ORIGIN - Through Death's Eyes

Things had been rather quiet for Gigatsuhali, not that the bird was necessarily complaining. It meant she wasn't having to witness something terrible, even if she was keeping an eye out for it. If it was there, she wanted to be the one to find it. And as she began to find the air easier to navigate, the world grew a little bigger. She could still not pick up from the ground and her ability to turn sharp was all but existent, but she was seeing more from a place she had dreamed of.

The Fairy perched herself atop a tree, which had many barren branches, but expressed it's strength through others that thrived in green. From there, she viewed the area, signing contentedly at the beauty of her newest surroundings. She'd heard in the wind that it was called Cetus. The ground was blanketed in a thick fog, but the way the trees lingered and rocks jutted about made it a scene that would remind most of mountains, had they ever gotten to see them.

What a wonderful place. There's so many things to see in this labyrinth of rooms.

Now, Gigatsuhali Yinehi looked for movement, hoping to spot gembounds who wandered. She desired company and conversation. Anyone would do, really. She found herself interested in what anyone had to say, no matter how bad or good it was. There was various personalities and unusual pieces in everyone. To her, the magic was in more than just their spells and gemstones. Such made the corners of her mouth tip up, making her smile in her birdish way.

Diánysma had recovered from yet another infectious disease and had contained it safely within her rapidly growing store of clay pots and jars and boxes. Parchment was now strewn all about, covered in notes written in all manner of medium, albeit flint or charcoal. All of it was in scripture inspired by Greek, but of course, it wasn't exactly the same. The plague vector had come up with her own sort of writing system. But for today, those notes and her abode were abandoned in favor of some rather hesitant exploration. She sought more strains of bacteria, and she had heard of a swampy room. Surely there would be potential within all the muck and mire.

On graceful wings, the plague vector flew, now fully capable of flight. It did not take long to find the thickly-fogged room. When she arrived, she immediately called upon her magicka, beckoning it forth in surging waves to offer her sight into the prokaryotic world...

... but of course, her stone decided otherwise. A pain akin to one thousand watts of electricity surged through the pale raven for a split second. She bit back a shriek of pain, watching her world spin about her. She fell for only a moment, before managing to find stability again and hover in place, panting heavily. Her cinnabar heart marking almost tingled, as if laughing at her cruelly. She tried again.

With her second attempt, there was success. Brilliant success. The cinnabar heart marking upon her breast shimmered and crackled with live energy as her eyes shifted to allow her sight into the prokaryotic world. The concentration of bacterial life was average, and higher concentrations meant living beings. Most were obviously just mortal creatures, coated with both positive and negative bacteria. But one cluster... it made her curious. A swarm of nothing but positive bacteria, green-tinted white dots amidst the thick, billowing plumes of fog. It was disgusting. It meant that it was someone else with Panoúkla's blessing, like the fox, Belladonna, Khloros, and herself. But they... they were using it in ways that it was never intended. Ways that it never should be used. To avoid death and plague altogether. A disgrace. Diánysma knew that she'd make sure that this foul traitor would know of their mistake.

The pale raven flapped her wings, diving towards the swarm of positive bacteria and stopping just within a few feet as her spell faded, revealing the form of a bird much larger than her, one that looked like it should be spreading disease. She was thoroughly repulsed. "How dare you?" she hissed, pale beak clacking as she perched atop a nearby branch. "Panoúkla did not give you their blessing to use in this... shameful display! Do you have any idea what you are doing?! You should be one of their vectors, not their destroyers!" Her feathers ruffled and puffed up, inflating the angry corvid to twice her size. "You must explain yourself, traitor."

Gigatsuhali was relaxed, pleasant in emotion and quiet by being. She'd began preening, cleaning every feather and straightening out and misshapes in the way they should be. Her feathers were typically in prime condition, but it wasn't from lack of effort, so she touched them up thoroughly. As she worked on her chest, fluttering drew her attention from the action, head lifting and eyes searching. A white shape captured her gaze, landing nearby.

