Oh, it was freezing!

Of course that was the first thing that the pup would be aware of. Frost had formed on her Chrysalis, little droplets freezing into icicles on her metallic, grey prison.

And she didn't like it!

The pup grumbled, attempting to unfurl. Already, she was beginning to tremble, sides rattling against the Chrysalis that confined her.

Oh, she wanted out!

A few, careful twists of the pups' body, only to fail spectacularly. Her, rather large, head, slammed painfully into the hard Chrysalis, and the cold nipped at her tail, ears, and paws.

Eirian didn't know where they were. They had started walking after hatching and now ended up in some tunnel that was very cold. This place was a lot different from where they had hatched. They shivered, looking around at all the ice. It was during this that they noticed the chrysalis.

It was gray, from what they could tell, and covered in frost. They sat down next to it and stared at it, their head tilted. Was it new? Was it going to hatch soon, like they had not long ago? They nosed it a little, only to quickly rear back at the cold on their nose. That had been a bad idea.

For now, they decided to sit and wait. It seemed like whoever was inside was trying to come out - they could have sworn they heard something crashing inside there.

Her head hurt!

And the tip of her tail was numb, and the tips of her ears. She wanted out!

The pup squirmed, flailing as best as she could in the tight confinement. She was small, but the Chrysalis was small as well, and weakened by the frost that chewed through it.

So the Chrysalis didn't so much break as it did shatter, dumping the oddly proportioned, tiny puppy on the ground. She opened bulging eyes, and looked around, seeing a massive something in front of her.

Getting to her feet, she began to shiver, her fur wet and chilled. Bouncing from paw to paw, she looked up at the big thing, before beginning to sneeze violently as the liquid inside her nose made it itch.

Eirian didn't have to wait long before the chrysalis shattered, leaving a tiny creature on the ground. They looked down at her for a moment. Even though they had also hatched recently, they were still taller.

They didn't say anything, instead observing the pup as she got to her feet, shivering. It was cold in here, that was for sure. Why was it so cold? Why was there so much ice? Their train of thought was interrupted as the other sneezed. They looked down at her. Finally, after a moment where no one said anything, they spoke. "Hi?"

The pup shivered, dancing from paw to paw to try and restore circulation in her numb limbs. She looked up, seeing a massive... thing in front of her.

Her tongue flicked out to lick her nose, wetting the dry skin. The pup squinted up at the larger pup, and she asked "Why are you so big?" without caring to return its greeting.

Eirian continued to watch as the pup shivered, bouncing from paw to paw. They were startled at the little thing's response to their greeting, and blinked. They didn't pause to even think of something to say, instead saying what came to mind. "Why are you so small?" Even if they had waited to come up with something to say, they didn't know what they would say. They didn't know why they were big. They just were.

The pup snorted, shaking her head as she waited for a response. It didn't take long before the big thing replied, this time with a question. Although she felt as though irritation should boil in her stomach, the mohawk-ed pup instead grinned.

"Good answer! I like you. I'm Babette." she snorted. The chihuahua had a feeling they would have fun together.

Eirian blinked at the pup's - Babette - response to their own response. They had not been expecting that in the slightest. Then again, they didn't know what they were expecting, if anything. "O..kay?" A pause. Should they say their name? What even was their name? After a moment, they just opened their mouth and hoped for the best. "Eirian."

She shivered - it was cold! 'Why is it so cold?!' But she would never admit it, proud little rat she was, and so paid attention to what Eirian was saying. The bigger pup seemed rather confused, and she wondered why.

"Eirian?" she echoed the name, testing it on her tongue. "I like it! We'll be good friends I think, you and I!" Her tail wagged.

After a moment, however, she looked around. "Where are we? And is everywhere this cold?"

Eirian flicked an ear. Friends? That sounded...nice, they supposed. "Okay," they murmured. Something told them they didn't really get a choice with this.

At Babette's question, they blinked. Where were they? They didn't know. They'd only been in here and...the colorful place they hatched. They didn't remember it being so cold there, though. They began to look around.

"Some tunnel, I guess. And I've only been in one other place. It wasn't cold there. Maybe it's just cold in here?" They looked around again. They looked at the ice. "It's probably really cold because of that ice."
