The creature inside the chrysalis paused her thumping when she heard a muffled voice from the other side of the wall. “I’ll help!” They said, and she decided to wait a moment incase help indeed came. The pounding quickly began on the other side, wherever that was. What was it like outside of this stuffy place? The creature was extremely curious to find out. Cracks began to run their spidery threads across the wall. Then, with the mighty sound of glass breaking, the chrysalis finally shattered. Gleaming green pieces rained down around the creature, as she let out a low mewl and looked around. The child didn’t show much emotion, regarding everything with a detached coldness. Strangely enough, she was surrounded by round objects. It occurred to her that perhaps she had also been stuck inside one of those. Were there others like her too, still sleeping within them? She noticed various creatures of all shapes and sizes and colours dashing around in a major scramble to grab those coloured objects. She didn’t understand what was happening, and her curiosity reached a new high. Demonic eyes turned and settled on the one who had helped her escape the prison. They were furry with paws, just like her. She wondered where he had come from. She shifted her weight, long tail of vibrant red and purple shifting to curl around her dark body. Two bony red stumps protruded from her back, their ends sharp like spears. The child did not speak, not just yet. Instead, she bowed her head slightly as if in a gesture of thanks to the one who had freed her. Then she simply sat like a silent ghost amongst the remnants of her egg, watching the wolf with a piercing stare. |
