Fever sat back at Papa's feet while he spoke, nodding all the while, setting down one set of branches down for them while Nettle went over to sit next to Auntie, nudging the bundle over to her. According to Papa, respectfully, elders ate first, and they both knew to obey that. It was polite, and Papa said so.

"Yeah, Auntie! She said. "The Ky-meanie hurt Auntie, Auntie wen' sleepy to heal the owwie, and woke up, an' we found you!" It all made sense!

"We find Ky-meanie, an' we hurt 'em back! Right Papa?" She looked up for approval, her tail swishing back and forth like a whip. "Take their leg! Right?"

She was imagining this great big evil nasty monster that ate people's legs for sport, all black and shadowy with huge fangs! She and Nettle could take them, no problem! After all, they could defeat dragons and score mountains together, and shoot rocks out of the air and set things on fire! They could take on this evil monster that hurt Auntie no problem!
He'd set the berries down in front of Auntie respectfully, not feeling particularly hungry, himself. The pain was more than distracting him from anything his stomach might say. He focused through it to hear what everyone was saying, his head nodding, a slight frown on his face. Carnivores were bad, he knew, even if neither he nor his sister had seen one, yet. They were just lucky that way, he supposed. There was Magdalene, but Mama said that she didn't really count. What did that even mean? Were there exceptions to the rule? Papa said that you could tell one y their sharp teeth and bad breath, but the Princess didn't seem scary or mean or anything like what Papa was saying. And if Mama loved her Princess, then so did Nettle and Fever. And she was blind, after all. It wasn't as if she could hurt anyone even if she wanted to.

But Papa also said they tried to trick others with their nice words...did that mean Mama was being tricked into loving them?

Nettle was horribly confused.

Fever was calling for revenge on this Ky thing, and he was still nodding, thinking everything over. Was Ky like Princess? Nice on the outside, but mean on the inside? Why would they take Auntie's leg? What...what should he do?

No. In the end, it didn't matter. He would follow Fever to ends of the earth, and what she wanted to do, he helped, regardless of if it was scaling mountains or hunting carnivores. He would be her shield.

When the two little young ones returned, she gave them both a soft smile but her eyes lingered on Deadnettle a little bit longer. The rodent wasn't sure, but he did seem to be slower then his sister and she hoped he was feeling alright. Soon turning her attention back to Hasira when he explained to her how things were now. Ky was bad? This news caused her heart to feel heavy in her chest. But she was so kind to her and was there the whole time . . . "Why is this . . ." Taking in a shaky breath, "As children, no one hurt each other."

Slowly, the capy raised her head and looked the Lord in the eyes. Had Ky forgotten her, is that why she awoke allow to be found by the twins? Carrie went quite for some time, not feeling hungry any longer. Such things, they didn't make any sense but . . . Hasira seemed to be so sure and there was no one else to help her. Saddened eyes fell to look over to the young ones. The stag had kept them safe so far, that must mean something right?

The stag's gaze turned with amusement to his "daughter". The things she spewed from her mouth would have turned most parents' stomachs but not the evil stag. He thought her words were amusing he even considered them for a moment while he smiled down at her. "Shh, do not speak out of turn, my child." He chided her gently. "Your words, though. They are correct. Ky should pay for what she has done but it was Carrie who was wronged. I am the Lord of the Herbivores but I will not act unless you want me to." After all, sooner or later Makyna would be crushed under his hoof as well but whether it would be sooner or later was up to Carrie. "We could indeed take one of her legs to make up for your own injured one." It had grown back now but the fact still remained that Ky had helped cause its initial removal.

"Do not believe that, dear Carrie. They just had not had the chance yet but it was in their blood. As children you lost your leg and as children it was still Makyna's fault, was it not?" Ah, she was so naive... Just like the Pure One. It was cute really. This was the reason he set out to protect the naturally docile herbivores.

Her mouth made a perfect 'o' shape, then she looked down, and said softly, "Sorry, Papa." Another lesson to learn, she guessed. Oh well! She'd remember it next time. Nettle was always better at minding the rules than she was, anyway - she was just too excited, sometimes. And besides, Papa agreed with her! The Ky monster should pay!

But...only if Auntie wanted it. She half-agreed with the idea - she really wanted to go after the monster and get revenge for their Auntie, but if she didn't want that to happen, that was fine. She and Nettle could go on a secret mission to scope out the monster on their own! It would be fun!

She listened now with this idea in her head that made her ridiculously happy. A secret mission, like two twin spies, with everything out to get them, all the stakes raised, monsters all around! Ohhh, she couldn't wait to tell this to Nettle!
He watched his sister grow excited over something she'd thought of with a deadpan expression, his head and his eyelids low. Honestly, her thoughts were transparent. She listened to Papa give the choice to Auntie as to whether or not to give chase to the monster, and she paused, and them brightened up. She probably wanted to do it alone, like another grand adventure.

