GRASSY

... And Grassy had quietly decided that this might have been a horrible idea. She had come up here at the request of Dovefeather, a kind, gentle feline who had told her she had shown great "promise", though for what Grassy didn't quite understand. As it was, she was creeping down the uncomfortably cold tunnel with a distinct understanding that there was absolutely no grass here.
In fact, she felt absolutely, completely alone. It had been fine for a while, but at this point she had to stop and take a deep breath, summoning her magic in hopes of finding a friend here in the cold, incredibly long tunnel. Perhaps she should have asked Dovefeather to come with her... But it seemed like imposing, and Grassy had been so optimistic at the start.
Did it have to be so cold?
Be like the single blade of grass. For she too, has been trampled on, mowed down, and hit with such bitterly cold stretches that she had to shut down to survive. Yet still she stands upright with dignity, knowing that she endures... and still she dances with the wild wind.

Cold, here. Her pale scales gripped the earth below her belly, muscles shifting and flexing rhythmically. Her tongue flicked seldom here, not at all in a mood to hunt in this chill. No scent was no problem, however. Vibrations and sight were actively working, catching a glimpse of movement similar to her own. Her pace quickened, but she did not raced toward it. Curiosity powered her, not hunger.@Grassy
Egahi was large in comparison, something she knew the moment she slid over that last rock, where she lingered to watch the green worm become disheartened. A quick tongue flick, just to test it. "Hello, fellow serpent," she said with silk in her tones. She moved a little closer, head touching the ground Grassy was on, body following down before she paused, giving the other space. "I am... Egahi. You are... who?"

Despite the fact Grassy's magic had failed, it seemed fate-- or perhaps the so-called All Mother herself (Grassy was still deciding if she believed that hogwash or not) --had decided on tossing a friend her way anyway. The noodle perked up at the word serpent, her brain fritzing on the border of blade-of-grass and serpent-snake-slither-slither. Was... Was she the serpent?
Her bright golden eyes shined at the sight of an apparently... Albino? Blade of grass? No, no, that wasn't it. Perhaps some other kind of plant... A root of some sort? At any rate, she introduced herself as "Egahi" so the bright green gembound grinned a wide, toothless smile at her.
Be like the single blade of grass. For she too, has been trampled on, mowed down, and hit with such bitterly cold stretches that she had to shut down to survive. Yet still she stands upright with dignity, knowing that she endures... and still she dances with the wild wind.

Testing the air again, tongue brushing against Grassy in a tickling motion. She was in close proximity. Luckily, the chill and a full belly kept Egahi from following instinct. It would be wasteful to eat Grassy, right now. Perhaps later, if she didn't grow to like the little delicacy in a more tangible way. Although, this littler snake was quite a lovely shade of green.@Grassy
"It is... quite cold, here." She lifted her head and looked around, then settled it to the ground again. "We could always... go back to where I am from... Canis. Bone rooms." It was going to take awhile to get used to her own vocal vibrations. It kind of like a buzz; somewhat annoying, but also curious. Too cold.
No other words came from her as she turned herself into a 180, heading back toward the warmth of home. The end of her tail clicked against the stone as it flicked up, accenting her slow turn around. "Come along... Grassy." She tried to not sound sinister, for it was not her intention. It was indeed not warm enough for a pair of cold bloods like them.

Grassy paused at the snake's voice, suggesting they return to... Canis? Bone rooms? The noodle took a moment, and then, with enthusiasm, a grin broke across her face.
So this meant she was going the right way.
Be like the single blade of grass. For she too, has been trampled on, mowed down, and hit with such bitterly cold stretches that she had to shut down to survive. Yet still she stands upright with dignity, knowing that she endures... and still she dances with the wild wind.

