ORIGIN

Paws trailed quickly across Polaris. For cycles she had kept to herself, simply adventuring, roaming all over and finding all the treasures she could. However, she had been digging around polaris for awhile now and her searching had paid off. In her mouth a topaz gem was clamped tightly. Not just any gem. A gem that was in the shape of a helm. It was super exciting and there was only one person Mawra could think to show it too! It never occurred to the fox that this gem could have possibly belonged to someone else.

Happily she strolled to the Crystal River, excitedly looking around in the water. She would call out for Eeya, but she had a big gem in her mouth! Maybe if she jumped in and splashed around a lot he would hear it! So with that in mind, Mawra yipped and jumped right into the water. Making a large splash Mawra gave a muffled laugh as she now splashed around. She took a few divees down, trying to see if she could spot Eeya, but to no avail could she.

It wasn't until something nipped at her tail did something startle her. She spun around in the water, laughing around the gem helm. It had to be eeya playing games on her! It just had too! She smacked her paws against the surface of the water, as if trying to bring him up all the while her back legs kicked and kicked to keep her afloat. It wasn't until a sharp bite to her flank did she yowl in surprise and hehr long ears pin back. The bite made her drop the helm and she crieed out in alarm as she made to dive for it. As she came under the water her body froze instantly when she found herself facing an entire school of strange looking fish. Fish that were all facing her.

A startled cry escapeed her and she instantly had to rise above the surface as she gasped for air. Her gems suddenly sparked to life eand small currents of electricity rolled across her form. She felt the jolt in the water, and even saw a single fish rish up and suddenly start floating. The water began to stir and bubble up around her and she crieed out again as she began to feel little bites against her. She had to get back to thee surface! She struggled and struggled, trying to force her way over, but the swarming fish would not let up. They kept her in place.

If only he had arrived sooner. If only he hadn't been splashing about in the tunnels underneath Pisces while he played with his pod and the harmless fish in the area. The dolphin was splashing about, enjoying himself immensely. It was a long while before he decided to venture out and away from Pisces to the other area he liked. Polaris! Perhaps he'd meet some new friends or find something fun to play with! Oh yes!

He squealed happily and kicked his tail as he zoomed through the tunnels straight to Polaris... but something was wrong. He could smell taste blood in the water. Not fish blood but gembound blood. He'd never tasted it before but that metallic flavor was just something that he knew. His instincts told him that this was terrible. The dolphin set off a few echolocating clicks to attempt to identify the situation before it came into focus with his eyes. The imagine he received back in his mind made his normally giddy emotions sink with dread.

There were a group of redfangs and they were attacked... a fox. His sister! No no no! He had to do something! He had to help her! "Maura! Normally he liked to look on the positives of things but there were no positives here. Only bad, much bad if he didn't do anything! He raced towards her, beak aimed at the redfangs as he whistled out, "Maura, kiaakoo aa! Eeya miikiio arriikara!" He slammed into one of the fish, his beak breaking into its flesh and breaking something inside. A bite on his tailfin swiftly had him striking out with the appendage to hit another redfang. Two more mobbed him biting into his dorsal fin and scraping against his gem. The dolphin had never felt such pain before as he'd never fought anything in his life. Everything had always been easy... but today it wasn't. Today was much bad.

He clicked angrily as he thrashed about and finally managed to escape away from the creatures for a brief repose. However, he wouldn't run from this fight. Not when Mawra's life was in danger. He doubled back around and slammed his beak into another redfang before zooming right past to dig his tiny teeth into another to rip open its flesh. With so much blood in the water the fish were in a frenzy. They clacked their teeth and bit and tore at anything that moved.

In the end he didn't know how he got out of it alive but he managed... With a torn and bloodied body he made his way towards the shore. He hoped Mawra was okay... But... Why wouldn't she be? Everything always turned out good in the end! Those optimistic thoughts ran through his mind even while his tail hurt to move and blood leaked into the water around him.

Panic began to grip at Mawra as she continued to struggle, kicking and attempting to bite at the attacking fish. She had never seeen these fish before. It wasn't long before she heard Eeya's calling voice did she cry out for him. Desperately trying to reach him as he came rushing through to fight off the fish. Just as she was about to get to him a fish came torpedoing at her, and with a sharp cry the fish swarmed in. Sharp fangs digging in deep as one fish even managed to grasp tightly around her throat.

She continued to struggle in an attempt to get the fish. Lights began to flash through her gaze as her lungs burned for air as the fish continued to tear into her even as the dolphin tried to fight his way through the swarm. Slowly, but surely, Mawra was dragged under the water, unable to breathe as the fish began to feast upon her body. By the time they were done with her, nothing but her skull gem began floating down to the bottom of the river.

He'd beaten them! All of them! Now he would grab Mawra and take her back to shore... Except... Where was she? He looked around to see a couple of redfangs retreating. He laughed at them and whistled out a few taunts to help send them on their way. He bet that Mawra would laugh at them! Those silly things! They thought they were all that but they weren't! Ha! Now... Where... Where was she?

He searched around calling out her name in his whistling squeaks. He searched back and forth, back and forth but Mawra was a land critter so this wasn't right. Perhaps she was already on land? Yes! That was it!

"Mawra! Mawra! Eeya beat redfangs! Come out, is safe!" He giggled excitedly out to shore. Except... She wasn't there either. He felt something stir in his heart... Worry. If she wasn't on land and wasn't in the water/ Where was she? "Mawra! Mawra! Where are you?" He splashed back below the waves and began to echolocate wildly. Hoping to see something... And something he did see.

At the bottom of the river he saw the image of a stone. A stone in the shape of a skull and horns... Just like Mawra's. Eeya had never seen a deceased gembound before but he had heard descriptions of how the gems popped out of the dead 'bound. Mawra... She was...

Dead.

Eeya's eyes opened wide and for a moment he just floated there. He floated there until he felt a burning in his lungs, a burning that wouldn't go away until he surfaced for air. He grabbed a lungful before plunging again and swimming down to the gem. He stared again, stunned into silence. He couldn't believe it. He... He felt sick. Mawra was his sister and now he could no longer see that sister. It hurt him. It hurt him bad. He was new to such feelings of hopelessness as this. He didn't know what to do. His normal philosophy of just not thinking about it was irrelevant. He couldn't not think about it because she would never return.

He could feel something in his eyes, something new and foreign that shed as he looked down at the stone. Tears... They fell from his eyes as he stared at Mawra's gem and splashed onto it and another gem that was next to hers. He wanted her back. He wanted her back so he could have his happy again...

{Come back... Come back, Mawra...} He whistled but even he knew it was in vain. Sadly he couldn't and it was the burning of his lungs again that led him up to get air. Out of sheer despair he let out a whistling song that echoed about Polaris. It was sad, forlorn, and spoke of death. Any sea critter that heard it should instinctual know the Death Song for a fallen friend but even land critters as well would know of it.

His song ended after a couple of minutes and Eeya traveled back below the waves to grab the stones. Mawra's because it was his sister and the other stone because it was pretty as because Mawra liked pretty things. He would take them back to Pisces and sit them in a nice secluded spot beneath the falls. Now he traveled away but as the waves parted behind him one might notice a bit of blue stone come away. The redfangs had loosened it and now it floated away towards the shore.
