ORIGIN

aero strained open a single, lilac eye and peered around her chrysalis. there were faint mosaic cracks that allowed her to peek out from behind her chrysalis curtain that grew larger everyday aero pushed against it.

feeling some energy, she cracked out her lanky limbs and played with her little homey shell, pawing at the cracks and stretching out. the tears started to vibrate and she sucked back in shock, causing her weight to push through the outer coating of her chrysalis, dropping her backwards onto the cave floor.

aero rolled over quickly, catching her paw on a shard of rock on the side of the cave. feeling a sharp pain, aero looked down at her paw to see red liquid drip from a slice in her paw. "so this must be blood..." she lapped up the coppery liquid and teetered on weak legs as she tried to find her bearings. once standing, she peered around her new world looking back at her shattered and empty cocoon that once seemed so big to her.

He hurried himself back to Tunnel I—he wished to waste little time getting through K and Orion after his brief jaunt in the crypt of omnipotent dread. Stars and fog blinded him in fear, fangs and fingers locking him in place so that he couldn't move if he wanted to. Confidence was a fickle thing difficult to come by, akin to the secret of murex. Even with hushed whispers to yourself, it could refuse, indignantly huffing and turning away. Leaving Mercurius high and dry. Y'know, the usual.

Fortunately, after he retreated from the cavernous vaults, he was free to find himself in the opalescent wonderland of Polaris. A room in which he felt warm and safe in. The generator could quit working, but there would still be light. Mosses and crystals offered the residents lanterns that lasted eternally. He could not forget the Spire yawning beyond, giving methods to carry its gift of magicka across the caves. Like it was now, it seemed.

Mercurius found himself, as always, meandering towards the sound of stone splitting. Another neonate found itself splayed upon the earth, bewildered by its new home and sudden eviction from the old. With the realization that this cub was a creature familiar to him, he ambled easily to the wrecked chrysalis. "Dear cub," he shooed some of the stray shards away as he watched her nurse the wound. Security found beneath the lights of Polaris, he cast his magicka ahead, hoping to spawn something of use—and he'd manage.

A prickly pear rose from seemingly nothing, clinging eagerly to the broken jasper. It was a shame he'd done this so many times before for a vastly different reason. There was almost a mechanical routine as he scraped at the plant's shell, exposing it's innards. Cleaned of skin, he stuck a claw into the flesh and offered it to the newborn. "A good temporary bandage to get the wound shut," he murmured, hoping their coherence was enough to accept it. Otherwise, he'd have to hold the neonate down and make them treat the wound properly.
