The growing child walked past the many rocks of the Polaris cave, taking in all the beauty that it held. The tapir found keeping to herself calming, listening to the cave and all it had to say to her. It sang her to sleep or provided her food, the world she lived in cared for her but oddly enough she found it hard to confront others for attention. They all seemed so busy and she was so small. It was better to just watch and wait for an opening to call out for her.

Alas that was rare and fair in between. Closing her eyes, the child thought to herself "Why is it so much easier to talk to the rocks and not to others?" Unaware her gem glowed and scent that faint whispering message out to the closest gembound near her.

Where the deer and the antelope play"

It just so happened that the closest gembound around was Tennessee. The large lemur was strolling through Polaris with a stone mug clasped in his paws, from it wafted an earthy scent. At his side was his red rat, Daisy. Buckthorn was safely stored at the pen along with his harem and a few fawns. Today the lemur was taking a day off to relax and think about things... Like his special somebody... or, well, she wasn't exactly his special somebody yet but she certainly would be one day! He hoped...

The lemur sighed as he walked along, kicking a pebble ahead of him and sipping intermittently. He passed by the Spire and that was when he heard the whispering voice in his mind. He nearly dropped his mug out of shock and the rat at his side let out an angry hiss at the invasion. Who on earth? Tennessee looked around, shocked at who or what could have done that. That was when he saw the strange creature ahead with its glowing gem. It must've been her! Tennessee had never seen her around before and well, he was always willing to make new friends! Especially those that would love to help around the ranch!

So, he put on a huge grin and walked right up to her. With one paw he tipped his hat respectfully. "Howdy, miss! I reckon it was you who called out? Is somethin' th'matter? I'm always here t'help!"

The tapir was slowly growing since the day she awoke from her dreams, before she was tiny and covered in spots and stripes over her soft body. Now, under those spots and stripes, a light grey color began to form. Showing her child colors would fade with time to reveal her grown up appearance. Though, she was unaware of this and Pene might not even notice her own change. Reaching to touch another gem, feeling how cool to the touch this one was, only to jump at the voice.

Did I call him? Could she do that? Mouth dropped open slightly in surprise, wondering what other things she could do but quickly focused on the one who greeted her. "Hell . . . hello." Turning around to face them, finding the item on their head very interesting. " . . I'm just loney, the rocks don't talk back like I wish they would do." Gazing back to the one she was looking at earlier, "Sometimes when I touch them I see things, but they never last long." Glancing back to the male, "My name is Penelope . . ." Shyly smiling at the other, glad she could talk to someone other them herself.

The tiny little thing was so cute! She seemed softspoken at least to him. It reminded him of his Cayenne. Well, not exactly his but... maybe one day. "Well, perhaps it's time ya start talkin' t'other gembounds an' not jus' the gems!" He grinned, amused by his own little joke. He'd never heard of someone touching a stone and receiving images before but maybe that was just a power of some kind. He would ask about that later. But for now, "Well, howdy Miss Penelope! My name's Tennessee an' this is m'rat Daisy!" The red rat in question let out a grunt. "Now then, if'n yer tired 'a talkin' to the rocks then why not come on down t'my ranch? There's plenny 'a people there that'll talk t'ya. Includin' me!"

The way he spoke was rather strange but how would she know if he wasn't speaking the norm and she had the odd way of using words? Head titled a bit to the side and she gave Tennessee a smile; as well to the rat. "Its . . it's nice to meet the both of you." Hearing his offer, but made a bit of a curious face before speaking up once more. "Is . . a ranch like a home?" The child called the whole cave her home but had yet to explore everything her. After all, she was but a child and this room was vast.

The cowboy nodded his head to her question. "You betcha! It's big, got lotsa nice gembounds an' a huge garden for all us plant-eaters. Very nice place to be." To him there was no other place he'd rather be than at the ranch. It was full of the lesser gembounds he liked to interact with and it had Cayenne there. Nothing could be better.

"Would ya like to see it?" It always did his heart proud to show off all the hard work tha twent into the ranch.
