It had been a rather quiet day.
Sebastian had been lazy, simply lolling around the Growth Room. He'd gotten nothing of use done, but there really wasn't much for him to do. There were no dead plants that needed burning, and he had a full stomach. So he'd found himself wandering, looking for things he hadn't seen before.
Like seemingly always, he found himself at the Eyes. After a moment, he decided to drink, so he could relax for the rest of the day without having to return. However, his tongue had barely touched the water when the ground began to shake. He dug in his claws, leaping away from the water, and looked around frantically.
Thankfully, it wasn't long before the ground stilled beneath his claws. he backed up, looking around. Before he could try and run for Rift, a large, impossible-seeming stag appeared. Recognizing the stag as no mere Gembound, although he didn't know who he was, the puma was quick to back away out of its way. Seeing Rift, he slipped over to his side, trying to stay out of the way.

Hera
Hera's head moved spastically, twitching this way and that, as she tried to take in everything at once. Her talons dug into the gator's scales, struggling to keep her balance on the moving reptile.
She turned to the canine, cringing at the wolf's question. She was a bird, wasn't she? Were birds thought to be untrsutworthy?
Her attention was drawn back to the stag as it began to speak again. He didn't look terribly happy, ears falling back and his smile gone. What was going on? She was so confused.
Mar 14 2018, 11:54 PM
His eyes snapped to the other feline at the Eyes and gestured his head aside, as if urging the cat away. Was it deaf? The stag's impatience was mounting, but a crawling ice had entered the back of his mind. His ear flicked irritably at the sensation but he could not rid of it. Finally, he gave in, dipping his head sharply and snorting air toward the grass. "What!" he hissed to his linked partner, his head snapping at an angle to stare hotly into the distance of Eridanus—toward the far reaches, where Pisces lay.
"You could show It some appreciation," came Tenzin's calm voice, like a wellspring of of cool waters. "It did bring you back. You should have let them free a long time ago, instead of—"
Astraea's mouth parted where he stood, and he let out a low grunt. "Do not speak of It to me!" His eyes were searing red, burning invisible holes through the plantlife of Eridanus. "It is not the fate we serve."
Slowly, heat filled in the spaces where the coldness had been. When Astraea did not hear anything from his partner, he quested for him, but did not receive an answer. It took some effort, but he was able to reconnect to the phoenix. The stag stomped his hoof, unaware of the children at the moment.
"Tenzin," he prompted, the attempt softer than before. They were connected, but his partner was not answering him. What was he doing? Pouting!? "Tenzin!" No response. The stag turned fully toward Pisces now, his head lifting and rearing backward before he bellowed loudly, "TENZIN!" Fungi erupted through his skin, blood flowing freely down his legs.
"Astraea," answered the phoenix quietly. Because he had been ordered to.
"We do serve the same fate...?" It was a statement more than a question, but it had been asked. It shouldn't have been. It shouldn't have needed to be. His ears cupped forward. "We are partners. We were made together. To be partners. To do this together. To serve the same fate eternally. Do we still...?" He could no longer feel Tenzin's protective chill embracing him, and thus, he knew the answer; but Astraea did not want to hear it.
"We do not." Tenzin confirmed solemnly, and their link shattered like silent ice.
For the first time in ten thousand years, they were alone.
Astraea lurched forward at the sudden loss of weight from his other half, nearly collapsing onto his forelegs in the grass. The sounds of Eridanus came rushing into him, as if he had been nourished in hushed silence for ten thousand years; as if he had been spoiled by the constant background noise of Tenzin, encouraging him, supporting him, loving him; where before he thought this was an annoyance, he immediately missed it; and now everything else was too loud.
"WHAT." A different voice barged into his head, engulfing him, crushing him beneath its weight.
"Not right n—"
And then it was gone, leaving him with the feeling that he had failed somehow, again.
The stag's bloody legs wobbled and he collapsed into the grass. The water in the Eyes spilled over like tears, doing what he would not; and Astraea sighed, defeated.
"Do you still look after Skahan?" he asked of them, and the ground beneath them rumbled.
The earth moved and shifted behind the Eyes, the cave wall yawning as the soil rolled out of it like a tongue, the dirt and rock glowing as an object neared the surface; it grew and grew, brighter and larger, before finally a large serpent-like skull-shaped stone of something was presented to them. It was, indeed, a mix of the colors they were searching for. It shimmered and it glowed, dancing with light. The wall behind it and earth below it returned to their normal shape, grass filling in for dirt and ferns growing out of the most uprooted areas.
Astraea pressed himself to stand, walking over to the large stone and standing angled on a mound of left-over debris.
"This is your architect," he announced. "Skahan."
Good luck getting it back to Orion, he thought cheekily, struggling to keep his composure.

