Ritz needed to find Rift. She wanted to apologize completely. She wanted his acceptance. She didn't want loose ends.

"R-i-i-i-f-f-f-f-t!!!!" She called, drawing out his name in her high pitched voice. She didn't even know if he would be here, but this place was full of plants. He loved them, so she figured he'd be around here somewhere. Stopping, her paws spread out, her tail swishing back and forth, the little fennec fox panted. She didn't know how else to find him.

She could start a fire, but he'd hate her for killing all the plants. That would just make things worse. Sitting down and sighing, Ritonai decided to rest a bit. Not nap, just stop moving so much.

Rift was out from his home, wandering through Eridanus and collecting herbs and flowers that he thought might be useful or pretty for his home. He could have grown them himself, of course, but there was something calming about wandering through the forest and collecting nature. Besides, naturally grown things seemed more beautiful and, well, natural. He focused himself and sent out his magic, scouring the land for the purple buds of comfrey. He had learened that, by chewing it into a pulp, it soothed sore muscles. It could come in handy if he ever hurt himself or got in trouble. He eventually found it not far away and bounded over to collect it. He carefully nipped off the buds, uttering a quick thank you to the plant. He carefully stripped off some moss from the trunk of a nearby tree and set the buds inside, carrying it like a pouch.

He was about to turn and go back home when he heard a voice calling his name. He froze. The voice sounded familiar, but he couldn't place a face or name. Curious, he picked up his comfrey, and the lavender and bracken he had collected earlier, and set off to find the voice.

Unable to use his nose to scent, because of the herbs in his mouth, Rift didn't realize who it was until he came around a tree and came face to face with Ritonai. He froze, his head working as he remembered her, before he turned tail and fled, not even thinking about the repercussions. Why was she here? She couldn't be here! He couldn't face her after what he had done!

He went and hid behind a tree, breathing heavily.

Looking around, Ritz heard someone approach. Standing she saw a bit of tail. Rift's tail! She bounded behind the tree to greet the cougar.

"Rift, why are you hiding silly?" She smiled, then shuffled her dainty paws.

"I... I wanted to find you. I need to apologize. I was really mean. And. And I don-" Ritz was cut off by her own tears. Oh no, she was getting emotional. Ritz bit her lip and composed herself.

"Sorry. I just. I really need to say sorry. I was really bitchy." She told Rift, angry at herself even more now for being stupid.

When Ritonai appeared from around the corner, Rift nearly jumped out of his skin. He had hoped she wasn't going to follow him, but it seemed his hopes were false. As he stood there, small yellow forsythia flowers bloomed across his skin. Annoyed that this was starting to happen often, he hoped that she didn't understand the language of flowers. Then again, not many seemed did. He took a deep breath and was about to apologize when she did so first.

He was shocked. He thought that he was in the wrong, that he was the one that had instigated her. He thought it was all his fault. But Nai was taking some of the blame. He lowered his head, feeling a burden lift off of his shoulders as he spoke his own words, while small hyacinth buds bloomed alongside the yellow. "And I'm sorry for attacking you. It was unfair and unjust and I should have controlled my temper."

He felt the air between them clear as they both got their apologies out in the open. He looked up, feeling a small dash of hope. "Can we start over?"

Watching with interest as yellow flowers appeared along his back, Ritonai was curious. She was about to ask about the purple and yellow flowers that now lived on his back, but he said something first.

"It's okay. I hurt your friends, and even though I didn't mean to, I shouldn't have done it." Ritz replied, shuffling her paws once more. Happy to accept a new start, the little Fennec nodded her head enthusiastically.

"I'd love that!

Rift's face lit up brightly as she accepted his offer. He shook his pelt out, dislodging the flower that were growing there, scattering purple and yellow all over the grass. He looked at Nai and took a deep breath. "Hello, my name's Rift! I grow plants!" He placed a paw forward and focused his magic into the earth. A number of bright yellow roses bloomed from the grass at Nai's feet. He pointed at them with his nose. "Those are for you, so our friendship can be happy and full of joy."

He nosed the flowers affectionately. He loved doing this. He loved making others happy. And these were the happy flowers. He hoped that she would like them.

Ritz nodded.

"I'm Ritonai, but you can call be Nai or Ritz!" She said, just as enthusiastically. Sniffing the flowers, Ritz sneezed cutely.

"They smell really good! I think we're gonna be great friends Rift!" Nai exclaimed, taking another sniff. She sneezed again. They really did smell good, but they made her sneeze.

Rift smiled brightly. "It's very nice to meet you, Ritonai!" He then noticed that she was sneezing and quickly sent magic towards the vines hanging in the trees. The shivered before softly coming down and carefully uprooting the flowers, keeping the bulb intact. Rift willed the vines to carry the flowers back to his home and so the vines disappeared, handing the flowers from one to the other until the flowers were lost from sight.

He stared off after them for a moment, wistful, before he turned back to Nai. "Sorry about that, I didn't know they would make you sneeze. I just sent them back to me home so I can care for them later."

Watching with wonder as Rift made the vines take the flowers away, she was astonished at the power he held.

"It's okay. That was seriously cool though!" She exclaimed. She started hopping up and down, her tail almost like a bushy snake.

"So, where is your home? It's gotta be cool!"

Rift shook his head enthusiastically. "Yeah, I think it is! We should go there, I'll show your around! I think you'll like it!" He turned in the direction of his home, giving a small bounce of excitement. "It's this way!"

He leaped off in the direction of his tree, but keeping his pace slower so Ritonai could keep up. As he ran, small sprouts peeked out of the ground where his feet fell and he laughed at the life that he spread throughout the forest. He was so happy here.
