Envy managed to practically vomit a compendium of uses for the fog power. Hiding and scaring things are good, Desire thought. Being able to not be eaten was ideal, and perhaps the small thing did better at it than she'd thought. She listened to the list of Envy's powers wistfully, hoping that one day she could be both big and have lots of magic. Envy didn't seem that old, either. Was she...behind? Did other creatures know more by now? Something clenched in her stomach as she tried to listen. She didn't want to be less.

"I don't need to see in the dark," was all she managed to say, and it was really lame, and made her blush beneath her scales. It was amazing how much Envy had learned, but Desire fell short, and she didn't like how that felt. The only words she'd spit out were...beyond the point. Envy was...cool. Small, sure. But definitely cool.

Her head flicked up at Envy's demand for attention. Desire watched greens and purples ripple over their fur, intrigued as it went paler and ultimately white, seeming scaly, shifting, and then brown again. "Wow, Envy! That's amazing!" She looked longingly at their coat, though it was normal now, it could turn into...hers. Into scales! Desire drew closer with excitement. "Can you make it turn into other things? Other creatures? What else do you do with it? It is useful, must be, you could turn into me! Wow. Wow!" She hissed giddily, head bobbing as she overflowed with questions.

@Envy

"W-well, neither do I," stumbled Envy, fur rising as they tried not to be one-upped by the snake. Their expression shifted into one of nervous concentration. They liked to feel like they were better than others, and the fact that Desire seemed to boast a lack of need for the magic that Envy had perfected displeased them. "I-it just makes it easier to see the red stones."

Envy nodded matter-of-factly.

They seemed pleased with the snake's response to their boasting, and their chest swelled with pride. Their little fangs were soon bared in a broad grin. "Mamma and Amras said that I'm amazing at magic! Especially for being so young!" Envy proudly thought back to the first time they'd felt the prickle of magic in their fur, and felt the whole new world that had opened up to them. Of course, Amras and Aaliyah's words weren't... exactly as they told them, but Envy's point was the same. "And one day, I'm gonna be the best! No doubt about it!"

Envy couldn't help but twitch, their forepaws hopping on the ground in excitement and tail thrashing wildly. They didn't have much of an answer for their other questions, only bubbled in sheer joy. They looked down at their paws as though in awe of the wild potential. Turning into other creatures? They'd never even considered that before! was it even possible? Envy felt excitement bubbling inside of them, Desire's sheer admiration seeping into them, making them flush in every way. Was this what power felt like? What being strong was? Yes, this feeling was what they wanted. This was what they'd always wanted.

Drunk with power, the weasel sprang onto all fours with gusto, and a flourish, fangs bared in a fierce grin. "Yes!" they yelled in excitement. "I could turn into anyone if I wanted to! I'm sure of it!" Bold words, but even if they could manage it, would there be any use behind it? And then, they could never be bigger or smaller, they'd always be the same old weasel. Even when they'd 'turned into' Desire, their body remained the same. But Envy pushed aside the lingering doubts to focus on the victory they'd earned. They could work on these things later. "I could, uh... I could be any colour I wanted! I could be red, or blue, or green! I could hide and be a rock if I wanted, if something big ever comes after me... N-not that I'd hide. O-or I could... uh..." On the spot Envy flustered, hopping and bouncing, coiling.

Envy decided to try it again. Still bouncing, hardly in control of themselves, they sucked in the breaths they managed to catch and honed their magic. It took nearly more self-control than Envy could muster. Their fur flushed shades of yellow at first, crisscrossed with tendrils of violet, and then, Envy plastered themselves to the ground and tried to look like a rock.

Their bristling fur and heaving sides somewhat gave them away, but they managed to look somewhat convincing, matching the tone of the ground beneath their paws.

Drowsiness came after; their excitement was tinged by dizziness and their hide began to sorely itch. Even when their breath came back, they could hear their stomach growling, and their limbs felt like lead. They kept lying there, a rock on the cave ground, until the colour trickled back into their fur. Finally they forced themselves to their paws, a wave of nausea passing over them, forcing them to stand, swaying, until it passed. "Th-there!" they said firmly, determined not to show themselves up in front of their newly-won admirer.

"Oh," she said, listening to Envy's defense of the night vision. "You're looking for stones, too?" It made her happy to see Envy puff up and grin at every compliment. It must be a good thing, she thought, to make others feel like that.

Desire was glad to hear that Envy was not...usual. It made her feel a little calmer, a little less scared of not being good enough. Envy was the exception. The little snake would have smiled at their words if she could've. "And I'll be the biggest! You'll have the best magic and I'll be the biggest thing in the caves." She nodded, then, content with the arrangement. She didn't have to have the most kinds of magic if she could be the biggest ever.

