The wolf had lingered at the entrance to this cave before, cowering down at the sound of the winds howling beyond, and fearing what lay there. But since making the long journey back to her birthplace, Kin-Kin realized that if she was truly to become who she craved and dreamed of being, she'd have to face that primal fear of the howling sounds beyond.
As her heart pounded strongly within her breast, it was almost as though this was the final test. She'd never trained here before, and it was as though there was an actual opponent here. Cycles spent clawing at rocks and playing tug-o-war with tree roots maybe hadn't been the kind of training she'd hoped for. But she hadn't had anyone to race, wrestle, or even debate for a lot of that time; it had seemed for all the world that the cave systems had left her on her own. And yet, it seemed things were looking up. Not even a cycle ago she'd met not one, but two others! What a change!
Kin-Kin couldn't really do much to cheer herself up but in her mind's eye she knew that when the time came, she would be prepared. Given time, the caves would know her name. She would assure that, but she knew that she had to be the one to set her story in motion.
To do that, she had to handle anything.
Sucking in her breath, the wolf moved forward, and within a few steps she was in the open. The wind went from a gentle breeze to yanking at her cloak in an instant. The fabric flapped and pulled as it tried to escape, and Kin-Kin was forced to stoop low to the ground to avoid the tearing wind. She breathed deep and fast, her gaze darting, as she looked for a goal to make. Something to get to that would serve as a suitable test...

One journey wasn't enough, he had to find out about this whole place, although there was a sinking feeling that he wouldn't like it all, and so far these feelings had served him well so he wasn't about to ignore them now. He couldn't tell anyone what it was that was making him feel like this, it couldn't be his mind's voice because there was no sound in his thoughts, it was just a feeling, a gnawing at his chest, the same feeling he got around others, something telling him that he couldn't trust anybody.
Since he had...hatched, as he thought it was called, the shadow pup had not stopped moving, albeit he kept to the shadows, or close to the edges of the walls as possible. His black fur always brushing up against the cold grey stone, careful not to press his whole side against it though. He had done that just a few steps back and it brought a flash of pain to his side, a whimper had tried to escape but he pushed it back down. Nothing got past his lips unless he wanted it to.
Zaire's body stilled at a new sound, a roar, loud and dangerous. He was drawn to it, pushed closer to it's loud screams, wanting to know where the thundering bellows were coming from, and god did he wish it spelled trouble. Ever since hatching, everything was so damn boring, there was no fun around, maybe it was because his dark mind had made him grow up quite quickly, not thinking he was better than others but that he was stronger than the ones around his age, yet he hadn't met any so far. He wanted to though, not to get to know them, hell no, but to prove them how strong he actually was, how he could beat them easily. Little did he know that arrogance will get him nowhere, unless dying counts.
His paws carried him towards the sound, getting louder the more steps he took, reaching the edge of what looked like the start of a tunnel, but the inside did not look like a tunnel, it wasn't narrow and long like the ones he had been through. Oh well. The shadow pup had reached the border just before Kin-Kin had, not seeing her form as it entered. There was a large, full of excitement and pure danger, grin engraved on his face. Energyadrenaline was flowing through his veins as he took as step in, ravishing in the way the wind almost knocked his small puppy figure over. It felt menacing, ready to attack, and like it could do much more than what it had already started. Now this would be fun.

As she stood, tall and strong in the tearing winds, Kin-Kin could feel her cloak pulling and flapping against her back and the wind battering swathes of dust against her body. Her golden fur rippled, following the wind's path as well. Her ears were flattened against her skull, but its roar was still louder than ever.
As she pushed on into the wind, the wolf became vaguely aware of a figure just ahead of her. a small, black figure. Like herself, only darker. Kin-Kin tilted her head, and, getting used to the wind's violent pull, she pushed ahead so that she soon caught up to the pup thanks to her long legs and rippling muscles.
"I didn't think this was a playground!" she called jokingly, over the sound of the wind. Now that she was sort-of used to the wind's pressure and the feeling of her cloak flapping, she figured that she might as well have a bit of fun. Besides, she didn't think this was the place for a little pup. "If ya wanna train for this, try climbing walls first!"
She let out a laugh. Climbing walls. They were wolves, not mountain goats! But still, that had never stopped her. Many falls later, here she was. Battling the winds that she'd been so scared of as a cub.
It was funny, coming back to find another pup...
Kin-Kin thought of herself as an adult. She'd spent so long on her own that she didn't know any better; and she felt that she behaved like an adult, anyway. She felt grown-up as grown up could be, and it was unlikely that she'd change. But unfortunately for her, she was only on the very cusp of adulthood. A teenager, if you will. And a rather rowdy one at that...
Standing tall now in the wind, Kin-kin had intentionally placed herself between the pup and the wind, taking the brunt of it full-force to the back, though she pretended not to have noticed. watching the little creature with an eyebrow raised, Kin-Kin tried not to appear mocking but maybe it was just a little bit too tempting.
"What's your name, then?" she asked, straight to the point.
"Listen to me."

