Awakening for the first time was a strange experience for Apollo. First was a sort of… blackness. The color black was different than nothingness, he thought. Black was something, so it couldn’t be nothing. Then came the sensation of feeling. He had no idea what he was feeling, but whatever it was suspended him in… air? No. If he was suspended in something he could feel, then it couldn’t be air, could it? His eyelids fluttered, but something told him to keep them closed against whatever was suspending him in place. Something told him he didn’t want that liquid in his – liquid! He was suspended… in liquid. What was liquid?
One wing began to move around in the oddly thick substance. What was this stuff? And why was he stuck in it? The wing that was moving brushed against something hard. He immediately brought it back to the hard thing, brushing against it more in order to figure out what it was. But without his sight, he was lost. He moved the other wing about, and it too brushed against something hard. Hmm… He brought both wings down, in a pseudo-flap, and they brushed the hard thing all the way down. He was suspended by liquid that was trapped in… something?
The idea of being trapped in anything did not appeal to him. He was a Bird. Birds were meant to fly, right? Not be trapped inside things. He wiggled his talons around, trying to push himself forward, and his beak bumped the hard thing that held him here – wherever here was. He attempted to push against the… rock? But nothing seemed to happen. He pushed harder, shoving his talons against the liquid in an attempt to gain pushing momentum. That didn’t help. After exhausting himself, he drifted quietly to the bottom of the rock prison, waiting to gain his strength back so he could try again.
