Quest: Will You Help Me?
Absolute chaos seemed to erupt as the rats attacked, the gembounds moved to defend themselves while the rats moved to attack. The one who had attacked Septiezal (Rat 4) seemed surprised by the python's actions and while those claws did grab into the scales of the snake, no heavy damage was done as the rat himself was caught by the shoulder, right where the joint connected to the body. The creature hissed with pain as it attempted to lash out with its own bite and get the snake around his round body.
The rats which had thrown themselves at Kin-Kin were met with opposition as the one going for her throat (Rat 1) was caught by the head in those jaws. Panic overtook it as blood began to pour from its wounds, soaking its fur. Desperately it began to scratch and scrabble at the wolf's maw in an attempt to get her to let go before it was too late. The rat on her flank (Rat 2) latched on with its teeth and claws, digging the foul things into her body in an attempt to hold on while she bucked around.
The last two suboordinate rats that closed on Zevruu were attacking full force with the one on his back (Rat 3) clinging on with fangs and claws with the other (Rat 5) maintained its hold on his shoulder, chewing and clawing at the skin to dig in deeper and make more blow flow. The desperate shaking of the serval was enough to lessen their hold and get them to momentarily fall off but within moments they were at it again, going for the same places that they had begun to make bleed.
The rat boss continued his watch but... seemed to be distracted by something. His large head turns to see a tiny creature, no bigger than a ratling, that is avoiding the fighting. Or at least had been avoiding the fighting. The flash of movement that the rat noticed was the plant growing from the tiny one's body. The little one was hardly worth the trouble but food was food, and something so tiny would have no way of fighting back. With a hiss the rat leader lunged at Tukluk, fangs bared as he attempted to gobble him up in one go!
Uh-Oh! The Echoing Grays are attacking!
There are five rats total and they all have 20 Hit Points each, the Echoing Gray leader has 40 Hit Points. The rats' attacks will be rolled as one unit meaning if a successful is rolled then all of the rats attacks are successful and vice versa if they fail. Please state which rat you are attacking in your post. There is no posting order! After a full day has passed I will reply whether or not everyone has attacked or not. If your character wishes to flee they must roll to decide if they escape or not, a barely successful flee attempt will result in minor wounds.

Despite Tuck’s fear and the adrenaline coursing through his body, he could now feel the itching sensation that told him there was a plant growing there. He’d only recently discovered he could that, and the first time he’d done it, he’d freaked out and jumped around trying to reach for the flower so he could yank it out. He still wasn’t quite used to it, but at least it didn’t scare him anymore. What did scare him was the rat leader, who looked right at him before charging over to him!
“Grow a different plant!” he yelled at himself. “Grow a different plant!” He was hoping for something that would have a similar effect to the Sacchiferous plant he’d found in Eridanus once — one that had a very cloying scent that had numbed his limbs and given him a killer headache. He’d quickly gotten away from the tree, and had been careful to avoid them ever since. He couldn’t exactly grow an entire tree out of his body, but maybe just a small branch of said tree, or another plant with similar effects might be enough to deter the rat king.
Luckily, the leader’s attack missed him, as he dodged out of the way. He could run if he wanted, but he was determined not to look like a coward! He just prayed the plant would actually manifest…
And manifest it did! Quickly, a small branch grew out of the top of his head, and already he was feeling woozy from its effects. He hoped the scent of whatever plant this was would deter the rat leader from trying again.

His curved teeth sunk into the rodent's flesh, tearing at the rat's shoulder with each movement it gave. Now that he had his target, Septiezal tried to wrap his body around rat 4, however, this Gembound was so huge, he was not sure if it would go down as easily as his prey. The rodent's teeth caused a great deal of pain for the python, but he dare not release his grip. The young snake clung on to the rat for dear life. He thought about calling upon his element, which was something he had never done before, but now he needed it more than ever. Septiezal wanted to make this Gembound regret ever attacking him, so he focused on the the magicka coursing through his body tried to command it to perform the only spell he knew.
Searing heat scorched his mouth and snout as the spell went haywire. His own fire had turned against him. He felt so betrayed. Septiezal could bare the pain no longer and , screaming in pain, released the rat.

