ORIGIN

Envy was pattering their way back towards a stony wall they’d picked for their den, pleased with their newfound power, blood surging with magic. They were very nearly drunk on it, even though they hadn’t yet managed to tap into the new power that they had obtained. Now was not the time.

The little one paused in the dark, their eyes burning in the dark as with a thrill of power, they saw as clearly as if the lights were blazing. Orion wasn’t the darkest of caves, to be sure, but Envy liked to be able to see perfectly regardless. They were proud of their ability, and they liked to flaunt it as they would everything else.

Astaroth needed no light in the dark, he had grown in this darkness, and he would forever be happy in the dark. He could see perfectly. But as she needed her magick to see, she wouldn't see the dark silhouette to her left until she used her night vision. Jaws hanging open, teeth gleaming bright white in the dark, eyes glowing violet, breathing heavily as he stared straight at her. He closed his mouth and grinned then, laughing as he saw the telltale glow of magick being used. He decided if they were gonna see him, they were going to be afraid of him, he kept laughing, but it went from amusement to malice pure insanity, as he slavered and walked towards the other creature, his fangs bared in a massive grin, his lips pulled into a snarl at the top, His eyes piercing violet, illuminating the room as voices whispered and laughed and cried all around them. All pain, agony, and sadistic pleasure in the pain of the ones that screamed. He took a step towards the little creature it was such a little thing, it could never do him harm, though he could swallow the little creature in a bite if he wished. He licked his chops as he neared the little creature.

Envy had been trying to pretend, lately; to cover up their true feelings and replace it with something that would make them look strong and great; it seemed like today would be their ultimate test on this. Envy's fur bristled as they caught sight of something in the darkness, their bright eyes flashing lilac in the dark. They turned towards them then, and moved away, baring small pointed teeth until there was a few metres of distance between them.

"Idiot! Who do you think you are!?" Envy hissed, using a mask of rage to hide their fear. The whispering voices in the dark only added to that, but fed their flame of rage- their pretense, all the more.

Their gaze was fizated on those gleaming fangs, but they forced a grin which managed to look wild and almost crazed with the blocked-up emotion turning within them. As they approached, Envy stayed exactly where they were, grinning wildly, eyes flashing in the dark. Nausea was beginning to build inside of them, brought on by fear and rage and their tail flicked wildly in an instinctual urge to run- but they would be too tiny to put any real distance between them, and they were far from the tiny crack they called a home. "I'm poisonous, you know," they said. "If you don't believe me, take a sniff. I dare you."

They snapped their little teeth together.

"...Just look at me," their attitude turned pathetic with despair, and they sat back on their hind limbs and clutched at their belly, so thin that it had almost folded in on itself. "Would I be worth using as anything more than a toothpick?"

Envy paused, and their grin grew even wilder with the thrill of danger pumping through their veins.

"Or are you just an animal, too stupid to understand anything other than how to eat me? Hah!" They laughed, but it was choked, and ended in a fit of retching, even though there had been nothing left in them to vomit for a long, long time. The bitter taste of cinnabar lay heavy on their tongue, their breaths tainted by the scent of metal.

notes: Just so ya know, it's powerplaying to assume Astaroth was there for a while without being seen without the player's permission, especially since it was Envy who made the first post. Especially since it's specified in the above post that they can see in the dark, and are just using night vision to enhance it. If you want to go undetected, you'll need to roll for it in an earlier post (I.e by starting the thread yourself). ^^

Astaroth laughed at their feeble attempts at showing dominance. When he spoke his mouth didn't move, instead it would seem like the words came from all parts of the cavern in stage whispers to the dark."We all are animals. Who says you're a meal? Maybe you're just going to die and lay there rotting until you're gem and bones! This isn't life, this is hell. Why don't you just give up?" Voices kept speaking these things, horrible, jabbing things meant to break down even the strongest of wills. He kept making small steps towards the little creature, Letting her have some distance but not letting her get too far. His laughing growing louder and louder as they kept backing away. "The circle life ends sometime, why not now? The world beats you down, just let it destroy you like all the rest. Sticks and stones may break your bones but words make all your meaning."

The voices became louder, and with it Envy's rage deepened. The stranger didn't seem to want to attack, so that was one comfort at least. They tried to block out the barrage of voices, coiling themselves aggressively, baring fangs. One more retch, and they spat out a glob of red-tinted saliva onto the stony ground.

"Fine!" they yelled aggressively, gaze flickering for a means of escape. "I guess you are too stupid to to talk to me like a normal person!" the little creature's voice rose, their spine arching. They found a way; a few short feet away, was a tall crumbled wall, and at the bottom, a crack only a few inches across. To little Envy, though, it was the perfect size; nothing would ever fit in there after them.

With a last glance back at the aggravating wolf looming over them, they grinned one last time with a smug kind of smirk. Then in a shot they were sprinting towards the tiny hole, everything else fading into a blur. They reached the hole, squeezed through with only a moment's resistance, and then they were gone, pattering away on the other side.

That'd teach them.

As the weasel ran out of the area Astaroth laughed, shouting out; "You call me stupid?? I got exactly what I wanted!" He fluffed out his fur, smirking to himself as the echoes of the voices died down. Walking off on his way back to his home cavern, the cave of bones.