Grassy? Odd, but suited. Perfect. The name she'd been give tossed within her mind as she slithered along the cold floor. The green snake was tiny, but very pretty. Such vibrancy stood out in this dank place, and had a very interesting appearance by being next to a creature that would normally target something like her. Grassy's excitement was another odd concept for Egahi, but the use of "perfect" made her bubble inside with her own expression of glee. More ground was covered, but Egahi found herself having to pause or crawl slower so Grassy could keep pace. The inquiry of grass raised questions in her mind; ones that needed to have answers. "Grass? Perhaps... but not much. Lots of dust. Bones... lots of bones. Stones. Rocks. Warmth. Food. Lots of snakes... but few are.. sentient." The word seemed to leave an aftertaste. Somehow, despite being a huntress who preys on others, it seemed odd to not consider them "sentient." ---- "Speech." Thoughts. OOC: out of character Tag: @Grassy |

GRASSY

Grassy was very small and not very fast. It was some wonder how she manged to get this far... Really, if it wasn't for her massive amount of determination, she'd probably just root down in a rock somewhere and let the world go by like her namesake.
As it was, Egahi was incredibly kind. She went slowly, letting the much smaller noodle keep up. The conversation continued, though Grassy was disappointed to find out the truth about Canis. It was supposedly important she come here, for whatever reason, but apparently there wasn't much of any family for her here. The idea worried her.
Dust and bones didn't sound that great, either. She hoped it was at least warm, but the tiny noodle found herself churning with worry as she pressed forward, slithering along. Occasionally flicking her tongue to make sure she wasn't going to crash into Egahi in the darkness. The snake promised warmth and spoke of more... Snakes. Serpents. Grassy felt weird about those terms, as though they were things she was supposed to be but didn't quite consider to truly be her real self.
Her gem was quietly reacting to all of her thoughts, tiny sprouts of grass starting to grow in her wake. Solving the problem she had with the place, unbeknownst to her.

Egahi slid along the ground, a faint trail existing within the dust, which was likely to go completely unseen, based on how incredibly dark this place was. She could feel every word that Grassy formed, stopping short as the other female made an incredibly important point. What did sentience grant them? The pearl snake considered this for a moment, rolling it in every direction carefully. This is a very important question. This is something that needs more thought at a later time. For now, all I can think of is... "Rationality." This was a simple answer, but was the most reasonable response to come to her mind. These other snakes ran purely on an instinct that drove Egahi as well, but they all lacked rationality, even if some sentient beings weren't all too rational themselves. With a small nod at the word, she carried onward again, muscles contracting rhythmically to push her across the ground. ---- "Speech." Thoughts. OOC: out of character Tag: @Grassy |

Grassy considered the answer, the whole while a big doofy smile on her face. She started-- ever so subtly-- moving just a bit faster, wiggling forward until she was nose and nose with the elegant cobra. Her eyes focused on the other serpent, her mind churning with hundreds more of questions.
The first, mainly, was that grass grew rationally towards sources of lights, did they not? Perhaps it was simple instinct, or a hard coded behavior in their structure, but it seemed rational to Grassy and she had simply assumed that rationality was a thing in all creatures. Perhaps it was not. She was still young, inexperienced, how was she to know?
For now, the delicate blade of grass simply took the answer as the truth. It seemed quite rational, but for now it was safe to assume that both of them were going to give this topic a bit more thought later.
A dilemma indeed.

Egahi felt the sides of her mouth part ever so slightly, her own first smile a gift to Grassy. She stole a glance at the smaller green slither, beginning to find herself enjoying the company of this one. Perhaps she would pointedly not eat her. Possibly perfect. As Grassy posed more questions, specifically about Canis, she gave a small bob of her head. Ahh, Canis. It was certainly home, to her. Everything about it felt right, especially the clan she was still introducing herself to. "The Bonebound... lives there. I am apart of them... now. Still new... but pleased." She slowed herself a bit, feeling as if she may be going too fast for Grassy. "There is... many things. More than I can... properly describe." For some reason unbeknownst to her, Egahi found she was holding a tiny bit of hope that Grassy may find herself within the Bonebound as well. Unfortunately, the previously mentioned rationality she held onto even tighter knew better. Grassy was named for what she needed to call home. Canis definitely did not fit the expectation and imagery Egahi had for her. ---- "Speech." Thoughts. OOC: out of character Tag: @Grassy |
