing at the capybara's feet. If Carrie wanted it she could grab it but Makyna was really just pleased that she'd managed to use her powers in such a way. Now she had something new to show Leon! Well, besides the new friend. "Water move some places here. Not all places." Or at least she didn't think so... There were some areas she had seen with water but some that didn't have water. It made her wonder where the water came from, really. Where did it originate? Where did it all go? Those were questions that she couldn't answer yet but hopefully she would one day.
Makyna had been in the middle of standing up when the other had rushed back to her. The lioness had no idea that the new hatchling could run so fast until she cleared the distance surprisingly quickly. The tawny gembound couldn't help but give a goodnatured laugh at Carrie's enthusiasm. "Okay, okay! Makyna show you! Come come, follow her!" With that she flicked her tail towards the exit of the tunnel in an indication that the capybara should follow her. She knew that Leon and possibly others would be outside of this cold place so that would have to go look.
