Fisher hadn't been able to shake the dread growing in his bones. Deus' stone had grown to full size and stopped, as though it was waiting for a sign. Though the noodle was reluctant to leave his home and his family in Polaris, he knew that Black and Fallah would take care in his absence. This was simply something the mustelid had to do.
Walking through Orion reminded him of a violent, painful youth. The stars glistened above the fisher cat, reflected on his silver armor. Arkrael's craftsmanship had become a comfortable, reassuring blanket on his back, as natural an extension as his own body. Memories washed over him as he made the short trip around the city, the distant tower reminding him of the King of Shadows that haunted his dreams as a child. The ruins still clung to the smell of cervinae, the smoking ashes of a war fresh in the history of the sparkling cavern.
It did not take long for Fisher to find Tunnel K, the place that felt uncomfortable to step into. He rarely came here, only under urgency of finding his friends did he dare move through the still, uncomfortable tunnel. The first time had been for Fallah, and this time, it was for a gem who could still be called King. So many had fallen, but not him.
At least, as far as the mustelid knew. His metal shuttered and scrapped, clunking as he crept through the dark tunnel, pressing on despite the uncomfortable feeling. It had been all too long, and with so many gembounds, including Diamondfang gone, he needed to make sure. There was a faint hope that Cancer was still living among the Bonebound, but he knew the cat's habits. The usual scent markers he had come to expect when traveling through a place Cancer belonged were practically non-existant in their staleness.
A glisten of stone stopped the noodle in his tracks. Shards of red and gold-- Kerberos, Fisher reasoned. He knew of the giant dog, and that was his stone. Perhaps he had children, or... Or...
Fisher could smell the passing scent of dog-- but here, among the shards of mookaite-- it smelled distinctly like cat. Fisher's fur prickled under his metal shell as he realized there was aquamarine pieces scattered about as well. Instantly his mind flew to Makyna; it had been cycles since he had been to Pisces, had seen her. Had something happened to her as well? Or had the two of them...
None of it made sense, though. Why here in Tunnel K, instead of in Canis or Pisces? Why would their shards be here, and... The fisher inhaled, exhaled. Cancer couldn't be dead; Makyna was home safe with Leon. The smell of leopard was distinct, a memory of a night by a roaring waterfall buzzing in the back of his mind.

For some odd reason, Azazel found himself often revisiting the site—the site of those considered dead and gone to others for all intents and purposes—of mookaite and aquamarine shards. Even after two (almost three) cycles, they were still scattered haphazardly about, sharp edges gleaming with condensation. The golems still had not been around to gather the pieces up. Each time he visited, he was half-tempted to take up at least one of the pieces and keep it in his nest alongside the other stones he so fiercely defended.
If the lammergeier were to grab the stones, they would join two amethysts and a jadeite stone. Both amethysts were illuminated in a bright glow. Somehow, Azazel just knew that's what they would've wanted, so he had asked Bones to bauble them. He would've revived them and just tried to bring them back, but he just couldn't bring himself to. Perhaps he should finally let go of his past loves and deceased young.
Krakarak was gone, and there was no way to ever bring him and his pleasantly raucous voice back. Liora was gone, and there was no way to bring back her bratty princess-y attitude that he lovrd so dearly back. Tahlia and the mystery surrounding her would never be back. He hardly knew the one who had died and was reborn as Tahlia. He'd known Tahlia even less, for she seemingly disappeared for cycles after the trio were born. Azazel knew it had been her stone that he'd discovered in the central pool; the same place where Artemïs had passed.
So, here he was, once again, perched upon a higher-up rock shelf on the wall, staring at the mist-shrouded graves he had created. In the ruins of Carcino's stone's shell lay a large dragon scale with a faded symbol painted onto it in bright red pigment. Azazel knew that had been his shoulderpad, and that had been his symbol. It was the best he could do to honor the man that Cancer was, even if the world seemed to be against him. Mau's grave was simply a cat skull with ancient turquoise and aquamarine stones in the eye sockets.
In the thick blanket of fog that seemed to be constant in Tunnel K, Azazel could just barely see a figure moving. The motion was quickly matched with metallic clanging. The cat-skull-crowned king moved and squinted harder. The figure was brown and oddly familiar in shape. Flapping great wings, he silently glided towards it and landed about four feet away from Fisher. At first, he was confused. The mustelid was staring at the two shattered chrysalides with a panicked expression upon his armored face. Without meaning to, Azazel's stone glowed as he tried to reach into the noodle's mental noodle.
Without much effort, his stone worked its magic and allowed him a quick glimpse into Fisher's mind which was, indeed, in overdrive trying to come up with an explanation and denial. Well, he was half-right in one of them being dead and denying it. He wasn't sure of the whereabouts of Makyna. Slowly, Azazel scooted closer and finally spoke."I'm sure Makyna isn't dead." Azazel sighed and hopped closer, taking one of the aquamarine shards into his talons and turning it so that the dim lights made it shimmer, "the belong to someone else... Mau. Did you know her?" Slowly, he glanced at the mookaite shards and whispered, "I'm sorry... but you're right on the other one."

The sound of feathers on heavy wings had alerted Fisher of the bird before he even landed, in fact, he knew the wing beats by heart. As such, he hardly responded, just standing still by the stones, distraught and quiet as Aza'zel took place next to him. He could feel, for a moment, a bizarre prodding into his mind, and had he not been so choked up, he might have tried to fight off the invasion. Instead, the noodle raised his head, gazing towards the man of feathers and fluff-- the King of Bones, regal as always. It had been cycles since they had last saw each other, and he wanted to peel out of his armor and bury himself in the comfort of an old friend.
But... No, that wasn't going to happen. Fisher's legs went numb as Aza'zel spoke, calm and confident, speaking of a creature named Mau. The name was naggingly familiar, and he would have perhaps remembered the kitten who he had saved at her birth with Black and Fallah's trusty aid... If only the lammergeier had given him a second to process that before telling him something that struck him hard and painfully in the chest.
And as Fisher stood there, absorbing the knowledge, he felt the weight of the facts consume him. Cancer had always seemed so invincible-- he had taken on Leon, the great Raheerah, had the whole caves against him... And then, in the blink of an eye, he was gone. Fisher hadn't seen him since Hasira's death, where the cat had nearly... Was it magic? Had he finally overloaded? The thought sent a chill down his spine.
@Azazel ; i hadn't seen you finish this tag??? wowza... POKE ME NEXT TIME YA NERD,
