Close to the shores of a sparkling blue river, a small green chrysalis laid half buried in the dirt. Inside, a little housecat was nearing the end of her journey inside of the now cramped space. Instead, a new journey would begin for her, one where she could make her own choices, her own path, where she would meet other Gembounds of every shape and size.
Now, it was time for her to leave. It was time for her to create a name for herself. Opening up her crystal blue eyes, the cat struck out at the walls of the chrysalis, trying to escape. Either the small cat was very strong, or the chrysalis was very weak because it broke easily within her first few hits. Shaking her fur and climbing out of the messy pile, the small cat sat on the shore scanning her surroundings.
This place was pretty. Different colored lights made her surroundings different and nice to look at. The sound of rushing water filled her ears, and the cat shied away from the steep slope that led to the river. "I don't wanna drown this early in life." The cat spoke to herself, not realizing that she was speaking, not thinking.

More life. More young ones. Reseda watched the cat hatch from its shell. There was so much going on in this cave. It was so loud here, so filled with power and life and magic. Much more then the room of bones had ever felt. She wasn't sure if this was a good thing or not. It was at least a good place to gain allies and practice the art of speaking. Befriending the naive, innocent young ones was the requisite to her plans.
She stepped forward and moved so that she was approaching the cat in a direction that it could see. She heard its first words and almost laughed aloud. What a ridiculous thing to say, especially before anything else. If the cat didn't want to drown, it would stay away from the river. Simple. She sometimes couldn't believe the stupidity of the gems in the caves. But she had to work alongside them. That was the only way. Hopefully, this one would at least give her some amusement.

The newly hatched Gembound watched as a giant something, no. That was rude. A giant Komodo Dragon lizard came towards her. She watched with careful eyes as it came closer until it was right next to the gemling. The cat swished her tail carelessly, until the Komodo Dragon spoke.
"How did you know I thought something about drowning?" The cat asked, not even bothering to introduce herself. Wait a minute. Who was she? What was the cat's name? She made a quick decsion, speaking before actually thinking. "I'm Aurora, by the way."
That would suffice for now. It was a rather pretty name, actually. The little siamese-tabby would keep it. Tail still swishing, Aurora heard a soft scraping. She looked over her shoulder, spying a spike at the end of her tail. It was green, like the spike on the yey of the Komodo before her. That was cool.

Reseda tilted her head in mock confusion.
She nodded at the cat's name.

Reseda's tail twitched with amusement. Watching gems blunder over themselves was one of the things that she truly did enjoy seeing. And this cat did it perfectly. She looked over the cat before giving her a kind smile.
She felt a slip in the conversation, she could feel the edge approaching. What would they talk about now? She wasn't quite sure. She had never been the forefront in a conversation before. Other gems just kind of...talked to her and she responded in kind. But now the cat had handed the lead to her. Probably because she was older, smarter, and much bigger. Or maybe the cat had nothing to say. Either way, Reseda needed to keep talking to her. Gembounds liked to talk, she had discovered.

And everyone made them, or so she was told. Aurora had yet to find anything about, and the only knowledge she had was what she hatched with, and what she was told by Reseda. The girl's thoughts wandered off, about the future and what it held for her.
But her thoughts were soon interrupted but the Komodo Dragon. She spoke well? Either this lady was a butt-kisser or she was honest. Or maybe she was just nice. That was the least likely of the three though.
"Really!? I could barely tell I was speaking well!" Aurora said, her voice sarcastic. "No shit sherlock. I can speak well. What of it?"

Reseda was a little taken aback at the cat's sudden snap back. She stared at it blankly, not really sure how to respond. Most gems responded nicely to her compliments. Did it not understand? Her tail swished a little bit as she calmed herself and focused on her response.
She smiled kindly at the cat, nothing but warmth in her gaze. Amusement giggled at her heart. This would certainly be an amusing challenge.

”You should be apologetic. I'm not some stupid cat.” Aurora snapped, her voice angry with hints of amusement. This was hilarious. This Komodo must be stupid to not be able to tell sarcasm from being actually offended. Oh yeah, milk that butt-kissing. This was great.

Reseda burst out laughing. In many ways, it was a genuine laugh. She was amused by the amusement in the cat's voice. She was amused by its proclamation that it was, in fact, not stupid. And she was amused by its feigned anger. It did not have practice. It did not know how to speak after all. It was young and she was old. And it was, at the very least, not as stupid as she thought.
She smiled at the cat.
The cat was lingering too long on her simple words. A game. A naive, childish game. From a childish creature. It just hatched, after all, but Reseda did not understand this. When she hatched, she was not childish. She was cold and calculating and demanding. In her first minutes of life, she had seen a future told and had watched a mad gem attack her. She did not have room for childish games. It was strange to meet one that did.
