clack, clack...

The sound was subtle, barely audioable over the roar of the rotating contraption churing the water in the chambers beyond. Among the ruins of the dam, where the golems once slumbered, lie a sky blue chrysalis. Its rough walls cradled a lifeform that once slept like the golem, but it too, had stirred to life. A blue light illuminated the inside, but only for a moment, revealing the shadowy form of a equine, forced into an unnatural fetal position as space in the chrysalis became sparse.

CRACK!

With one final shake, the chrysalis dislodged itself from its crevice, rolling down a slope of boulders, leaving behind a trail of shards as the egg-like stone slammed its body on to the hard surfaces. The hunk of angelite began to tumble violently as it gained speed, mercilessly battering the lifeform within. Weaken, the blue walls broke open with a piercing shatter, freeing its inhabitant. A flash of black and white stripes carried on the barbaric decent, its long legs flailing helplessly. Landing with a hard smack on its side, the striped creature's tumbling came to a halt as it slid close to the edge of a stream, pebbles following after. It laid there for a few heart beats, its chest rising rhythmically as it drew in fresh air, then, lifted its head off the cold, stone floor, scanning its new surrounding with confused, sky blue eyes.

Wha... what happen?

The striped one shook his head in a feeble attempt to unscramble his memory what just transpired. He did not know what he just did, but he felt like he could do it again. He remembered being cramped, his legs crying for movement, then sensing something.. strange, intriguing, something not like him, yet, he was of it. He could feel them all around him. Suddenly came the storm of pain that racked his entire body, and he opened his eyes, not to darkness, but to light.

Isn't it obvious? You hatched you big dumby.

The foal cocked his ears at the disembodied voice taking up resident in his head. "Woah, did I do that?" He gasped, looking back at the trail of angelite shards in his wake.

Yeah, made quite a mess there, tsk tsk, anyway, you should probably stand up now.

"Good idea." He replied before shifting his scraped legs underneath his body, hoisting his himself up. His knobby knees wobbled as he tried to decipher how to stand on thin legs longer than his body.

OOC: tagging Destiny but anyone can join in

Destiny was at first drawn away from the comfort of their warm little den by thirst. The little creature had waddled away, following the sounds of the rushing river and submersed her bill along with the spires where her eyes once were in the welcome cold. Then the new mother heard a familiar sound; a distant crack. She finished drinking and raised her head out of the water.

Our babies have hatched! This must be someone else...

Destiny's heart at first leaped, but then mellowed as she realized that they might be all alone out there. She had to find them! Fira could look after their two for a few minutes, she was sure. Destiny swung her head around as she tried to pinpoint the source of the sound, before focusing inward, into her gem.

She was met by a stinging headache as her powers stirred within her. In moments she felt them- a distant heartbeat, with vibrations stirring her fur and entereing through the tips of her toes. Her heart leaped. She could find them now!

Then without even wasting a second, the little lady waddled off to where she was sure the sound originated from, following their guiding heartbeat. Soon the cracking was replaced by a young voice, and Destiny struggled to quicken her pace, although she kept bumping beak-first into rocks and tripping on anything in her path.

She came to a slow halt and looked around- unbeknownst to her, she'd managed to wander between the newborn's spindly legs and was stood beneath them.

"Helloooo! A-are you there, little one?" She called, swinging her head around. "There's no need to be afraid of me... I'm just here to make sure you're okay, sweetie..."

sooner or later...

destiny catches up to you...

His ears picked up on another voice, this time, not of his mind. It seemed to come from down under. Suddenly, Kito felt something soft and warm brush up against his legs. He only managed to catch a glimpse of it before the thing knocked his hoof from under him. It looked like a furry rock, a furry rock that talked perhaps. Loosing his balance, the gangly zebra foal fell face first into the crystal clear stream below with a splash. He barely had time to scream "Aah!"

Wee!

