Kallista hummed in thought as Todd spoke. There may be two of them, but would that be enough? What if...What if they had gathered others to fight with them? She had no doubt that they would kill without hesitation. What if they had gotten their paws on a stone? What if they would have a companion from that that would fight with them? She sighed. Maybe she and Todd were the stupid ones.

"How w-would you hurt them? They'd just h-hurt you..," Kallista whispered. Her own ears were lowered as well as she leaned slightly against Todd. She didn't want to see him hurt. Not again. He hadn't even fully recovered yet! If they came across the other...Something terrible would happen. She might lose him.

"Let's...j-just hope they don't come back. Maybe someone e-else will give them the treatment they d-deserve," Kallista murmured. She looked up at the fox briefly before looking down. What if they met the caracal cycles from now? When both of them were healthier? Stronger? Could they attack them then? Would they remember her? Would they fight even harder? Would she and Todd ever have any chance of actually winning a battle against the caracal? Or were they doomed to live in constant fear? There's no way they had any chance of winning now. But maybe, in the future, there was a chance.

Todd thought deeply, falling silent for a while. "I'll... I'll... I'll practice! I'll get all those spells that we never got. And then I'll shove them all in their face! I'll rip both their eyes out!" the fox declared, stamping his bejeweled paw on the ground with a clang. And then he looked down at it, at his stiff, sharp claws. Something caused his chest to tighten for a moment. Maybe he could use that! It was sharp!

"I know I can do it. You'll see!" He lashed his bushy tail, lifting each forepaw in turn. Clink, tap, clink, tap...

"If they do, then we can make them hurt even more and there ain't anything they can do about it." Todd reveled in the idea in his mind as he bared his teeth in a grin. Images filled his mind of what he could do. With his magic he could fling them off a cliff, or against a wall! Or he'd rip their eyes out with his pretty paw. maybe being painted red would make it even prettier...

Or he could call back. Those dark fantasies slowly became bitter rage that turned in his belly. He remembered the pain shooting through him, the burning flesh, the smell of smoke...

He could do that.

That was magic.

He'd just need to find those remnants of it that clung to his memories.

The fox shook his head. There were other things to attend to first.

"Are you hungry, Kallista?"

Kallista lowered her ears as Todd spoke. Maybe if they got some spells...But who knows how long that would take? She blinked as he said that he'd rip both their eyes out. "T-that's a bit far, don't you t-think?" She watched as he bared his teeth in a grin. There seemed to be something slightly off about him, and she looked a tad wary. It soon disappeared, however.

Kallista shifted a little. "Y-yeah, I am hungry," she murmured. She wanted to be able to hunt for herself, but she was still tired from the battle and she just wanted to stay lying down.

Todd didn't see what was wrong with that; they'd done the same with her! They'd taken her eye! And Todd was going to get them back for that! "Nope! They deserve it," the fox said confidently, with a snort. "Just look at what they did to you!"

Todd's face brightened, and he seemed to immediately forget about their former conversation at the mention of food. He wagged his bushy tail dramatically from side to side and grinned. "I'll find you food, Kallista! I'll get food for you!" he cried, flashing onto his paws and hopping, bouncing and prancing his way towards a nearby pond that was fed by the lagoon. "There'll be fish in here! I'm gonna get one for you!"

The silver fox crouched down beside the water's edge, his tail waving over his head. Ears twitching and gaze flickering, the fox was only still for a moment and then...

splash!

he plunged into the water face first and there was a barrage of bubbles. The water was shallow enough for him to stand, but that didn't stop Todd looking pathetic as he scrambled out of the water with a fish in his jaws, having clearly forgotten that maybe, just maybe, water is wet.

Kallista shifted. Did they deserve it? They had only ripped one of her eyes out...Would she even be able to face them again, after what they had done to her? They weren't sure. At the moment, certainly not. But maybe in the future...? She sighed. Part of her just wanted to forget what had happened, but she knew she'd never be able to do that.

When Todd began to go hunt, she found herself giving a small smile. He seemed so excited, so happy to hunt for her. She felt a bit guilty at making him hunt, but she pushed it aside. She was in no shape to hunt at the moment. She watched as he crouched beside the water's edge. When he plunged in without warning, she blinked in shock. When he came up with a fish, she chuckled. Slowly, she got up and began to walk closer a few paw steps before collapsing, her wounds screaming in anger. She winced, wishing the pain would just go away.
