Paws dragged over the ground, barely lifting in it's gate to carry him across the foliage. There was a few times the creature nearly tumbled over something that his paw just couldn't be lifted over. Wings were half folded, half slumped along his sides as his tail seemed lifeless as it dragged across the ground. It had only been, what..., two...three days now that he found his mother in her chrysalis? It seemed like such an eternity to him. He hadn't left the chrysalis. Never leaving as he kept himself tightly tucked into the side of the beautiful opal. He would have stayed there for as long as he could have, but the rumbling in his stomach that was slowly turning into a painful ache drew the hybrid away from his slumbering mother.

He had to get some food. As the hours continued to sweep by it only seemed to make his hunger grow and eventually Salethyr had convinced himself he had to go and find at least something to eat. The iris of his cyan eye had remained in it's X shape since for two days now, but it wasn't something he was aware of at the time. It just didn't feel right. There hadn't been a day he had gone, outside of his mother being in her weird stage and having left, that he had been away from his mother. It left him feeling rather lost and unsure what to do. He had no idea if his mother was even still...alive...

He shook his head almost violently as his lips peeled back into a snarl. No, he would not believe that one bit! She was alive and she would be out of that damned opal! But...when? He sniffled at his own thoughts before finally bringing himself to look up from his paws. His mother wouldn't want him wallowing in self pity. He needed to find food for himself and get back to the opal chrysalis. He focused quickly the way his mother had instructed. Calling upon the earthen magic he had been blessed with to assist him in finding those nearby.

He felt the humming of his gem and within a moment felt more than just one gem bound around. He gasped to himself, overwhelmed by the sensations that consumed him. He had never been able to use that skill so blatantly well before. His mother would have been proud of him. The thought of that nearly brought tears to his eye, but he had to shake them away as he took note of the much stronger vibration of a gembound near by. His head shifted, looking off to the side as his single eye turned in the movement. "H-hello?" He called, wondering to himself if it was that leopard that had come by a few times to check on his mother and him as well. He wasn't well off in his magic to know the difference between other gembounds gem's and the personal vibrations that belonged to their gem like his mother was just yet, but he would be there eventually. For now, his curiosity pulled him towards where the gembound may be lingering.

[32] But I must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing of a pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of the truth, the master-builder of human happiness. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful. Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences, or one who avoids a pain that produces no resultant pleasure?

[33] On the other hand, we denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who are so beguiled and demoralized by the charms of pleasure of the moment, so blinded by desire, that they cannot foresee the pain and trouble that are bound to ensue; and equal blame belongs to those who fail in their duty through weakness of will, which is the same as saying through shrinking from toil and pain. These cases are perfectly simple and easy to distinguish. In a free hour, when our power of choice is untrammeled and when nothing prevents our being able to do what we like best, every pleasure is to be welcomed and every pain avoided. But in certain circumstances and owing to the claims of duty or the obligations of business it will frequently occur that pleasures have to be repudiated and annoyances accepted. The wise man therefore always holds in these matters to this principle of selection: he rejects pleasures to secure other greater pleasures, or else he endures pains to avoid worse pains.