The cold water engulfed his body, stinging his hide and sapping the energy from his limbs. Kito began to panic when it began to flood his nose.

This is not the same as air!

He kicked his legs wildly until they brought him to surface. With a powerful blast of air, water sprayed from his nostrils in a mist. Kito slapped the crystal water with his long legs, neck strained forward as he fought to keep himself afloat. Frantically paddling, he made his way back toward the bank. Hooves scraped at stone until he found his footing and pulled himself back onto land, water dripping from his drenched coat. Droplets flew from his striped hide as he shook himself dry.

What an odd rock...

Kito stretch his neck toward te furry stone that tripped him up and sniffed it. It did not smell like a rock, maybe it was an animal, like him. What kind? That he could not tell, but for some reason he wanted to call it a duck-beaver.

"Hey, you're funny lookin'!" He giggled.

She thought she felt them for a moment, bumping against her bill... but that didn't last long.

Destiny wasn't sure what went on next, but it sure as hell panicked her. The platypus heard a series of splashes and sounds, and she froze, swinging her head around wildly. Even that small motion was enough to send jolts of pain through her skull. "A-are you okay!?" she cried, breaking into a waddle towards where she could hear the splashing sounds. She hadn't wandered too far from the river after all...

But it wasn't the time for that.

Destiny's heart was in her mouth, she waddled as fast as her little legs would carry her until she finally plopped face-first into the water. But by the time she got there, they were gone. "H-hallo? Hellooooo?! a-are you here? or here, or--" she took a breath and dived under the water only to collide with the shallow bottom.

She scared herself with that. her heart was pounding. Finally she realized though, that she could find them! She was suddenly filled with determination.

In their moment of need, her powers came through. And it was at that moment she realized... they were already out of the water...

...Oh...

Destiny paddled back towards the shore, towards them, and hoisted herself onto the bank, as elegantly as a blind monotreme ever could. "A-are you okay?" she asked nervously, waddling forward. This time she kept a close ear on where they were. she could feel their heartbeat now, big and booming compared to her own. Yet still she worried.

She heard their young little voice breaking through the silence, and at that, her bill parted into a slight smile.

"Ahaha, that's me!" the platypus agreed. "Do you have a name? I'm Destiny. B-but you can call me anything. Even Momma, if you want!"

The little lady gave a giggle herself.

Kito playfully reared in excitement at the billed one's voice. It speaks! It speaks! He brought his front hooves down on the stone with a clop. What joy, to find another creature like him. He wondered what they would talk about.

"Momma Destiny?" He nickered, liking the way her name rolled off his tongue. Having a name must be nice. Kito could not remember his. Wait.

I vote we call him Simon.

Kito had a name and it was a good name. He could not wait to tell it to this nice lady. His bountiful foal energry bubbled up towards his mouth until he could not hold it in much longer. "Hi Momma, I'm Kito!" He brayed giddily, tossing his head. The zebra foal proceeded to bounce around Destiny, finally getting the hang of his skinny legs.

"It's so cool you can talk, I thought I was the only one!" The energetic foal stopped his shenanigans and came to face the cute little chimera. "Well, besides my head friends, of course, hey, are you like some kind of duck-beaver?"

@Destiny

Destiny felt the vibrations through the earth as the newborn's hooves clopped firmly down onto the ground, giving Destiny an insight as to what kind of creature they were. Not that she cared either way. In response, she lifted one big flipper after the other in what could have been taken as a slow yet happy little dance. She didn't know why but she wanted them to see that she was excited, too! They were showing it, so why shouldn't she?

Destiny opened her bill in a wide grin at their young voice speaking her name. She might have been small, and she might have been blind, but she still thought that they were very cute. "That's right!" She said excitedly. "That's me! Momma Destiny!" The lady felt those vibrations once as the foal's energy bubbled to the surface and they bounced around her. Destiny swung her head around as though looking for them, though she was really just trying to show off her beaky smile.

