A soft humming came from the tall fern bushes. Paws stepped lightly, traveling in a relaxed pace as they carried the large wolfess along her way. Multi-colored eyes watched ahead of her, never straying from the small form that jumped and ran in front of her. Emotions filled her, sent her in a spiraling daze as all she could do was stare in wonder. The creature ran on the strangest of legs. His front legs adorned small, fluffy wings. His hind legs seemed normal, but behind them was the longest tail she had ever seen. It wasn't even the length that had stunned her, but the feathers that lined the tip. Her eyes drew over the ever growing set of wings just upon his shoulders only to slip up to ponder over the halo of what she had to guess as bone. She knew, though she could not see it just yet, that just below the halo was a mask of the same bone. A face was upon that bone, but no eyes opened from the bone. No, her child definitely did not have the most 'ordinary' eyes. He bore a single one. An eye such a bright cyan that rested smack dab in the middle of his chest.

He was a creature like no other. He was perfection. He was her son, the one thing she lived for. Arkrael pushed her ears forward as the young pup suddenly went tumbling right over his own paws. An urge to call out to him, to quicken her pace quickly filled her. Yet she did not move her paws any quicker. The pup rose to his paws without a complaint and merely continued his way, prancing his way to The Eyes. A relieved smile curled across her weary features. "Sal, you did really good with your tracking today," She couldn't help but praise the pup as she picked up her pace to bring her along side him.

'Yes! Very good Sal! Very good,'

Pheo's voice pierced her thoughts quickly and Rae turned her gaze up to see the fully grown dragonbat come swooping in from the tree tops. Another warm smile greeted her familiar. "Pheo thinks so too."

The day had started off as it usually did. His mom hunted for breakfast and he stood back in the bushes to wait. Watching every movement that she made so that he would some day be just as good as her. His single eye was open wide, the pupil in a thin strip in an alert way. They were now off to The Eyes so that he may get a drink from the cool pools. That didn't mean he couldn't play along the way though. One hop after the other, Sal followed the indented marks of feet long since traveled this particular path that wound it's way through Eridanus. Oh, how he loved this lush, vibrant place. Yet the stories his mother had spoken of other places within the cave always taunted his curiosity. One day he would go and see them for himself, but he couldn't just yet.

His mother's voice pulled him from his whirling thoughts and his masked face turned to peer sightlessly up at him as a wide smile quickly came across his muzzle. "Ya, but. I know Pheo's scent mom! He is so easy to find," He exasperated as he swung his long tail around behind him. Even as he spoke this he could smell Pheo coming in closer. "When do you think I'll be able to do those small earthquakes like you do mum?!" His voice was eager, his ever growing wings spreading out with his excitement only to fold back neatly against his sides.