If his fur hadn't been connected to him by his skin, the shadow pup knew that it would have been torn away, stolen by the ferocious winds that he would love to call his friend. It was far from an enemy at least, strong and determined, something the pup seemed to like, For now though, his black fur would just be pushed the way the wind was heading, claws digging into the ground so that it did not take his young body with it, he was stronger then what this was, right? It was invisible, a hand you could not see, where as he was there, a solid form, the pup at least thought he could stand against it's strong hand.
Zaire still could not sense the other in the cave, his mind was set on one thing and that one thing was punching his body from one side and trying to pull him somewhere he did not want to go. It was wondrous really, how this thing was so strong yet it wasn't even therem not in his mind. It could not been seen, nor
The sound of a new voice made his ears flick yet he did not look startled, even if he was not fully aware of his surroundings before. The pup's claws only dug deeper into the ground."Playground? Not playing, that stupid, you play cause stupid?"The pup would copy the way she spoke, trying to fight the sound of the wind, although his voice was more calm, emotionless than her joking one. He had not turned his head to look at who spoke, he knew she were taller, the voice coming from higher up than what he was standing, but that did not bother him. A playground was a new word but it wasn't hard to guess, play ground, easy, though he did not understand why she thought that that he thought it was one, he wasn't there to play, that would have been a waste of time, although he was probably right in his prediction; She could have been there to play, to waste her time, because it was a stupid thing to do. "Don't want to train, just do. If climb first them climb sound easy, you do easy, me do hard." He used no insulting tone, no tone actually, like however he spoke or whoever it was to, his voice remained dead. How dare she think that he would want to train for something, no, he would go straight in and do it. Why would you train when if you can learn from just acting, the older ones were all so complicated.
Another sound left the lips of whoever this thing was, now he would turn his head slowly to look at her. She looked similar to him in the way their body was shaped, except she was taller and of a different colour, with something flapping in the wind behind her. It looked terrible and unhelpful, how could she possibly fight with that on? Did everyone have to have one? Bones didn't, neither did his brother. Why was she different to them yet looked similar to him and Bones? But what was that sound, and why was she making it?
Too many questions.
His own sound formed when he watched her body stand in front of his, stopping the blows from the wind, something he liked and she just stripped it away from him. A growl emitted from his throat, he had perfected that noise, it seemed he was always making it. She needed to move, she was taking away something that was not hers, she could not control something this powerful, could she?
Even though his body wasn't taking the full force of it, he still felt the wind against his fur, but it was weaker. Moving to stand in a defensive position, something that just came naturally, the basics of defence: Ears back against skull, lips pulled up into a snarl and to show milky white yet razor sharp teeth, legs slightly bent and eyes narrowed, but that's all that happened, he did not know if that was the only defence but it was the only one that came instinctively. All he wanted was the wind and for her to move, standing in front of him was as if she was saying he wasn't strong enough.
"Move!" There was no bark of anger, just a snarl of a simple word. Did she always steal what was not hers to take? He just stared at her for a moment or two when she asked for his name though, before finally answering, well speaking. "What yours?" He would not tell her his, not now, not yet.

It didn't seem like the pup could talk yet. Only insult. How cute. Kin-Kin rolled her eyes and swung her hips. "Puh-lease..." she drawled, flicking her furry tail, allowing the pup full view of the contempt in her words. "No stupid. You stupid!" Wow. She'd really let herself stoop that low? Wow.
She didn't laugh at her own antics like she usually did.
Instead, she allowed the wind to roar at her back, considering returning to train some other day. The winds didn't seem too strong today, anyway. Not as strong as she wanted them to be. This was no trial, this was a catwalk. Especially if a little pup could do it so easily... Competitive edge sharp, Kin-Kin could have very easily left the pup to the mercy of the winds, but she didn't. "You'll get yourself a nasty surprise if you go ahead like that." the she-wolf said, rolling her eyes. Playing was the very first kind of training of one's life. That first tussle, those first races... they'd prepare one for life out in the wilds. In her youth, Kin-Kin hadn't anyone to play with, so she made her own fun. She trained herself.
Kin-Kin still liked to play, though not quite in the same sense of the word. Her kind of fun was a lot more aggravating.
Still stood in place blocking off that powerful wind, Kin-Kin watched them getting annoyed already, and lifted her lip in a smirk. She didn't quite know why this was so satisfying... perhaps it was their aloof attitude. The delusion they seemingly had that they owned the world and everyone in it. Maybe she just wanted to show them that she, obviously, could do better. "That doesn't sound like respect for your elder," she chuckled lightly in her singsong tone and remained right where she was. Except, she sat down. They asked a demanding question. One that Kin-Kin understood, but felt like making fun of anyway. This would be fun... "My what? Are you hitting on me, little guy?"
Finally, Kin-Kin laughed.
"Listen to me."

Zaire moved out of his defensive stance when she spoke again, she would not hurt him as far as he could guess. His body was like it was before, tense and with his guard up, claws stuck into the ground. She could not possibly be a threat, not yet anyway, although the annoyance from her blacking his way was still there only hidden behind an emotionless like everything else. "Maybe true, but me hatched not long go, you look older." Yes, he could quite possible be stupid, although it was a horrible comeback on her grounds, but he had only hatched days before where as her height and well build made her look older. If he was stupid it was due to a lack of inexperience, she couldn't possibly say the same.
His small shoulders would rise in a shrug at her next set of words, he could do what he wanted, and he did when others didn't stop him. Although, maybe she brought up a good thing, if this was so easy she could train him here. Teach him to fight. "Never said didn't like surprise" He spoke without even knowing what he was talking about, a surprise? He did not even know what that was. "This look easy for you," He glanced at the way she she was taking the brute force of the wind. "Teach to fight here?" He had not spoken like it was a question, but it was.
She smirked at him, only aggravating the pup even more. "Respect earned." And she clearly had not earned his respect just like he had not earned hers. He was correct though, respect and trust could not just be given away, others had to do something to earn it. "Name." It was simple what he had asked her, why was she making it so complicated? "Hitting on you?" He would repeat, what the hell was that? His eyes had followed her as she sat down, flashing very briefly with annoyance at the nickname 'little guy'.