Thoughts...
Due to his excessive and desperate shaking, the rats fell off from their hold on his fur. He could feel blood trickling from his shoulder and back, but he ignored it as he stared at the rats that had fallen off, eyes wide. What was he to do? How does one fight? The Serval had no idea. He had never fought before. Was it anything like hunting? At least...with something like a rat? This rat was much bigger than anything else he had ever hunted...But was it that much different?
Quickly, before they could leap back, Zevruu focused on rat 3 and lunged, teeth gleaming and ready to sink his teeth into its filthy fur.

Rat 1 continues its mad scrabble to try and get away from the she-wolf but its blood is draining quickly and it continues to grow weaker and weaker, losing the will to fight as its held. Its partner (Rat 2) falls from the wolf's back and after taking a moment to regain itself launches back at Kin-Kin, aiming to grab hold of her back again. Further across the way the rat which Zevruu bites at (Rat 3) just barely manages to dodge. With its last attempt that ended in failure it seems less inclined to go in for another attack but it won't run away, its beady eyes are locked in on the feline and it doesn't wan to leave him alone nor does it want to attack while the cat is retaliating. However, with Zevruu's attention on its partner Rat 5 decides to rush in for a quick bite at the feline's legs, unlike before it won't try for a hold. It just wants to get a quick bite in while the cat is distracted.
The rat which Septiezal is attacking starts to screech wildly as the fur and skin is torn on its shoulder. Its bleeding badly and trying desperately to chew at the snakes scales to either kill it or get him to release his hold. None of it seems to be working though... Not until the rat feels heat lance its shoulder and the smell of singed flesh brings on a new pitch to its tone as it finally manages to tear away. With blood gushing from its shoulder and the pain from the burn making its leg almost useless it dances away from the snake, dark eyes glittering with hatred as it leaps again but this time it slashes with claws from its uninjured leg. Hoping to slice at the yelling snake's scales.
The rat leader, a few feet away, continued to chase after Tukluk... narrowly missing grabbing the poor primate up in his jaws! The leader was not off-put though and continued to run after the tiny primate... until he got a whiff of something strange. It was a cloying odor that made his head heart and muddled up his senses, the rat leader slowed down... His paws felt heavier and the primate seemed far away as he finally tripped over his own paws and fell face-down on the stone. It took a moment before he gathered his senses and was able to rise to his paws. After a vigorous head shake the leader savagely hisses at the primate but did not give chase, the leader knew what a sacciferous tree was and knew that Tukluk was a no go... for now... but he followed from a safe distance away, unwilling to completely give up his catch...

As Zevruu lunged, he was certain that he would bite the rat. He was close, so close--and the rat was gone. It had narrowly dodged his attack. He scowled. He had been so close! How did he let it get away? He glared at the rat, completely forgetting about the other until he felt it bite his leg. It was only a quick bite, and the rat was quick to move out of the way, but it still hurt. He yowled and jumped away from the rat. His ears were lowered. Why did he have to do this? He didn't like fighting! Why were they fighting him?
What could he do now? Doing it like he was hunting hadn't worked. He didn't have any spells that would work, unless he wanted to draw attention to himself. And he was too stubborn to leave. He didn't want to seem like a coward. 'Who am I kidding? I am a coward.' He sighed. He was a coward. But he didn't want everyone to know that. Could he do this? Could he fight? Or...was he too weak?
He closed his eyes for a moment, took a deep breath. When he opened them again, his eyes were more focused. He glared at the rats and snarled for a moment. He wasn't going to give up. He would never give up. His claws out, he waited for a moment before leaping toward rat 3, claws outstretched and aiming right toward the rat.

Oh good, the rat leader had definitely slowed down and seemed to be feeling the effects of the Sacchiferous plant growing out of Tuck’s head. Except the problem was that now Tuck was feeling its effects, too. Ohhhh… He stumbled on his paws, trying to get away from the rat leader, who was back up and stalking him from afar. Oh, this was not good. He could hardly think now. Quickly, he released the spell that was allowing the Sacchiferous plant to continue growing. He couldn’t stand the cloying odor anymore. He breathed a sigh of relief as the branch died and fell off of his head, allowing him to take deep breaths again and move faster.
Still, though, the rat leader was after him. He’d have to protect himself somehow… And then he got a brilliant idea! Actually, in hindsight, it would turn out to be a horrible idea, but it was the best he could come up with on the spot. He concentrated on his Magic again, and called forth a poison ivy plant. It sprouted from his side immediately, and he kept concentrating on it until it covered almost his whole body. He winced as he felt its roots dig deep into his skin. He’d be having some serious itching problems later, and would be covered in a rash under his fur, but right now, he needed to ensure he would stay alive.
Feeling a bit too confident, he turned to the rat leader. “Ha! Come get me now, you jerk! I’m covered in poison ivy!”

