Huny had traveled rather far.

The little hummingbird fluttered through the air, moving in a blur. Her head twitched from side to side, seeking out any flowers that looked like they'd feed her. She'd quickly discovered that she could only eat from inside of flowers that her beak would fit into, and she had to drink something inside.

Unfortunately, those flowers seemed to be few and far between. Most of what she'd seen of Origin had little in the way of flowers, only fungus and crystals to be seen. But, apparently, her luck was beginning to change.

With a few more flutters of her wings, the little bird found herself in a new cave. And this one, she discovered, was exactly what she'd been looking for. It was lush with trees, as far as she could see. And there were flowers! Flowers with lots and lots of nectar for her to drink.

After satiating her hunger and thirst, she began to flutter around. Her wings were still rather weak, and she was tired. Her gaze landed on a beautifully shaped Y-branch of a tree, and she fluttered up, landing on it before taking off a handful of times. This would do!

Huny took off from the branch, scanning the area. She landed a few times, picking up miniscule twigs before fluttering back up. Oh, this was going to take ages!

A little blue and black avian with a fluffy ivory belly hopped around on the mossy floor of the cave. Frankly, she was bored and wanted to explore. She really loved this room full of vegetation. There were some beautiful flowers here that inspired her thoughts. Sharp eyes behind a ruby mask gazed around, spotting a white blossom of some kind. It was extraordinarily unique with a strange shape. She hopped closer to have a better look.

Something fluttered into her vision, looking very busy as they hovered between flowers high above where Gypsy could reach. The tiny avian became distracted, and started to watch them instead. She felt jealous. She still didn’t know how to fly properly and she wondered if she would ever be able to use her wings properly. Spreading them open, she looked at her own critically. They were so small! Would they even carry her weight?

With a sigh, she looked up to the flying creature again. At first, she thought they had disappeared, but realised they had simply moved to a curiously shaped tree branch. They flew down, picked up some miniscule twigs and soared back up. Gypsy’s head tilted questioningly. What on earth were they doing? The curiosity became too much. She had to find out.

She hopped towards the bottom of the tree, elegant tail swinging delicately. Almost straining her neck, she looked up at the stranger.

“Hello? What are you doing over there?”

Unaware of her audience, the little bird fluttered back down, eying a handful of twigs critically. Finally, she seemed to determine them to be good enough, and hopped forward, taking the beak-sized twigs in her tiny talons. Then, with a flutter of her wings, she was airborn, returning to the y-shaped fork in the tree branch. She added the twigs to the pile, before flittering back, staring at the nest.

Fluttering forward, she began to arrange the twigs, creating the very foundation of her nest. This was going to take her ages, she could tell, as her nest wasn't even close enough to being large enough for proper use. But it was a start.

Huny startled, hearing a fellow Gembound's voice, and looked down from her perch, seeing a rather elegant bird staring up at her. She cocked her head from side to side, eying the Gembound's tail, before responding, "I am building my nest."

"I'm speaking..."
'I'm thinking...'

"I am building my nest,” the other bird replied as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Gypsy shook her head. “What is a… nest?”

She had never heard of such a thing before.

She jumped up and down at the base of the tree, wishing she could get up there herself and take a closer look. Branches obscured her vision of this so-called "nest" that the other Gembound was creating. She spread her wings and tried to beat them super fast, copying what she had seen other creatures with wings do. Maybe she would be able to take off and soar if she did that?

Nope. Not even an inch.

She stopped flapping with great sadness, realising it was no use. Her wings were already tired. Perhaps flying was just never meant to be for her, as much as she hated to admit it.

The Hummingbird looked down, seeing the rather odd-looking bird. What was it? It had a funny looking thing on its nose, sticking out like leaves of a flower, and a long, vibrant looking tail. Did she look like that? Huny wondered curiously; she'd yet to see her own reflection, so she didn't know.

A nest? How did the little bird not know what a nest was? Huny felt as though it were ingrained in her DNA, as though she would know what a nest was, and how to make one, even if she were deaf and dumb and stupid. It took her a moment, though, to figure out how to explain. "A nest is a place that a bird makes, where they sleep and spend their time when they aren't wandering around the caves." There, she supposed, that was a good enough explanation.