Words of anger plowed into Giga, eyes blinking in bemusement as Dianysma jumped all over her case involving... well, Panoúkla, whoever the heck that was. Vector? Destroyer? Yinehi was not sure what she was destroying, having done nothing but help and heal when she could. Yet, the puffed up crow seemed to be convinced that Giga was worthy of an ass chewing, which left the bird perplexed.

"I am sorry," she said sweetly, "I don't know how I have wronged you, but I am quite sorry. Could you perhaps... clarify? How am I a traitor? Who is Panoúkla?"

The large raptor tipped her head a little, blue eyes shining her confusion and wonder.

As she belted out a stream of insults and indignance, the plague vector noticed that the fairy vulture was, indeed, confused. Uneducated. Ignorant. That saccharine voice already pestered Diánysma, and she hopped closer and flapped her wings in frustration. "You know naught of Panoúkla? No wonder their vessel has chosen to ignore you. You've betrayed the Plague God, and have shamed their name using the prokaryotic world wrongfully. Traitor. Filth."

The pale raven flapped her wings, then remembered. She still had something. Something that she could show her. Something... deadly. Diánysma smoothed her feathers out and stared at the earth, approaching. "Excuse my short-lived fury, dear," she crooned darkly, "here, have a gift to make up for it." Her stone began to glow, calling upon something deadly and dangerous to pass onto a soon-to-be disciple of Panoúkla. Surely, they'd see the potential of death and plague to be used for good.

Bacteria was drawn to her maw, welling up into a thick mucus within her saliva. Once she was a few inches from the vulture, she spat in her face. "I hope you appreciate my gift, filthy traitor." With that, she took off, fleeing into the thick fog.

As Dia's flurry of insults were slung, Giga stared, taken-aback. Then, the fanciful words Plague God rang in her mind. She narrowed her eyes at the white bird and observed her with sharp eyes. Something felt wrong her, something that reminded her of walking away from Hasira. It was a very bad feeling. Something her gut twisted, but her heart held her strong. Even as Dianysma began to approach, she only stepped back once.

Just as that beak parted to spit, she reacted, the spit flying toward her face. She turned it, but some still slathered against her beak, becoming a risk of ingestion. Another drop slid into her nostril, and a slime of it caught her eyelid. It was disgusting and putrid, the smell worse than any rotting corpse. She was frozen in place, mortified by the disgust of the act; and the disgust of what was on her face.

As feather fluttered, disappearing into the air, Giga lowered her head, tipping the contaminated side toward the ground. Gingerly, she scraped and wiped away what she could with her foot, shuddering a little.

With no hesitation now, Gigatsuhali sparked her white sense, searching frantically for what was in this disgusting fluid. It smelled too heavily of death and disease to be safe. What she found made her shudder even harder. Bubonic plague. She opened her wings and took off from her branch, flying toward the nearest source of water she could find.

Gigatsuhali crashed into the middle of the water, drowning her face with it and shaking her head profusely. She needed this to get off and now. It was beyond wrong, horrible, disturbing. So, so disturbing, gross, yuck. After scratching at herself and washing beyond reason, she wobbled from the water, face bleeding. She prayed she was not infected, hoped deeply that she was not sick, now.

With every ounce of power she could muster in the moment, she pushed forth her ability to heal, hoping she could work herself into health, just to be safe. She brought forth both of her viruses, all the fighting bacteria she could, and a touch of hope to hold it tight. It seemed to work, whatever was there. Her body was finally able to relax, mind settling from the panic that had rushed through her. She sighed heavily, trying to slow her heart, now. She was safe. She was alive.

The Fairy Vulture looked to the sky and stared, a little bit of anger burning in her eyes. She went to the nearest tree and struggled to climb it. When high enough, she spread her wings and flew off, keen sight seeking any sign of the disgusting bird, but to no avail. She seemed gone at the speed of light, although there was only darkness within her. So Gigatsuhali landed on a new perch; a half-gone, totally dead tree that was merely a horizontal log. Her eyes were peeled, now. Watching and praying, to who... she wasn't sure, yet.
