This is a question posed by myself, not the entire staff team, atm. I'm just very curious to know what kind of stuff you guys would be interested in. You can discuss this topic here all you'd like, but remember that there is a chance we won't implement anything - its all just discussion for now!

But, to the point...

Once all our critters are old enough to mix'n'match some babies -- would you be interested in a potential 'mutation chance' kind of thing? Personally, I think it'd make sense for the first batch of babies to have issues. Creatures that wouldn't normally be hybridized, plus magic? There's bound to be something amiss!

This would include:

- missing limbs / organs
- fused limbs
- disproportionate body parts
- extra limbs / organs
- stuff going 'wrong'
- other stuff idk???
I'd be fine with a chance for mutations, but as each "litter" would only really be one animal, it should be a pretty low chance Maybe 20-30%. There could also potentially be an item to guarantee a healthy child.
Okay so I think this should DEFINITELY be implemented BUT. People should be able to decide whether or not their character's offspring are healthy/mostly healthy withOUT the chance of dying or having serious issues. Because people have to spend Magicka, and time threading, and such, even making the babies in the first place. If they wanna have the chance of a life-threatening mutation or just straight up like... still-birth/egg that never hatches, then that's fine. But that should be a CHOICE. If they WANT healthy babies, they should be able to choose to have healthy babies.

That does take away some of the realism cos IRL people don't get to choose whether their babies come out healthy, but... this isn't real life, so... yeah. That's my two-cents.

That is a good point! I completely forgot that there would only be one offspring created with every pairing. :P

I don't think we'd include stillbirths or failed gembound babies. The magic kind of ensures that something is produced, and the question right now is more along the lines of, "What is it?".

You are right, it does take a lot of time and effort for a character to reach the requirements for offspring, and I doubt we'd include a chance of failure after all of that! :)
Wait but in the Guidebook it says, "Characters are permitted to produce up to 5 children at a time, and must wait 5 cycles following the emergence of their previous litter to have another."

So each litter could be potentially FIVE animals...
Either way, this is all discussion and speculation and whatever other -tion word means "just us talking". :P Whether it applies to one baby or five, it remains the same - do you want possible mutations, or no?

There are many months between now and any gembabies, too!
Throw in a brain twister and make one number on the roll a random chance of the baby being a completely difference species? OOOOOOoooohsnap
@Java oh yeah I know. I was just saying, cos depending on the litter size they could like... have a higher or lower chance of some "bad" mutation affecting one or more baby.
Here's my opinion: Heck yes Mutations. Heck yes.

As long as the babies CAN move, defend, feed and think for themselves, I'm 100% for this. Babies SHOULD be born with defects especially with wildly different species (you put this tiny bird together with an elephant??? what were you thinking you nub) and yes they CAN be bad things! Maybe the baby can't talk right, maybe the baby can't hear properly or can't fly even though they have wings-- here's the thing about defects that I've learned over the years.

Having a defect doesn't make a character less worth or good. Even horribly crippling things like severe asthma or seizures or mental health problems, being blind or deaf-- but that doesn't mean that their life isn't worthy or good or valuable and heck you bet there have been characters and even people with problems from birth who have become so much more than their problem-- but that problem is apart of them???

ok but enough of that nonsense im just saying a "defect" isn't necessarily something that would ruin someone's life even if you think it would ahaha

In my opinion, a Crystallise probably wouldn't produce something that couldn't survive and break free of the shell, so maybe if a critter doesn't seem to respond at hatching time and successfully hatch, maybe the Crystallise starts over and tries again?

(i definitely want defects to be a thing and mutations to also be a thing, make horrible mutant babies that have to learn to live with what makes them different!! it's not the end of the world and actually would make writing a lot of characters interesting... although i suppose some people just want their perfect hybrid babies so maybe give an item option for perfect births :P)
I'm all for mutations! I think they'd be an interesting factor to add to the mix! But i do agree they should be optional. Thats just my opinion, though. Based on the feedback from this poll we may implement something!
