Pepper's paws were stiff as if turning, ever so slowly, to tough stone. Her eyes were slits and with every breath the shivering of her pale, fluffy body became more frequent. She didn't have a clue why she was so suddenly cold, but mysterious things happened in this adventure of life. Pepper had traveled all the way here, to a new place, only to be greeted by pain and sickness.
Yay!
'Watch out, Peps,' muttered the voice harshly, swinging into Pepper's mind like an angry baboon.
Pepper knew she knew what she was doing, so she didn't worry over that silly voice harassing her. She was going closer to the shelter of a few pointy rocks, that's what she was doing! Pepper's small-ish body proved advantage in this case, as she squeezed herself into the little hole.
No sounds could be heard.
No sights could be seen.
No nothing.
Suddenly, though, Pepper released the stones were warming up. It was odd, but they were certainly warming up. Pepper's small paws felt the heat and her ears flicked, tail thumping with joy. It seemed accurate at this point to call her unique, since she was utterly bursting with words to say but just couldn't find a way to say them. Her body was recovering from the freeze, gently giving into humble warmth. Pepper was truly... thrilled. The stones gave her courage and strength, willing to go on to find the perfect home. Was some sort of magic involved in this process.
She was squeaking with joy and delight, and her devil voice made no attempt to stop her. It remained quiet and respectful, controlled and calm. Pepper's voice was hers again for a few delightful moments, and she sprang about in her cramped place and sang the cheeriest of songs. If anyone was to hear her, they would surely investigate further. It was impossible not to...
'Yip, yip!' squealed Pepper, showing her tongue and gritting her teeth. She had never before owned a voice and only now did she discover how unbearably great it really was. 'Oh, yes, yes, yes,' she yelped, moving away from the hot rocks. When out in the open, she released her voice was mocking her again.
'Peps got excited, I expect,' it laughed. 'Just in those awful rocks do you have proper control. Never out here!'
Pepper lowered her head. She squeaked in attempt to speak. She stared at the sky with mournful, once-happy eyes. The voice stayed silent, almost sympathetic. Pepper held her breath.
'Magic exists!' she suddenly blurted out eagerly, before losing control once again.
