His....father...told him that he had to play with his brother, and he didn't know how to feel about that. He just wanted to cling to safety, to home, to the soft voice that loved him, to his mother who offered him the only wonderful thing he'd ever known, and his father had taken Carrie away from him to speak with her. She didn't look too happy, but she whispered quiet encouragement to him and touched his cheek and smiled at him before she left, and that was the important thing. He would be a brave son for her, he would face what scared him with courage.
He turned. And looked up.
Even if what scared him was supposed to be part of his family.
From the very moment the two brothers locked eyes, instantly they disliked each other, and for Yarrow, the feeling only grew. He didn't want to be around the tall, majestic colt, he wanted to run away and hide and close his eyes against that horrible sneer that told him he was less than worthy.
What did he do? He didn't do anything wrong! He wanted to cry, but he wanted to be brave, so he took a deep breath and kept eye contact with Kingsfoil.
