ORIGIN - Light hearts in a heavy, mad world.

Aeroth had been on a walk for a while now. Canis was great but it lacked variety, bones on bones on bones became repetitive after a time. She she left to go explore for a bit, after sometime, finding herself back to that massive pillar of rock in the cave they all called Polaris. She hummed as she looked up to the very tip of it, smiling as the light played out on her eyes, dancing in the darkness surrounding the rest of the cave like static.

Kielo had followed the fresh scent of new flowers and tender shoots to a patch of ragged foliage peeking out from a crack in a rocky cluster. On the way she had stumbled and fallen many times, but had soon managed to pick her way over the short distance, enthralled by hunger and the happiness that making a new friend had brought. Her downy feathers trembled and wings fluttered at her back as she pulled and chomped, throwing her neck back to swallow or grinding the small leaves to mush with little teeth thoroughly unsuitable for the task.

She could hear the river, closer now, and the lights as they whirred above; letting her know that she hadn't traveled too far. With any luck, she should still be able to find her way back to her new friend. With appetite satiated, the downy little creature licked their lips and craned her neck around, feeling the vibrations through their avian paws and turning their ears until they ached. And she could hear something; something that wasn't the humming of the lights or the distant rushing of the crystal river.

A voice?

The quiet hum filled the hybrid with an unmatched excitement, and, forgetting completely about their meal, they began moving towards it, always seeping a paw against the ground to feel for anything that might trip them. They were beginning to get the hang of travelling alone!

Glow unknowingly building into a bright shine of white light from their grey down, the little one paused and sniffed the air for any sign of the stranger they knew was there somewhere.

Aeroth heard shuffling around in the dark and stood up on her hind legs. periscoping around, it sounded small, relatively weak. "Hello? Is anyone there?" She called out before deciding to go find the source of the sound, she followed along the fringes of the light, looking behind any boulders that may hide whatever it was. She smiled when she saw a light glow a little bit into the dark. "'Eya kittlie, I'm over here."

Wandering blind, Kielo raised her nose and finally caught a whiff of the other's scent; little did she know, though, that the stranger was closer than they realized. Moments later, her long neck swung around, ears pricking sharply forward as a voice reached out towards her.

The young hybrid gave an excited trill, her bedraggled but soon-to-be-regal wings fluttering. "Hello! I'm coming over," they called, picking up the pace. Now with a voice to follow, their pace was quicker but their steps were still cautious, strides long and claws dragging against the ground. Soon they stopped, certain that the stranger was near. "Are you there? I'm close, right?"

Aeroth smiled as she saw the small creature drag herself forward. "Aya hun, you're almost here just follow the light of the spire." She took a closer look at the little creature, she couldn't tell what it was but knew it was adorable. "Yeah there you go just keep going straight like that."

Notes:

The Spire is not the only thing giving off arcs of energy, although the massive strikes seem to start there and end upon the ceiling. The storm rages, swirling and shifting, looking ever more like a patch of ocean current with light streaming intermittently throughout. The storm is powerful; when it isn't attracted towards the Spire, it is striking down throughout the cave system or flashing with violent energy, enough to give some light in the darkness.

Despite the stranger's words, the Kielo kept on following the sound of their voice, even though she occasionally tripped and stumbled over rocks. Regardless, the little hybrid was encouraged by the cheerful-sounding voice and their words, but she still couldn't see. "I'm coming!" she called, glow brightening around her. "I'm s-sorry, but, I can't follow lights!"

The little one felt oblivious to the storm that swirled overhead, the ever-present hum of energy causing the little one to think it was simply the lights, and an ordinary part of cavern life. Whilst the lights had been lit when they had awoken, the little one barely remembered their soft sound, intermingling with the sound of the river. Though thinking back, there was, perhaps, something slightly different... Something felt slightly ominous, now, although they couldn't quite put their talon on what.

"Are you close, miss?"

Aeroth weaved through thee remaining boulders to the little hybrid, smiling as she saw the frail creature glowing amidst the dark. "Eya' hun. Follow me close." She slowly back-tracked, hoping the little hybrid would follow her to the spire.

The small hybrid followed the kind voice with some difficulty, her small wings beating frantically whenever she happened to trip over a rock or stray root, but she kept on track. Kielo didn't know where she was being lead, or why, but the kindness in the stranger's voice comforted her as she was drawn on. "I am, I am!" she chirruped, her voice drifting close to a birdcall, piercing and singsong. "Are we going far?"

She gasped as she tripped over another rock, the voice no longer there to lead her. She stumbled to a halt, the downy feathers along her spine quivering. Lanky legs squarely apart, small talons drove into the moss. "C-can you at least tell me where we're gonna go?"

Aeroth could see that the little creature had trouble walking. "I'm gonna take you where we can both see." She lowered her head down to the ground, inviting the little creature to climb onto her back. Smiling encouragingly.
