Ayr's exploration of Polaris continued. The spire and all its lively crackling had been enough to sate her curiosity for a moment, long enough for her to take a rest. Now, however, she awoke, and she was looking around once more with her cloven hooves clicking rhythmically against the cave floor. First, she looked down the entrance into tunnel N. Seeing the moss covering the walls and the floor had her chest filling with excitement, but for the time being, she refrained from going down it. She could explore that later, after she finished seeing what other sights Polaris had for her. Next, she came by the crystal river. She stared down at the rushing water for a moment, down the steep incline, for a moment, watching her own reflection as it stared back. Then, a silver fish broke through the water, flailing briefly in the air, before colliding back down in the water. How strange! How wonderful. Ayr wasn't sure if she had ever seen a fish before, but the thought of something living happily in the water similarly made Ayr happy, if a bit sad that she couldn't see it for herself. The river, of course, did not answer. Ayr wasn't entirely disappointed. Perhaps it was just hard to hear under there, or perhaps it had already left, startled that it had seen a white foal staring down at it. The unicorn settled herself down by the shores of the river on her belly, staring down. |
