With the pup following in tow, Arkrael stalked through the tall fern bushes. Following the scent trail of a small group of Cave Deer. They would be much easier for her to catch with her wounded shoulder, even if it would be a little too much for the pup to eat. It would leave her with something to nibble on herself before taking the rest to the cub that was still resting back in her Den. Her head was held low, her paw steps slow and precise. It wasn't long before she saw the small herd and Arkrael felt her instincts start to grip hold. Hackles bristled as the top of her muzzle began to quiver and wrinkle in a silent snarl.
Taking a few steps closer Arkrael crouched low into the fern bushes. For a moment longer she staid in that position only to turn her gaze to the puppy. She knew she would not have to tell him to be quiet as it seemed he did not speak, so she merely whispered to him to stay right here and watch. Once he understood Arkrael turned and faced the herd. She watched them, studied their leisure movement as they grazed over the moss and ferns. Brow's furrowed as a particular face flashed through her minds eye. It felt wrong, hunting the cave deer. If only for the fact her hatchmate had been a deer herself. Even Vazi crossed her mind. It was with those two that she would have once never thought to hunt and eat the creatures she now stared at, but with Tamelyn gone and Vazi no longer himself, Arkrael would not deny herself such a delectable meal. Nor would she deny the puppy such a snack either.
The herd suddenly shifted, throwing their heads up into attention and Arkrael reacted. She sprung from the bushes and rushed them. The herd instantly bolted, shooting off in all directions, but Arkrael kept her gaze on the one target she had picked out. The smallest of the herd. Claws scraped and tore through the moss covered ground, pushing herself until she managed to catch up with the fawn. With a snarl she took one more leap at the doe and gnashing fangs caught the fawn's front leg. The fawn screeched as it tripped and hit the ground, leeaving Arkrael time to release it's leg and move in for the kill. Fangs sunk deep into the cave deer's neck and blood began to fill her muzzle. Arkrael held on tightly as the fawn tried to continue to fight and it was only when the thing finally stopped moving did the wolfess release her hold.
Arkrael sat back on her haunches, cleaning the blood off her chops as she turned her gaze towards where the white pup would be if he had stayed where she askeed him too.
"Alright little one, come on over," she called for him with a soft yip.

You'll never know why your face has haunted me
My very soul has to bleed this time
Another hole in the wall of my inner defenses
Leaving me breathless, the reason I know....