Kin-Kin kept in shaking and bucking and kicking for some time, until she finally became aware of the foul being dropping off her hindquarters like a gorged tick, its maw red with her blood. The golden she-wolf didn't even want to think about the diseases that lurked amid that foul stench... Ugh... Tossing rat 1 from her jaws with no shortage of disgust, the she-wolf quickly turned her attention on rat 2 before it could latch on again, aiming to sink her own fangs into it the way she had the other one. Although this time she was serious; she wouldn't settle with simply grabbing it by the scruff.
Her claws skittering on stone and jaws stretched wide as she growled, Kin-Kin shot towards it, wanting to taste its blood. She hadn't eaten for a while. Maybe she could taunt them with that as they clung onto their last shred of life...
The wolf's fangs glistening with saliva and her eyes blazing, the wolf's jaws snapped closed, hopefully around rat 2.
Why is this happening to me?
Sharp pain erupted through his body as the 4th rat's claws tore through his scales. With his mouth still stinging from the botched spell, Septiezal twisted and flailed wildly, trying to escape its deadly hold. Fleeing before more damage was done was the only thought slithering through his head. No. He was not going to back down from a rat. These rodents were mere food, and if he could not swallow them, then they soon will be. As blood dripped out of his wounds, the python turned his head towards his offender. The scales on his snout was scorched black and his slit eyes burned with fury. A fiery hiss erupted from the python's throat. If he was going to take down this rat, he would have to do it the old fashioned way. Septiezal lashed out again with his fangs, this time, throwing in all his strength as he went to coil his muscular body around the monstrous rodent.

Rat 5 manages to get a bite in, bloodying its fangs with the feline's blood as it dashes out again. Perhaps next time it will stay in for a hold but this time it's had enough of Zevruu's fighting back and doesn't want to push its luck. Rat 3, however, was not so lucky as its companion. The serval managed to leap right at it and the rat was not quick enough to dodge this time and it was pinned beneath the cat's claws. A shrill screech of dismay escaped its maw as it began to thrash about, attempting to scratch at the serval in an attempt to get free but in the process it only became scratched up by Zevruu's claws. Rat 5 attempts to rush in and aid its companion by leaping onto Zevruu's hindquarters and chewing at his lower back but who's to say that cat won't dodge or he won't miss?
With Kin-Kin the rat that had formerly been held in her mouth was tossed carelessly on the ground but it had had enough of the fighting and with its life barely in tact it scurried away, back into one of the hole's it crawled out of. The last rat fighting Kin-Kin lunged for the wolf but at the wrong time as the wolf's jaws closed over the fur of its back. The skin was looser there and it still gave the rat enough room to try and turn and grab at the wolf's neck with its fangs but still, the tight hold of the female was making blood ooze and skin rip as she bit down and as the rat attempted its own attack.
Rat 4 was severely regretting its decision to stick around when it had been released before. It should have turned tail and rain when it had the chance but now it was too late. As his claws lashed out to score across the snake he saw it rear back and too late it tried to high-tail it away. The python's mouth closed around its throat and his body twisted in a constricting motion, cutting of its air and squeezing it. It was all over in an instant as the rat's body went slack and it died in the python's coils.
The rat leader, still stalking the tiny primate, kept his hated-filled eyes on the creature. It was keeping a wide berth but it still wouldn't leave poor Tukluk alone. The vines that grew around the tiny creature meant nothing to the rat leader at first but when it tried to rush in and grab the marmoset and instead grabbed a mouthful of vine, it realized its mistake. Screeching with fury it backed off again, claws scratching at its maw and teeth bared with the pain and itching it now felt. Was this tiny mouthful even worth the trouble? It was beginning to think not...
The rat leader spat blood and spittle at the tiny primate but did not rush in again, it instead would wait. Hopefully the tiny creature would make a mistake.