Desire watched, a growing happiness in her chest, as Envy hopped around, yelling and chattering. Turning into anyone sounded like an incredible feat, and Desire would be happy to see it. Envy was so tiny, like Desire, that it would be terrible to be seen as that and get eaten so easily by something bigger. She cocked her head. "I'd run," she rasped. She was not about to get eaten, even if she could change color. But, alas, she couldn't. She watched on as Envy flashed yellow and purple and then - a rock! A moving rock. But a rock, a rock for sure! When Envy returned to normal color they had heaving sides and stayed on the ground for a bit longer than last time. Desire slithered over, closer, watching carefully as Envy stood, faltering. They stuttered, now, so Desire was unconvinced.

"Envy, are you okay? You look tired." She formed a semicircle around the furry creature, tongue flicking in and out to sniff, concerned. "Maybe you should rest a little." They'd gotten along so well, she would hate for something bad to happen. For pain.

@Envy

Envy nodded slowly. "Red ones!" they said, and then with another sprinkle of pride they added "I've found one already, you know!"

Envy spent a moment considering what seemed like a request from Desire, but they couldn't see themselves ever growing much bigger, something which made their fur prickle with embarrassment. "W-well... I hope I grow pretty big someday, b-but if I don't, I hope you do it for me." They paused for a time, rethinking their request. If Desire did grow that big, they knew that they'd feel bitter about it. They'd like it better if the pair of them stayed the same size or better yet, if Envy grew up bigger! "...But I hope I grow big, too."

Even as their nausea and dizziness began to fade, the tiredness remained. They shook their head, trying to clear the fog, Desire's voice breaking through. They opened their eyes, lids flickering for a moment, and then nodded. "Y-yeah, I'm fine, see? All good!" Envy said, rising onto their hindpaws. They felt their stomach beginning to growl, hunger pangs growing impossible to ignore. Without their chest puffed in pride, the little one seemed more gaunt, feeble and thin than ever, but they said nothing that would hint at any sign of weakness. "I'll rest later, when I get home. I don't need to do anything!"

"Really? I found that yellow one over there," she motioned with her head as best she could, having nothing else to do it with. The rock was important to her, very, but at the moment she was too concerned with Envy's wellbeing to worry about its distance from her.

Desire listened to quietly to Envy. She wanted to grow big - for herself, of course, but - for Envy. She would make up enough snake for the both of them. If Envy could grow that much, that would be good, too. It would make them happy, right? "Then we'll be the biggest. Ever. No one bigger."

She watched with concern as Envy shook their head and closed their eyes. They didn't look good, that was for sure. She flicked her tongue to sniff Envy again - not that she could do like Khloros and know anything more by it, but she would try. "Okay, well...then what do you want to do? We could look for more stones? Or...do you know where this tunnel goes? Do you want to explore?"

Envy followed the snake's gesture to the yellow stone, their fur puffing out as they wondered whether there were any red ones to be found. But, as they looked into the dark, eyes narrowing just slightly, the weasel thought that they really didn't feel like it right now. With their night vision spell having worn off, their eyes felt mildly strained against the dark, and they were hungry. But they felt too tired to cast something else. "I wonder if there are any red ones over there," they said aloud, making a mental note to return here later.

Envy's gaze flickered back to Desire at her response to their talk of growing bigger, and they couldn't help but grin at that. They almost believed it at that moment, and hoped desperately that Desire's prediction would come true. "For sure!" Envy agreed enthusiastically.

Desire's tongue flickered over their soft fur, and Envy recoiled, but only slightly, from the slimy sensation, grin fading. The snake's words presented Envy with a new dilemma, because of course, they were tired and they were starting to want to go home, they just didn't want to admit it. For a split second, the weasel looked guilty, but quickly covered it up with a snort and a glance away. "Do you wanna take the stone to Orion with me? I... I think I gotta go back home and look after my Mamma."

There. That sounded big and strong, right?

Desire looked back to the yellow stone for a moment, thinking. Orion wasn't that far off, and if she wanted to get more, she could always come back, right? "Okay. I'll come with you." She slithered a few feet away to retrieve the stone, pausing to speak before she wrapped her mouth around it. She looked back to Envy. "Could I see Mamma some time?" This was the second time Envy had mentioned the name - perhaps it was someone important. Despite grasped the stone in her mouth and continued on through the tunnel after her new friend spoke.

Exit Desire.
@Envy

Envy seemed excited at the prospect of Desire one day being able to meet their mamma; but such excitement was short-lived with the realization that they hadn't seen her for quite some time. But they fought down the bitter feeling that rose in their chest. They liked Desire, and they thought that Aaliyah would like her too. "Y-yes, of course- hey, wait!"

they fell short as Desire began to slither away back towards Orion, and, little legs moving frantically to catch up, they followed.
