Azar blinked hopelessly, tongue lolling. He was exhausted after all his fighting to escape the egg he was trapped in, and wanted nothing more than to go to sleep. He could hear the steady dripping of water from somewhere nearby, and Azar's ears pricked as he listened. His world was an array of black and grey as he lifted his muzzle skyward, sniffing the air proudly. He didn't know where he was, or why he was there in the first place, but none of that mattered. He had a purpose and he had a life.
'Hello?' The fox cub barked, his voice high-pitched and excited, 'is anyone here?'
He didn't get a reply, but this wasn't disappointing. Azar hadn't expected anything living to be nearby, he hadn't smelled anyone. It was as if every breath he took filled him with more eagerness as he studied his surroundings, brown eyes round and inquisitive. He wanted to know everything about everything. He began howling in pure happiness, howling to the roof above him with determination. Howling with joy because he was alive; because he was Azar.
