There was no expectations.
For weeks, the gembound has been developing in his stone haven which was hidden among the dense vegetation of Eridanus. There it sat on the leaf infested floor... waiting. Waiting for the day. Today was the day.
His body had become to large for the protective shell and that caused a break. Slowly but surely, the new homebound started to emerge. First came his legs, then his body, and finally his cranium. The shell was broken. A new life had blossomed.
At first, the newborn did not move nor open his eyes. Fear immediately flooded him. The dirt underneath him, the moss tickling his soft coat, it was too overwhelming. He didn't know what to make of this, that is why his eyes were shut tightly. But as the minutes passed, he got used to these new feelings and he dare to open an eye. And he saw them. Two legs sprawled in front of him. They were his legs. So strange. What surprised him more was the thing placed at the base of his nose. A bright green.... thing. A gem, though the newborn didn't know it. A peridot to be exact. It was so enchanting for him.
The boy ripped his attention away from the gem and onto the surrounding plants that brushed against his fur. What once frightened him now gave him the feeling of comfort, but why? Maybe it was just the mere fact they were the only things protecting him from this new world. It concealed him from anyone who was just pasting by. The newborn's ears flattened on his head as he moved forward and pressed his nose against the vegetation. The feeling was good and he pressed his whole face and then body against the plants. So heavenly to him somehow. But why?
