This is where she'd been born. Nearly four long cycles ago, as a stupid, tiny brown whelp. Lux honestly was barely sure how she survived when she looked back on it. The caves were formidable, scary at times. No one had helped her, at least not all that much. There had been the giant bear who had been nice when she'd fallen down, as well as a few other faces that shone clear from her childhood. But she hadn't been with anyone. She had traveled alone. Grew up alone, somehow, surviving against the odds. As Lux sat, gazing upon the rough waterfall from a distance, she couldn't help but feel a strange sense of nostalgia. She wasn't even sure what for... but things seemed more exciting back then. Hard, but exciting. Now life was filled with more serious choices. She probably needed to settle down somewhere, eventually, even though she never thought that would be something for her. The aquamarine collar hung around her neck with a heavier burden every day, but she refused to leave it behind until she... figured something out. It was too important to throw away. With a sigh, the hyena shifted to lay down on the banks of the water, ignoring the dirt and mud that clung to her as she did so. She could wade into the waters for a quick bath later if she had to. For now, rest. |