Dragon stared at the stag as it reared, bellowed, collapsed. As blood ran from its legs. He still did not react, much, aware of the hatchling balanced precariously on his snout, aware that he might send it flying if he moved a great deal. He ignored, too, its talons digging into his flesh--it was merely keeping his balance. Any small wounds it inflicted would heal.
Why is it injured? Why is the stag falling? --Ahh... Dragon's thoughts were silenced as the cave wall gave in. He assumed at once that Astraea had strained himself in drawing it forth; he was unaware of the stag's mental link. Two crawling steps forward, and he peered up, awed, hungry for this knowledge, this power. His dark eyes trailed slowly over the shimmering gem--a gem far too large to carry away.
It will not fit. And even if it could, we cannot move it. ...But then, they did not ask us to move it. Only to find it... I think.
For an instant, Dragon considered hauling himself all the way back to Orion to report what they had found. But then he remembered--the birds could speak into their minds. They had made it so. Perhaps it was for this very purpose...? Perhaps, if he tried hard enough, they would hear him in return?
Dragon took a breath--then realized this was foolish. He didn't need to bellow aloud, only in his mind.
And so he did.
BIRDS. WE HAVE FOUND THE STONE. IT IS IN THE CAVE OF PLANTS, OF JUNGLE. AND IT IS TOO LARGE.
If there was no response, he would turn and make his way back to Orion, dragging his injured leg the whole way. If there was--well. He would sit tight, and see.
Had he known what was going through Astraea's mind, his thoughts would have been much, much different.

Rift, crouching a little ways away from the rest of the gembounds, felt Sebastian's fur brush his side as he padding up. He twitched his left ear to acknowledge his presence, but kept his eyes focused on what was going on. He had no idea what was wrong with the stag, with its rearing, kneeling, and bleeding. He wanted so bad to run up and help him, but confusing and awe kept him in place.
"I-I don't know, they're looking for a stone or something." And then, when the ground heaved, Rift cried with surprise and scrambled back. His eyes widened with shock when he saw the huge rock towering over the gembounds.
What was he supposed to do? Why had he gotten involved? He didn't care about the kings or some rock. He just wanted to protect the forest! He shivered, wondering what this could mean and curious about how the gembounds were going to move it.
Once it had settled down, he slowly began to slink out of the trees and towards the stag, eyeing the wound on his leg. This is what he did, what he was good at. "D-do you need help? I could help stop the bleeding."

what rui saw approaching the eyes did nothing to soothe him. he had never seen any of these characters in his life. oh--except those two cats, the ones he'd fought off the giant, nasty creature with. these animals looked a lot cleaner, but... wow, there was sure a lot, huh.
the sheer amount of them and their collective size overwhelmed him, and he stood frozen for a moment even as one of the tallest ones spoke to him. what? why? no one liked eridanus. what did they have to do here? he was afraid they'd just smash him or something if he didn't comply.
"uh," muttered rui, finally, moments after the deer shooed him off. "okay ... ?" he shuffled in near the crowd. of course, he was never a very social gembound, but he had to know what they were doing now, and no way was he going to be able to spy on this many gembounds who already knew where he was and what he looked like. there was an unsureness in his voice; clearly, the jungle cat was very confused.
he did not even make it to where he'd have liked to have been before something else happened, and his entire body stiffened and whipped to the direction of the deer's bellowing. it was not directed at him, at least, it seemed. ugh! what was wrong with these gembounds!
'they're looking for a stone or something,' rui heard the young puma from before say, quietly, but his cat's ears could pick up on it just well enough. honestly, he wished they'd all just leave, but he couldn't quite fight them all off.
and then the stag was bleeding and on his knees, this was so weird, he was so uncomfortable, the eyes were overflowing now, rui the ocelot was too shocked and confused to even speak or visibly react.
the ground shivered again. "aaah!" he yelped, with a chirp in his voice, and leaped into the air, startled in such a catlike fashion.
the rumbling went on and he sort of... adjusted to it, enough to comprehend the giant thing coming out of the ground, they were just going to destroy his home huh! huh. wow. what the fuck was that.
"what the fuck," he muttered, and he thought it was under his breath but honestly it just sort of fell out of his mouth, so if it was a little louder than that he wouldn't have even noticed.
the puma from before approached the stag and rui watched them move, but he was still stuck on the giant skull-looking-rock, mentally.
"hey what the fuck," he chirped one more time, this one purposely a little louder, though notably more distressed, shock and confusion and a mild amount of terror seeping into his normally low and playfully controlled voice. with it, he looked up at the gembounds who had appeared just moments ago and started all this nonsense. he had never seen anything like this before, and he was desperate for some kind of explanation.

