(it's that time again folks)
Sometimes, Mordecai wonders what it would be like to be his own person.
In fact - not just sometimes. Mordecai will find himself often thinking of what it would be like if he and his brother hadn't coalesced at all in their pyrope prison. Perhaps they would emerge as two different snakes, or perhaps they would have their own space to themselves in two separate chrysalises.
But a more horrifying thought crosses the head's mind at this moment. It's a thought he thinks of often - he's even had nightmares of it before - and causes him to dismiss his thoughts all together. He feels guilt when he thinks it because it would mean either his lack of existence, or his brothers'.
What if, if only one snake came out? What if one of the heads just didn't exist at all? This was what was on Mordecai's mind as his brother slithered down a tunnel into a room that emanated soft blue light.
Mordecai often thinks of himself to be the one emerging victorious from the chrysalis, one-headed and able-bodied; but he knew something perhaps his brother didn't realise just yet.
Mordecai couldn't move.
Mordecai was the extra head holding his brother back.
And that hurt him more than any accusations of being abnormal mutants ever would.

But while Morty would contemplate for hours and hours on end, Henry thought absolutely nothing of it. To him, his brother to be right next to his side forever and always was a blessing. He knew it wasn't normal - hell, he'd been told by all sorts of strange single-headed people that he was broken.
Henry was at peace. He was happier than any of those gembounds ever could be - they didn't understand him or his brother. Not even Kerberos, someone both he and Morty thought they could relate to simply didn't understand. He had an extra head than Morty and Henry did, and yet they were still called broken.
Broken. Unnatural. Abnormal. Mutants.
The thoughts briefly ran through Henry's head. He hated them and he tried his best to ignore them as he slithered down the tunnel into a new room that glowed brilliantly. He felt better here - better than he did in Canis or tunnel K, or even Orion.
He looked to his brother with a dumb smile on his face - but he recieved no smile in return. He didn't mind - he was fairly sure that his brother was wholly incapable of smiling at this point, anyway.

There is a small disturbance in the air. Just the faintest, most subtle of noises; barely noticeable, save for the sensation that something had changed. Nearby, a small and inconspicuous cluster of stalactites, oddly intact since the battle against Raheerah, hangs from the ceiling.
A curious hum emanates from among them.

Henry was none the wiser. He slithered happily from here to there before he finally lifted his gaze upwards with a contented hiss.
"Morty? Morty-morty-mort-morty? Look!"" the head said. The tail of the two-headed creature curled up in excitement.
"What is it?" came Mordecai's - quite frankly - uninterested reply.
Henry didn't seem to mind. The head shook with anticipation - something he had picked up from the cat when he first emerged from his chrysalis. "Look, there's rocks on the ceiling. Morty."
Mordecai was busy staring at the spire, but he soon turned to look at his literal headmate, and then he drew his gaze up to the ceiling with a tilt of his head. "Yes, there are," he said simply.

The buzzing continued, an attempt to lure the two-headed snake towards it. It would persist until the snake was directly underneath the stalactites and then, as if by some nefarious plot, the stalactites came loose. Unless the snake is fast enough, it may find itself effectively crushed by the falling rocks.
Mordecai and Henry must make a saving throw to avoid being crushed by the rocks. Roll 'Other', and achieving anything other than a Critical Failure or a Failure will constitute avoiding the rocks.

Henry slithered closer with a smile on his face, he even lifted half of his body up to look closer at the ceiling. Mordecai didn't consider it a good idea - oh, no. He was going to snap at his brother as he had countless times before, he was going to turn his head and hiss at Heinrich to stop misbehaving.
It happened in slow motion, it seemed, from the second the pointed rock entered his line of sight and so near his brother's face. It fell closer and closer and the last second he could detect his brother's face, the smile stopped. The smile that he had seen plastered on Henry's face just.... stopped.
And from there, there were no improvements. He felt his eyes widen as the rock pierced his poor brother's nose, the second it broke the skin he saw crimson liquid spray out from the other head's nose and as the stone sank in further, the cracking of his skull. The rock didn't stop there. It sank and sank until it planted itself in the ground, with Henry's broken and shattered remains lying under it.
Blood. There was so much blood. Not only on the ground, the rock, but on Mordecai too. His blood, his brother's blood, was pooling out from under the rock where his poor brother lay. He couldn't hear him. He couldn't feel him. Although he dreaded it and oh, did he dread it, he just hoped his brother was dead.
A sharp scream of terror and horror filled his ears as he stared at the unmoving remains of Heinrich. The scream was quickly mixed with words, loud and frantic, wheezing and shaking. 'No, no, no, no, no.'
This wasn't what he wanted. He knew he and his brother would die, but not like this. He wished he could be a singular body - but not like this. He couldn't move. He couldn't speak. What could he even say? No one was here to listen to him. His brother wasn't here. He was long gone now.
Just like he wished for.

Less than half a second later, the rest of the stalactites shook loose from above, crashing down around the snake. What remained of him alive was buried beneath the rubble, sending a cloud of dust puffing up into the air and when it settled, nothing seemed to move from beneath.
The buzzing quieted.
From above, a tiny golden form hovered, like a ball of moving light. It fluttered around the pile, examining the wreckage it caused, even landing upon the rocks. The light dimmed, revealing the cat-like sprite whose wings slowed their speedy fluttering. She strutted along the rocks, poking one, kicking another, until she placed her hands on her hips with a satisfied chuff. "Too bad," She hummed. "could've made a nasty beast if it was bigger. Oh well!" Nemean giggled and launched off of the pile of debris, buzzing away.
