The pup came to a stumbling halt as the air exploded, the wall broke apart and three crystals shattered into birds made of stars and what the heck was any of this!? Bewildered, he stopped where he stood, tail tucked and body hunched, unable to connect the sudden suffocating feeling to any of this, a feeling that didn't fade even as the birds did hatch, fall and rise to argue. When it finally subsided, the young dog simply slumped down to the floor entirely.

(( very short post, ringo's just sad and confused and bewildered af ))
The poor boy didn't know what was going on. Suddenly there was a bunch of commotion around them and he was distracted by the fleeing bat-things, and when he turned back towards the rock face with its glowing wound (scooting close to Fortune in the process), there were giant... Bird... Galaxy... Things? Mori squawked and looked at Fortune, assuming she would know what all this meant or what to do or something. Heck, he was too young for this.
Gabriel at first resolved to keep its distance from these strange new beings that had emerged into the world- presumably not for the first time. Gabriel recognized in them a companionship not unlike that they'd shared with their own brothers-in-arms at birth and it would seem they had done so for a long, long time. They could speak, and it seemed as though they had unresolved affairs they wanted to solve, right then and there. The dog's furry ears twitched curiously. Even these seemingly ancient and presumably wise creatures; still emotion-driven? How curious.

Still, from their words and discussions, Gabriel could easily see that they were not beyond reasoning, and the dog thought that it may be the best option to take a gamble; jump at the chance of more knowledge, at the risk of being attacked? If things went awry, they reasoned, they could easily make a break for it. And they knew that knowledge, whether that be of the past, present or future, was far more valuable to them even than a limb.

How long had they been hidden like this? Just barely kept out of sight from the rest of the world. Why? What drove them to fight, so immiediately out of the chrysalis?

But perhaps more importantly, to it at least, what had brought into existence such strange and wondrous beasts?

The Chinese crested peeked its hairless muzzle through the crack in the wall, and the rest of its body quickly followed, slinking from shadow to shadow and always looking for tidbits. Its gaze lingered especially on the strange birdlike creatures, always looking to see if it had overstepped its boundaries.
Ignoring his brother, the flying bird continued with its attack and grabbed for the defending bird, who continued to taunt him despite not having the high ground; and as the red-eyed attacker landed and turned on the yellow-eyed other, the ice-eyed bystander awkwardly shifted and watched as its brothers squawked back and forth.

"I still say it is foolish, Alnitak," the yellow-eyed bird insisted.

"But you would," the red-eyed bird scoffed.

"Brothers!" the ice-eyed bird crowed, stomping a foot.

"Yes, Mintaka?" answered Alnilam politely; while Alnitak simultaneously answered, "Shut up, Mintaka!" Both of them had turned to finally look at their brother, who was gesturing toward the crack in the wall and the gembounds with urgency, one of which—a small canine—had actually entered their room.

"Ask them!" all of them agreed at once, and then looked at each other with disagreement for agreeing on something.

"I will ask," Alnitak declared.

"Absolutely not," Alnilam said flatly. "Your words will surely favor yourself."

While his brothers continued to go back and forth, Mintaka sat in thought for a moment. Usually it was not his preferred place to come between them, largely an indifferent being, but an idea sparked in his mind. "Do not introduce this quarrel to them," he began, and both of his brothers turned to face him swiftly. "Have them decide favor between us with tasks."

Mintaka turned to the few gembounds and raised his wings gracefully.

"We are the Three Kings of Orion. I am Mintaka, and my brothers are Alnilam and Alnitak." He introduced each of them with the wave of a wing, then continued. (In the background, Alnilam proudly rose his head at being introduced first, while Alnitak gave Mintaka a curious and upset look, even though Mintaka hadn't done it in any particular order.)

Their minds linked with Mintaka's idea, and the three of them nodded.

"We propose to you this: we each seek colored stones the color of our eyes. They can be ordinary stones, painted stones, or gemstones; whichever of us receives the most stones in three days time will be declared the winner of our dispute." A pause to let the information settle. "You may only choose one of us to turn in stones to; pledge an allegiance, and gain a reward."

Alnitak stepped forward to recruit first, eyeing down his brothers aggressively before turning to view the gembounds. "Return to me and I will reward you with Haunted Wing." As he said this, his wings shimmered with red and gained a gold rim, losing their previous appearance and turning more into ethereal bat-like wings.

Alnilam let out a single hah, stepping forward to raise and display his own unique wings, which were ethereal gold feathers, shimmering and brilliant. "Return to me and I will reward you with Eternal Wing."

Mintaka regarded his brothers before letting his own wings transform, long ethereal blue-white wispy tendrils reaching out from his back that moved in wave-like motions."Return to me and I will reward you with Spectral Wing."

Retrieve Colored Stones
Alnitak is looking for any kind of red or red-black colored stones.

Mintaka is looking for any kind of ice-blue or white colored stones.

Alnilam is looking for any kind of yellow or gold colored stones.

These can be rocks of natural color; have been colored, painted, or stained to look this color; gemstones that are close to these colors; or any other stone-like object your character feels may be worthy of turning in to its chosen bird.

A successful "other" roll in finding a 'stone' object (rock, gemstone, etc.) in separate threads will count toward your character's inventory of stones. Please keep a track of what your character finds, and feel free to bring back stones whenever you feel like turning them in! Save them up to turn in all at once, or turn them in at the end of each day; it's up to you.

If you have participated, you will receive your rewards January 4th.
Deliver your stones to the birds in Part 2 located at The Forum.

Eternal Wing

Spectral Wing

Note: Your character may only earn one of these rewards.
A smaller and similar thing had saddled right on up to the hole ahead of the frightened pup and that alone sparked a sense of bravery in the lad. His shivering slowed as the three birds took notice of them and began to speak. As they spoke the pup snuck closer and through the hole, coming to stand a small distance beside the first dog to enter. He took their words in with a mind that felt as if he were waking from a long sleep, returning to alertness.

Their words made barely any sense to the boy, but as they described colors and stones and showed off their wings all pretty and cool looking, and the pup felt as if this would be a better task than before.

The burning in his pelt was barely noticeable in light of this new task. The calmest and most well-spoken of the birds- also the only color of the three he felt confident enough with telling apart from the others, being that one to him appeared entirely white, the other so pale, it'd be hard to choose stones to match. Blue was bright and brilliant though, and the blue bird- Mintaka- spoke the nicest. He approached the blue bird a few steps, gave him a head-cocked smile then turned and headed back out the hole and into Orion proper.

His search began. It wouldn't be too hard. This whole cave seemed tinted with the color, he'd just have to make sure whatever he grabbed had the same hue, then the bird would give him wings!