It took longer to catch up to Astrea than they'd anticipated, and by the time they reached it, they ground to a halt as they heard the stag's voice crying out to... Tenzin? that bird that had nearly drowned them. Envy looked up and around, flinching as they anticipated a rush of water or air pouring out of the undergrowth- they quickly found the nearest tree root and began to scramble up it, small claws grappling at the gnarled bark. From a raised, but still slightly low, perch, they felt the ground shivering and let out a squeak of protest, clinging to their spot on the tree root.
From there they saw the rock wall part and an enormous... something... emerging from the cavern wall.
The weasel's jaw dropped. They scuttled back over to the now-lowered Astrea, and pattered up to the enormous gem. There was no way they'd ever be able to carry that back. Or any of them, for that matter- and that eased their bitterness, a little bit. "You're joking. That used to be alive? And what's more, that's just its gem?" their voice shook with bitter jealousy. Why couldn't they have been one of those!?
They paused to analyse the situation, rising up as tall as they could up against the enormous and colourful stone. They sniffed, resting their paws against their chest. Vaguely, they were aware of the others behind them, speaking, but right now, the stone was more important.

Sebastian looked from Rift, to the many other Gembounds gathered. He had no idea what was going on, and hoped Rift could provide some answers. But, unfortunately, it seemed the tawny big cat new little more than he did, only being able to say that they were searching for something.
Before Sebastian could speak again, the ground began to heave. He scrambled back, before bristling his fur and growling in fright. Why hadn't he just stayed in the den today?
He trailed Rift forward, not wanting to leave his brother alone with that thing. The stag seemed to be bleeding, and he tilted his head. There was little he could do, although perhaps he could try to cauterize it?
Without thinking, he slunk up to the giant stone, careful not to touch it, before stretching forward to sniff it.

Hera
The hatchling chirped quietly as she watched the stag, wondering what was going on. What had she hatched into? The stag's head suddenly snapped off to the side, and she flinched. Could she do that? Evidentally she could, she discovered, as she jerked her head to the side. He seemed to be speaking to nothing, and then suddenly he was yelling at the top of his lungs, beginning to bleed. She made a frightened sound, and huddled low against Dragon.
The stag collapsed, and then the world began to shake. She made several frightened chirps, and stumbled atop the reptilian. Something began to emerge from the ground, and she turned her head side to side.
It was... rather pretty, she had to admit. Glowing and many colors. She wanted it. But it was much too large. Perhaps she could break off a piece?
When the bird felt the reptile begin to move under her, she fluttered down off of it, hopping up to the stag, looking up at him.

The responses were varied, but the most crippling thing to him right now was not the fungi that burned in his skin or the energy he had expelled; it was the loss of his link and partner. He had waited here in Eridanus, giving up his duties for the day, to do this task at the will of his partner. And now his Pisces was simply absent from him.
"No," he denied their help quickly and began to move away from Skahan's gem. "It will heal. Thank you." The mutterings of others were vague in his ears, but the weasel had come closer, and he glanced over his shoulder to view it. "As I mentioned by the trench, he was perhaps the largest of us, but is smaller each time he is awakened." Astraea regarded the size comparison of the least weasel Gembound compared to Skahan's gem. "As an architect, Skahan exerts a lot of magical energy to do what is needed, whatever is needed of him. And so, the source of his magic is large enough to compensate. But his body suffers for it, and he dies; and he is never reborn the same each time, if we need him again. That is what we have noticed."
The stag turned, lifting a hoof to move away, but stopping short when he noticed the eaglet beneath him.
"My child," he said softly. He felt his legs tremble again at the effort to hold his weight on only three of them. He steadied himself, placing the other down carefully around Hera, and bent his head down to sniff her. Fine. Healthy. What a thing to witness after hatching. "May this be a testament to the power you can achieve," Astraea whispered to her, motioning his head back toward the architect's gem. He winked at her, but she would never grow into an architect of course. Still, he hoped it would give her the will to be big and strong!

In Orion, Alnitak stirred within the Kings' body. It heard Dragon's call. Only those who pledged to the birds would hear the individual voices of Alnitak , Alnilam , and Mintaka . All characters can hear the voice of the Three Kings .
"WHAT," Alnitak snapped back to Dragon. "WHAT KIND OF STONE IS IT?"
"From what we have been told, the creature was large enough to create most of the tunnels—" Mintaka tried to explain, but Alnitak cut him off, "I ASKED WHAT KIND OF STONE IT WAS, NOT WHAT KIND OF CREATURE IT WAS."
"He is saying it would needed to have a large stone, were you expecting it to have small stones like ours?" Alnilam sassed. "We paint the sky, we don't bore into the earth."
"MAKE IT A GROUP EFFORT." Alnitak suggested to Dragon.
"You don't actually have to yell at them," Mintaka explained slowly. Was it the idea that they were far away just... confusing Alnitak? Or because Dragon yelled first?
"We will come to you. Thank you." The Kings' spoke to all present now, shifting from their roost in Orion to travel to Dragon's heard location in Eridanus.
The Three Kings of Orion will arrive in 1 Round.
The Three Kings of Orion will arrive in 1 Round.
Astraea's face soured at the idea of seeing the Kings' and he waited for a moment before stepping around Hera, quietly making his way past the rest of the group.
"Good luck," he commented lightly. His steps were slightly uneven and his pace was slow, but he began to set off into the depths of Eridanus, wanting to leave before those caged birds showed up.
Astraea is attempting to exit and will leave by next around unless stopped.