Her head tilted from side to side as she watched the little bird flutter, attempting to jump into the air. Could it not fly? "Can you climb up?" she asked. The bark looked like one could get their talons and beak into it, after all.

Oh… It kind of hit her, as if a distant dream, that she had actually known what it was. How she could have known it, Gypsy had no clue. Perhaps there was something more in her mind than she even realised.

"Can you climb up?"

“Climb up?”

Gypsy stared at the bark in front of her. It was a rough, scratchy surface. Maybe if she dug her beak and talons into it, she could make her way slowly up. It would take a while though, considering how high up the other bird was. Besides, what if she fell? She remembered the fall she had when she first hatched. That had hurt, and it had only been a fifth of this height.

Still… trying was better than admitting her fears. She nodded in response and started to climb up very slowly, making sure her grip was perfect each time.

After a loooong time, Gypsy finally made it up, exhausted but happy to have succeeded. She sat with her legs folded on the branch, eyes shining like a winner behind her ruby mask.

“I did it!” She chirped as she celebrated. Flapping her wings wildly, she almost dislodged some of the twigs that the other Gembound had already painstakingly gathered.

The hummingbird twittered, turning her head this way and that as she watched the ground-bound little bird looking at her tree. She found herself looking down at the tree as well, flittering back to test the bark under her talons. Yes, the bark was in small enough pieces that even her tiny talons could wrap around it. So, surely the other bird could do the same?

Besides, even if the other bird fell, it probably wouldn't hurt it. After all, the other bird was small-enough that it wouldn't be hurt by an impact with the ground. Thankfully, the little bird seemed to nod, as though in agreement, before beginning to make her way up very, very, slowly.

'Hooo, boy, this is going to take a while.' Huny observed, head tilting from side to side several times. Finally, she would spread her wings, and flutter to the ground, picking up little twigs once more and fly back up.

As she waited for the brightly-colored bird to reach the branch, she repeated this several times, not wanting to waste any time. When it seemed the little bird was nearing her branch, she stayed atop it, rearranging the twigs.

She looked up as the little bird finally managed to get on the branch, eyes shining brightly. "Congratulations!" However, the little bird began to flutter its wings, almost dislodging some of her beloved twigs. "Hey! Watch it!" she gasped, fluttering forward to push them back into place.

"Hey! Watch it!" The other bird hurriedly pushed the twigs back in place. Gypsy immediately felt a bit ashamed and carefully folded her wings, ensuring that she didn’t touch anything else.

“S-Sorry! I didn’t meant to!” She had gotten too excited. She hopped around where the twigs were gathered, head tilting this way and that as she carefully examined it.

“This is the nest you’re making?” She asked, interested. “You’re just piling up the sticks, right? Mind if I help?” It didn’t even occur to her that her inability to fly meant she wouldn’t be able to gather the materials easily.

Huny was quick to replace the twigs, painstakingly putting them back into place. However, hearing the Wren apologize, she felt fairly guilty. The bird hadn't meant to, she was certain of that. And, from the way the bird was sitting now, she didn't intend on doing it again.

"S'alright," she muttered around the twigs in her beak, before putting them carefully back into place. Despite not looking at her, she paid close attention as the bird hopped around her nest, not wanting the twigs to be scattered again.

"It is," she nodded, flittering back to examine her own nest. The hummingbird had to admit, it looked pretty good! It still had pretty far to go, though. However, the other bird's question made her hesitate. After all, how could the flightless bird help?

"Alright! I'll bring up the twigs, if you can put them into place. And if you help me, I'll help you make your own." she nodded.

"I'm speaking..."

Gypsy was relieved when the bird easily forgave her.

"Alright! I'll bring up the twigs, if you can put them into place. And if you help me, I'll help you make your own."

At first, Gypsy opened her beak to argue that she could help with the collection of twigs too, but then realised what the problem was. Oh… Yeah, she couldn’t fly.

She sighed and nodded, feeling a little deflated. “I wish I knew how to fly so I could help you more.” Still, she was excited about the prospect of building her own nest and helping this bird create this one. “Okay, how should I place the twigs? Is there a way to go about it?”

If she was going to help, Gypsy wanted to get it done perfectly. May as well learn the proper techniques from the expert, she thought.

“What’s your name by the way? I’m Gypsy.”
