Whoo selfie thread

Nkosana had stopped walking and now sat down, looking around to see if anyone was nearby. Upon deciding that no one was, he began to focus on himself. He wanted to practice his magic, see if anyone was nearby. He already knew nobody was, but he only had one spell that he knew of. Maybe there were others in this room. Probably. He had seen plenty of others, after all.

So he closed his eyes and began to focus on his magic, just as Tuck had told him to do when he hatched. It had worked then. Would it work now? Only one way to find out.
Soon, Nkosana was able to feel the presence of other gems. They were all farther away, letting him know that he definitely was alone. He sighed in relief. He wanted to be alone for some time. He wanted to practice his spell multiple times. Maybe eventually he would get a new one? He wasn't sure. He didn't know how it all worked, or how he even managed to cast a spell he didn't know he had the first time.

He began to try again, after the first time wore out. He wished he would get a new spell soon. This was going to get tiring real fast. He closed his eyes and began to focus again.
Once more, the sense flooded back. So it worked. Again. Some others had moved, but nobody was near him. Alright. Now what? Maybe he should take a break. It was starting to get kind of tiring. He lay down and waited for a bit, letting himself rest.

He wasn't sure how long he would wait. Maybe he should take a nap? It couldn't hurt, surely. So he rested his head on his paws and closed his eyes.
When Nkosana woke up, he felt...slightly more refreshed, maybe. He got up and looked around. No one was around. Good. Time to try this again. Maybe he had a new spell? He didn't know how he would, but did anyone know how this all worked? Probably not.

He closed his eyes and began to focus once more. He hoped it would work, although he was getting tired of his spell.
This time, Nkosana didn't feel anything. No presence. He opened his eyes, disappointed, until he realized that a nearby rock had been cut clean through. Had...he done that? He blinked. Oh. So he did have a new spell!

He focused on one part of the rock and tried again. This time, he would watch it! He had done that, right? And if he had done it once, then surely he could do it again! He focused, this time keeping his eyes open, and tried to draw out his magic.
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. The rock didn't even move. Dejected, Nkosana looked away. Maybe he hadn't done that. Perhaps he just hadn't noticed that it was already like that? He sighed. So he just had the one spell.

...Then again, Tuck had said that it didn't work all the time. Perhaps it hadn't worked this time? He could try again, although he might just be disappointed once more. It couldn't hurt to try, could it? ...Of course it could, but he ignored that. He'd try again, and it would work. It had to.

He focused on the rock again, keeping his eyes open, and tried to draw the magic out. He was determined.