Well, he hoped he was envisioned in her daydreams too, because either way, he was coming along. She'd get herself into trouble for sure. She was a walking disaster waiting to happen, and he had to protect her.

"Papa...." He said softly, raising his hoof somewhat off the ground for a question. He waited patiently until Papa gave his permission to speak, then said, "Should....protect Auntie."

@Carrie @Hasira

Everything the Lord told her would be kept in mind, she would remember his words and be sure to think back on his warnings if she ever ran into a carnivore. Why have things changed so? When she was young, it was so simple but maybe she was to young to understand it all at the time? The question from Deadnettle to his father caught her attention and the rodent turned to look at the child. "You should be the one protected, don't worry about me." It was an almost natural reaction, but as an adult now she shouldn't need to be protected by a young one. She should help protecting them.

Carrie turned back to Hasira. "I can't see how it was or wasn't; but if you feel it was her fault then . . ." A soft nod was given. Inside she wasn't sure yet, but the stag was sure so it must be right? With time she would understand better, this was just so much to take in a single day.

Turning her head, she gazed over to the sister of the twins. "I don't want to hurt others . . ." And she didn't want the twins to hurt others ether. They might get hurt.

He twitched an ear at his young daughter, all was forgiven he just expected her to guard against such outbursts in the future... Or perhaps he wouldn't be so forgiving. He heard the soft voice of Nettle, the calmer of the pair. The stag tilted his antlers to the boy, a silent gesture that he should continue with his question. The stag nodded his head. Yes, she did need to be protected. She was so like Clover but unlike Clover she was not nearly as attractive. A silly thing to note thing about one he noted. Still, she needed to be kept safe until she was independent enough to care for herself against carnivores... If she was ever independent enough. If she never was then... well... He'd think of something for her to do so she wasn't just a dead-weight. He couldn't have all of his children protecting her and he couldn't keep an eye on her twenty-four seven as he had things to do around his territory and outside. Hmm... Maybe a personal bodyguard for the time being? But who?

"Nonsense, you deserve to be protected just as much as anyone. The children just have to be properly trained for the job which I plan to take care of myself in the near future." Battle training need not be neglected. Children couldn't frolic and play carelessly forever. The stag shook his head at her next words. This was what they needed to get away from. Those silly instincts of herbivores to run, to not harm. Carnivores would harm and they needed to do it right back. "My dear Carrie, I know that you do not but it is this sort of thing that condemns our race. Us herbivores are naturally good and honest creatures by nature but it is this very nature that carnivores take advantage of. If we do not fight back, do not hurt them... Then they will eradicate us. It is a necessary thing we must do to show that we are not afraid. When the carnivores are gone or otherwise subservient then we can afford to be docile as our natures intend but until then... No weakness." His eyes had taken on a hard glint during this speech but now he blinked and the kindness returned and patience indulgence returned. "I understand where you are coming from, you are so pure and naive which is something that is found in our race but if you do not set aside those feelings for now it will be your downfall. Besides, hurting carnivores is nothing. They are not true gembounds like us... They are beasts and monsters that only want to hurt and destroy." Calm. Reassuring. Confident. As if he knew exactly what he was talking about.

She was just so wrapped up in her own fantasy that she barely heard Auntie refusing their offer to protect her, to get revenge on the monster. She barely heard it, and even some part of her that heard it completely disregarded it. She just wanted to go on this adventure already, she could barely contain herself at the thought!

But when Papa spoke she paid full attention because she always needed to when he spoke, that's what he taught them and that's what she did! And she got even more excited when he agreed with them both! Yeah, they should protect their Auntie, and they should be trained! She wanted to know how to blow things up; she could just feel the need in her burning up right now, her throat glowing with an inner red heat and she tried to conceal her excited giggling. She wanted to burn monsters and make them turn into cinders so that they wouldn't hurt anyone she cared about!

Papa was so right, all the carnivores just needed to die! And Fever and Nettle would help!
He saw Fever grow excited with Papa's long speech, and he just stood straight and true, frowning and nodding at all this. They would get training to go and hunt these monsters....Imagery went through his head, of evil shadowy monsters with jagged fangs and nasty breath that tried to trick you, and him and Fever shocking and burning them till they moved no more. It seemed right, all that Papa had told them since they woke up. He was their truth, the dictator of their lives. They listened to everything he said.

But the image conflicted with the Princess that Mama loved. She wasn't....like that. She was calm and considerate and patient, hardly moving at all, and he could feel the love between her and Mama. Princess was a carnivore....would they have to kill her? Was she like all the monsters out there, with pretty skins and calm words?

He didn't know if he could kill Princess. He didn't want to.

But if Fever....

.....

...He would protect Fever.

He would train as much as he could under Papa, would take anything he was given, if only he could protect his sister. Nothing else mattered but that. And Fever would train so she could protect herself. He couldn't be around all the time, she needed to know how to use her magic.

His muscles became ridged in his determination. He would do this. For her.
