It had felt the shift and the pulls a long time ago; the force of the world around them rocking and moving as if it were encountering an earthquake. They didn't know how long ago that was now - to them, it felt like an eternity had came and went already. Even so, it had almost been as if a lesson had been taught and engraved into their mind.
For days now, the chrysalis swelled in preparation to break. The creature inside however, was hesitant. They stared into the darkness at the walls that contained them, weary of the world outside and the shaking earthquakes it might contain. Something, however, had changed in them this day.
As the orbs of light began to dim down, the creature within the chrysalis stirred with new-found confidence. It listened for mere moments, before it's neck turned and craned in the cramped space of the chrysalis and suddenly thrust forwards.
The tough little nubs growing out from their head cracked against the solid wall of the chrysalis; immediately to crooked holes appeared within the smooth emerald stone, expanding and cracking as the head was removed from. It watched for a moment, as the fading light began to leak into the darkness.
Another shove to the wall of the chrysalis called the green stone to crumple and collapse on itself, causing the stocky, small figure to tumble out from it's prior home. It croaked and it chirped quizzically, lying on their belly with all four legs outstretched.
It was quiet for a moment longer, before it clucked contentedly. It lifted itself up, knees shaking weakly, as it gazed upon something that the shattered chrysalis had been next to. A pile of rocks, surrounded by sweet-smelling flowers and plants. Somewhere there was an opening, shrouded by thick vines.
They didn't quite know the significance of all of this, or the two shattered rocks near by - coloured reds, blues and greens - but for now, it didn't matter. They had to figure out what was going on.