"K-Kito! What a lovely name!" she called happily, excitedly. Then she laughed as they declared they were surprised to find another who spoke like them. "We're not the only ones either!" She chirped excitedly. Oh, how she wanted to tell Kito about everyone now! She had so many friends! There was Fira and Atsila and White and Rimese and Fate and-... Oh, there were too many to count!

"There are many of us! I bet you'll meet all of them some day! You'll make so many friends and talk to so many. It's such a wonderful world, with so many different voices to hear..."

Destiny paused quizzically as they mentioned their head-friends, and gently tilted her own head. Destiny didn't know that one could have friends inside of themselves other than themselves! But she didn't doubt what they were saying. It must have been nice to be able to talk to someone even when there was no-one else there. Destiny would have loved that! Her face lit up with childish wonder. "I'm a platypus!" she told them. "But duck-beaver works too!"

She giggled.

"What are your head-friends like? Are they nice?"

There were more? Kito pawed at the ground excitedly upon hearing this wonderful news. He wanted to meet all of them! It would be wonder to hear to the voices of others for a change. He wondered of all of them were as nice as Momma Destiny the Duck-Beaver. He had sky high hopes that they were. Hanging out with others like him and not every second with the head-friends seemed that a grand ol' plan.

Kito flicked his ears towards Destiny when she asked him about the head-friends. He was happy that she asked. His noggin-amigos never asked about themselves. "Yes! Well.. sometimes." He answered, cocking his head. It was true, his head-friends weren't always "friends"."Sometimes they call me mean things, He wonder if friends were supposed to call each other names. Was that normal here? He perked up however, wanting the share the better side of the voices to Destiny. "But they help me out and keep me company when I'm lonely, so I don't mind it!" he chirped, his voice overflowing with optimism. "They're like, a voice in your head that's not yours, ya' know?"

Aw, how touching I'm flattered! Maybe we won't set you on fire after all!

Kito smiled and nodded at the voice. What was a fire? "You're welcome!" He blurted out loud, not realizing that other Gembounds could not hear them.

Boop her on the bill. Said another.

Without giving it a second thought, the little foal happily complied, reaching his muzzle down to gently bump it against Denstiny's bill.

Destiny listened patiently to the foal's words, although worry snuck into her as the little one told her that his 'head-friends' were sometimes mean to him. Destiny didn't want that... especially as she couldn't tell him to just walk away. You couldn't leave your own brain behind! Still, though... Destiny thought she could at least try to help and be motherly about this whole thing! That was what being a momma was about. Even when things got tough, you had to try.

"W-well... Just ignore them, when they're mean to you! If they're good friends, they don't actually mean it. Sometimes friends can say stupid things and think they're being funny," Destiny told the foal with a nod, and a smile. She marveled at how mature she sounded! She nodded at their question, sort-of understanding, even if she hadn't really felt it herself.

Then, Destiny felt their soft nose against her rubbery bill, which was enough to send the young mother into fits of giggles. Their nose was so soft! If it was their nose... she couldn't quite tell! She rather hoped it was their nose. What else would it be?

On second thoughts, she didn't really wanna know...

She shook her head, although that made her headache start up again. Flopping onto her belly as she waited for it to settle down, she muttered something inaudible as she tried to speak. "D-do you wanna come see my b-burrow? I live there with my mate Fira and our little ones!" she told them. "A-an' you can live there too if you wanna!"

Destiny grinned, opening her bill wide, and struggled onto her flippers.

She began to waddle towards where she knew the burrow was, wobbling and twitching all the way with pains. "O-on second thoughts, I'll j-just show you where it is, even if you d-d-don't wanna stay with us," she warbled, wobbling unsteadily forward. "Th-this way!"

The pains were getting worse, even when she wasn't really doing much. The platypus felt like she needed to get back to the water. Despair was mounting. I have to tell all the little ones... it's not gonna be much longer.
