It's cold out there... >>
So why not stay here, under my tail?
Kerberos finally unearthed the snake, scars littering Henry's face, and stood silent, sniffing at the pair quietly, timidly. Something horrible had happened to them, but they were alive. Blessedly alive. The center head gave Henry the tiniest lick his huge tongue could manage, a shiver crawling through his fur.
As Mordecai explained, the dog seemed to withdraw further into silence, letting out only a solitary whine as Mordecai put his face against a furry cheek of the canine. Henry had died, yet had come back? Was that even possible... Perhaps, for a snake that was sick and born in the passage between life and death. He just hadn't been expecting such an answer.
He lifted up his gem-filled paw, carefully scooping the snake into a mess of his scruff fur.
The air grew warm, the cool, dampness of Polaris melting away to just a fuzzy, comforting feeling. The dog shifted, laying on his side, bringing his hind legs up to the snake, his tail curling around himself tightly. The warmth seemed to fill the whole area the dog encompassed, his paw a pink, torchlit center of warmth.
